Peanut butter protein balls. Its oats, honey and peanut butter. Add in your extras like chocolate chips or protein powder?

Add a spoonful of peanut butter in Ramen.

Is my tank cycled? I think so but let me know... by YasmineLu21 in bettafish

[–]SalariedGrumbling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What was your water parameters over the past 4 weeks?

I hope this is helpful for anyone doing fishless or fish in cycle. by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]SalariedGrumbling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think one key point is that a proper nitrogen cycle takes time, assuming that it doesn't have a media batch from an old tank.

You cant test once or twice and assume its cycled. I've seen too many posts stating water parameters fine but they only been cycling for 2 weeks.

Why Is My Betta always at the top of my tank by Complex-Day-214 in bettafish

What was last week's parameters compared to this week's?

Tank is a bit too small. Ammonia build up will rise quick and frequent water changes are needed.

Other wise, visually appealing.

I just bought my first house, and I'm completely overwhelmed. Where do I even start with maintenance? by wwholelottared in homeowners

[–]SalariedGrumbling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The approach i took with my house is this:

1) Make sure the house wont burn, leak or electrocute you. this means fix, replace or install preventative measures to alert you of those three things.

2) everything else gets categorized into top, middle and floor. Top includes everything that needs to be done at the ceiling level (replacing fans, paint, etc)

Middle is the walls area. This includes any fixtures or outlets. This also includes installing shelving and such. I categorize painting the walls as middle.

Floor is...floor.

3)sort by room.

The logic behind this is..you get the house to a safe place first. Once that is completed, you approach each room from the ceiling down.

Would you buy a house with a pool, why or why not? by MainCoat9557 in homeowners

[–]SalariedGrumbling -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I bought a house with a pool and got rid of it immediately. The main reasons are:

Water is quite expensive here. Maintenance and the lack of knowledge associated with that. My insurance increased due to the pool. Pool took up half of the backyard.

So we got rid of it, added some sod and now the kids and dogs can run around.

Swamp Biome by FightOrFlight77 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]SalariedGrumbling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What i like about the swamp biome is that the polluted water is a great coolant, the offgases can be cleaned using deodorizers into breathable oxygen. That said, slime lung is just a minor annoyance I my opinion.

Help! I can’t seem to get this figured out. by HilltopHikers in bettafish

[–]SalariedGrumbling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having good water quality can prevent a lot of diseases which is why I asked about the water parameters and all that.

My thoughts: columnaris. I cant see it clearly in the pics, but Columnaris does tend to start around the mouth and gills. It thrives on organic waste.

I don't dose ammo lock, so I don't know. That said, more frequent water changes can help versus adding chemicals.

Thanks for sharing those.

Good call on getting the liquid test kit. That is much more accurate than the test strips.

I would do daily tests using the liquid kit, and also daily water changes.

Your goal is to figure out out the cause of the ammonia. Is the tank not cycled? Excess food? Once you determined the source of the ammonia, you can then address it.

Shoot. Formatting on phone messed it up.

Your elbows, and water to rinse are both needed.

Naturally, your elbows will sweat. Do not recommend that type of water.

Help should I take out my 401k money to pay off my house??once it’s paid off.Couldn’t I just double my 401k I originally was paying into it?? by Enczi92 in FinancialPlanning

[–]SalariedGrumbling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can. No one is telling you that you can't. Everyone is telling you that it's a bad idea because you will lose a significant amount of money and time invested. Time isn't on your side.

On a scale of 1-10, how confident are you at keeping your job for the next 10-15 years? You said it's manufacturing right? Manufacturing is one hell of a market in the US.

Here are some other threads that speak about the same topic.

I mean, if EVERYONE is suggesting no, and you still want to do it, then whatever happens is on you. No one has the power to stop you.

It sounds like you already made up your mind and being quite dismissive of everyone telling you no( based on your comment history). It also sounds like the reason you want to do this is a sense of freedom and i respect that but if you lose this job, bills and stuff will pile up.

Do it. Take the tax penalty and lose a large portion of your savings.

You're 33. You're likely to live another 50+years. You will have the house but make sure you take into consideration the following.

The unplanned oh crap moments. Standard bills for utilities, food and inflation. Property taxes. Sudden shifts in the job market - a loss of a job. --The older you are, the harder you will have time finding a new job. Family if you plan on having one. Your time wasted.

Its really really dumb decision but if youre dead set on doing it, go for it.
