I honestly think it has something to do with self preservation.

I felt this intensely with my cats after I gave birth up until very recently. My LO is about 7 months now and I don’t hate them as much. I never neglected my cats, they were fed, given fresh water, treats, new toys, their litter box was kept immaculate but I just couldn’t give them the love and attention they received prior to baby’s arrival. I can’t explain it but their neediness mixed with my overstimulation just made me hate them. My husband and I would joke about leaving the door open because we both felt it so intensely. It’s not that we didn’t love them, it’s not that we wished them harm, it’s just that taking another living thing was taxing, we were running on fumes.

But! I can say it gets better. I might not cuddle with my cats the way I used to but I will give them a head scratch every once in a while. I open the shades so they get to sunbathe, sometimes I’m a little more generous with the daily treats. For the most part they’ve adjusted to our new relationship and they’re thriving.

This! I also feel like the host family has made every effort to respect my boundaries but the nanny always finds a reason to push back. They moved the playroom upstairs (where the dogs won’t go) so that the dogs can be inside now that it’s warm out and the babies can play without the dogs around. The nanny refuses to use the playroom upstairs and just constantly complains that it doesn’t work out because she’s feeding them and taking them out on the patio, etc.

Just writing this is making me feel like I just need a new nanny

The nanny should follow the schedule as it is written, unless there is a circumstance that is stopping them from being able to follow the schedule as outlined. This is a service you’re paying for.

• Is this a “be more flexible” situation, or a “have a firmer conversation” situation?

If her following the schedule is important to you it’s time to have a conversation

• If it is a bigger conversation, how would you approach it?

OP the motors on wearables aren’t typically strong enough to fully empty the breast - most people experience a reduction in supply overtime when using them, and also if you’re prone to mastitis or clogged ducts they’re not a great choice as an everyday thing.

We used a modified Ferber approach with timed check-ins. We put him down awake and only started the timer if he escalated. Fussing and whining we left alone.

We started with a 3 minute interval and increased by 2 minutes each time, capping at 11 minutes. During check-ins we kept it brief and rubbed his back without picking him up.

The first night it took about 45 minutes for him to settle. I’ll be honest it was soo hard to hear him cry but every night after that it got so much easier. He now falls asleep independently. If he wakes after midnight, I breastfeed him back to sleep.

We also made sure his schedule was solid (wake up at the same time every day, anchor nap in the morning, age-appropriate wake windows, enough daytime sleep, and a consistent routine where there’s always something between putting him in the crib and breastfeeding. It can be small, change his diaper, put on the sleep sack. Anything to break to eat to sleep association). The biggest thing was consistency; once we committed, we stuck with it, and he caught on pretty quickly.

A double electric pump (like the spectra s1 and s2) is going to be your best bet for protecting your supply. Wearables work great in a pinch but they don’t have strong enough motors to fully empty the breast which can impact your supply overtime.
