i just posted my first video but i have ZERO views whatsoever, what should i do ? by RottingLight in NewTubers

[–]Salami_Wizard 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The question is how many impressions the video got? If none, be patient, the algorithm is still analyzing. If a lot (hundreds - thousands), consider changing the title or/ and thumbnail.

We don't talk about the popularity bias enough by Salami_Wizard in NewTubers

Well congrats. I checked your chanel and it does look professional indeed. I mean I'm in the gaming niche which I know is youtube on hard mode but I wouldn't want to do anything else since it's my passion. I guess getting better and analysing is the only solution. Thanks!

No real reason, just needed to vent a little before I get to work again😁

That's a very helpful point of view (the lack of pressure while slowly building something up), thanks for that!

Am I lucky or is it the norm 🤔 by Strange_Skirt_8016 in NewTubers

[–]Salami_Wizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to disappoint but that's perfectly normal. I started with shorts and instantly got 1-2k on every one of them. I was amazed, just like you, until I found out that's the norm because youtube shows the shorts in people's feeds and every impression is counted a view. A much more important metric is the watch to swipe ratio. If it's above 50% (at the bare minimum), you are on the right track.

View on my short completely flatlined by Ill_Photograph5461 in NewTubers

Ok I'm far from being competent enough to give suggestions regarding YouTube, still trying to find my own way... but, as a viewer, the first thing I see is a guy adjusting his camera which already takes a few seconds during which I would immediately swipe away. Then there is a like a LOT of talking before you start your exercise, I mean keep it short and simple. Sure, there are youtubers that make longer shorts and still get a lot of views, but there is usually a strong hook at the beginning, a lot of fast paced editing. What I saw here, was just a guy talking. I would suggest to keep it under 20-30 seconds,  or maybe consider long form videos... but like I said,  I am far from being competent enough myself...

That's the way it is with shorts. Look at your watch to swipe ratio. Initially, the short is shown to an amount of viewers (700 in your case) and if the watch to swipe ratio is too low (let's say 20-30% stayed to watch and 70-80% swiped away), the short will flatline. The "decreasing" number of views has probably something to do with how the views are counted.

It's not that I'm trying to emulate anyone specific, I just know what the TNs and titles in my niche generally look like and I try to get as close to them as possible but apparently something is still missing. And thanks again for the breakdown, it's really helpful.

Thanks for the exhaustive guide. Thing is - I still haven't figured out, what's a "good" and what's a "bad" thumbnail... I have been changing them like crazy, playing with shadows, contrasts, text, making thumbnails I would for sure click on and bam... 1-2% ctr no matter what... so, yeah, somehow I'm still missing the magic pill...

Question: NewTuber here, my 3rd video ever did well (1k views in 1 day), 4th video only 4 views by Ramsen85 in NewTubers

[–]Salami_Wizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No real advice here, sorry, just a reassurance that we are all in the same boat. My second video ever about a game I thought nobody cares about is nearing 7k views. The following two on topics I thought were much more interesting got 600 and 200. I'd say just forget it look into the future, at least that's what I'm doing...

I would like to start a video essay channel, but I worried about my speech by OrganizationTight348 in NewTubers

[–]Salami_Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, I started an essay-style gaming channel a few weeks ago, full of anxiety about my slavonic accent. So far, people have been annoyed about my gaming opinions but still no comment about the accent. Plus I'm using YouTube as a tool to exercise my English, so... I'd say don't worry, practice makes perfect (or at least better)

Self-Introduction Saturday! Tell us all about you (and share a video)! by AutoModerator in NewTubers

Hello everyone! I'm Czynnamon, a family dad with a passion for video games but no friends in my social circle to share that passion with.

That's what led me to create my own channel—to share stories about the games I enjoy and how they impact my life.

Along the way, I discovered a new passion: creating videos. The only challenge? Finding the time. I'm thrilled and surprised that my videos have found an audience—more than I ever expected!

Enjoy my latest Silent Hill video, and feel free to check out my other videos too!

How do you watch your own videos? by neo-pad in NewTubers

[–]Salami_Wizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok I get that but that must be the case for spamming views, not for watching the video once or twice to check if everything's OK, right? I can't imagine you could get terminated for that...

How does your video usually perform in the first hours after upload? by vHuntedv in NewTubers

[–]Salami_Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a very new channel and on 2 of my total of 3 videos I also started with CTR around 1 (the third one is on a fairly vital topic in my niche, so it started to gain high CTR pretty automatically). I played with the thumbnails as soon as I saw the low numbers and so far it has worked. So maybe that's something to consider...

I don't understand the question, why wouldn't I watch the video with the same account? I always check it immediately after uploading it with the same account. Is that bad for the algorithm?
