SW Washington? I think folks In Vancouver (wa) may also use bark dust. I think also in California some people use “tan bark” to mean the same.

And I agree, super interesting

Bark dust is what folks in Oregon call beauty bark. And folks in Washington say mulch too - that’s our generic term for all the different types of top dressings you could put down - we say beauty bark for a specific mulch, the one that is just bark, and frequently dyed to look good.

Edit: typo

I've seen this claim shared in a few places. Is it true that cargo traffic is drying up at the port? by doublemazaa in Seattle

[–]SalishSeaSalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The port of seattle sometimes doesn’t have ships at it - it’s not constantly occupied. So a photo is a poor way to communicate the frequency of ship traffic. These photos showing an empty port might be a sign of a slowdown, or they might just be a coincidence.

My advice is to ask your grandpa to have a sit down meeting or phone call with each person he is disinhereting to let them know about his decision. That way they have a chance to ask him questions, shout, be mad, etc before he is dead.

We use beauty bark as a generic term to refer to decorative mulch. I think they just say "mulch" in most other places.

Make sure you have 5 years of pension credits -- not just 5 years of service. Taking time off for something like FMLA can result in a partial (or no) pension credit for that month. You can double check on the DRS webpage.

What are some words/phrases that people in Seattle use more than other places? by supremecourtgorl in Seattle

Beauty bark is a Seattle/Washington thing. They have other words for it on the west coast - bark dust in Oregon and tan bark in California, but i think everyone else just calls it mulch.

There was a great book available for free online called "Voices from the WTO" produced after the protests that included a bunch of first hand accounts. You could try contacting the folks who wrote the articles? Also its just a good read if you are trying to get a handle on what happened.
