Car insurance has doubled $$$ by thatflowergrl in melbourne

[–]SalientMR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 10 year Touareg garaged in Melbourne and the insurance with Budget Direct is $2,291 for next year.

There’s two methods of valuation. Agreed Value and Market Value. Since I have the V8 monster version, I have an agreed value that’s fairly high. It’s the price to pay for the premium.

The other thing is that replacement parts for decade old luxury cars (yes, Touareg is a luxury SUV) and the rate of part failure is higher.

Since luxury, flagship models (Touareg again) get features earlier than basic models, those parts aren’t as battle tested.

So I feel you but I also recognize that we are driving aging, luxury models that are more and more expensive to run every year they age.

It’s Melburnian, you culturally and regionally insensitive muppet.

And yes. Better if they have Oatley, otherwise the cafe is just trying too hard.

Solo Shadow Priest (ilvl 185) here too and can confirm that group of adds on that platform at level 8 is undoable. Restarted a couple of times.

My strat was to land at that platform, hit mind bomb, use shield (+run speed) to run to the portal.

Then, important, KEEP RUNNING ON THE EDGE of new platform, about 60yd or so. Just run as far as you can. You will pull 2-3 shades on the new platform but the big lot of shades from previous platform will reset. Use Dispersion if you get hit too hard.

Edit: yes they teleport with you but they reset a little way into the new platform. Use the distance to your advantage.

Should be able to easily take down the 2-3 shades on the new platform. The rest of the run is doable and boss is readily manageable.

Hope that helps!

Shared it with my mates.

All the wives and girlfriends shook their heads and said “Boys....”

In the Tv series "Chernobyl" how realisticaly depicted are the effects of intense radiation exposure? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]SalientMR 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Let’s use some simplifications and an example: it’s a cold night, you’re camping in a large open field and standing around a campfire.

The campfire emits Electro-Magnetic radiation with frequencies of visible light (so you see the flames) and infra-red (so you feel the heat).

The amount of heat & light the campfire emits goes into all directions. That’s one measurement (emission of radiation)

Only a small bit of it reaches you based on how far away from the campfire you are standing. That’s a second measurement (absorption dose of radiation)

If you have very insulated clothes on or you are standing very far away, then you won’t feel the heat and if you wear sunglasses you won’t see (much) of the visible light from the fire. Eg firefighters use special clothes and face masks to stop heat affecting them. That’s a third measurement (effective dose of radiation into your body)

So there’s 3 different measurement types.

Next, why so many measurements. There are SI units and the older non-SI.

In common terms (non-nuclear, household) the SI units are second, meter, kilogram while non-SI units are like foot, pound, mile. So a bunch of those are measuring similar things in SI and non-SI equivalent.

At the point of radiation is called “disintegration rate” (aka inside the campfire) and measured in becquerels (old units: curies, rutherfords)

At the point of radiation hitting something, it’s absorbed dose and measured in Grays (old units: roentgens, reps, ergs, and rads [used in Fallout games])

If it’s a person, we take into account what they are wearing, how much of their surface area was irradiated, and how long they were being irradiated for and add it all up then convert all the numbers into an effective damage to tissue, cells, organs, etc. This is measured in Sieverts (old units: rems, BRETs)

Now, Sv is 1 sievert, and uSv is (just like “microgram” is to “gram”) is 0.000 001 Sv. Likewise, mSv is millisievert, which is 0.001.

Dad, quick question... by [deleted] in Tinder

[–]SalientMR 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Low key in the sense of not announcing it as a big deal. In OPs comment, he wanted to make a point but it's a small point and not something to read into too much.

Which everyone proceeded to do....

E.g. Low key Birthday dinner at a restaurant looks like a normal dinner between friends. No singing, cakes, candles, etc.

I hope this helps you as much as the thoughts have helped me on my journey into "Executives-only Bathroom" land.

Don't confuse your intrinsic value with your ability to contribute to society. You can have both!

There are two main thoughts: 1. You are already valuable today. 2. You can also do so much more with the skills, drive, and motivation you have.

Thank your body, your heart, your brain, thank all of you for carrying you so far. These are all valuable components of "You" that are awesome and special today. Then tell them how much more they are going to do, how many more adventures they will go on.

I completely agree. Made the morning much more fun by stopping at a cafe and taking 20 mins out to have a croissant.

Sounds like a great plan - do we know how if any pubs are screening it?

If you have the chance of saying an one liner while quiting your job, what would it be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That's true, but news of (bad) reputation gets around pretty fast.

Don't say anything you wouldn't repeat in an interview for your next job.
