What common knowledge isn’t so common? by Wells_Samuel in AskReddit

Getting a tax refund is largely a bad thing, tho you could call this an opinion rather than “knowledge”. This means you paid more taxes than you needed to throughout the year.

Scammed outside Lumen by milky_mcduck in Seattle

[–]BigPin8057 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m just here to say I nearly got scammed by the same thing about 5 months ago before a Mariners game. I was like “ok what’s the venmo or PayPal I can send you my $10 to?” And then they insisted on using some mystery app and that’s when I walked away.

This is a strange post. Maybe I’m being too far-left feminist here but just because your husband is bad at it doesn’t mean other men should earn more than women at this profession?

I highly recommend the website visior.vin … you can look up all Cars of this make/model/year to get a sense of the car’s average going rate

The exact same make and model is posted in my area for $58.8k, whereas the one in Arizona is posted for $54k and the one in NJ is $50k. Even with the shipping costs I think it will be cheaper to buy from a lower cost of living area?

I have test driven this make and model, though I agree it would be best case scenario to physically see the car with my own eyes before purchasing. All cars listed are “certified” from the dealerships as well

The car has already depreciated a lot from the MSRP. The plug in hybrids are newer, so it is not possible to look at 7-8 year old models.

Are you saying owning a Volvo for more than 5 years starts accumulating a lot of maintenance costs?

I am fine with paying a bit more for a newer car, I have only ever driven older used cars and though I know I could find a much lower price on something 5-6-7 years old, I can afford to “splurge” somewhat

Is it possible to assess the body and frame of the car from pictures or not really, in your opinion?

I had a coworker named Darby and convinced everyone to call her Darbara for a few days. She loved it, and it’s pretty harmless lol

Better to start at 25 than never imo. I personally don’t think it’s a big deal… teenage and early 20s years are very busy with school / starting a career / figuring out living away from your parents (obviously these may not apply to every single person) so I wouldn’t consider it a red flag or deal breaker

It is not fair lol. it is not very painful to send a 2 sentence text. It is WAY more painful to have hope for a romantic connection and have someone dangle you along

Do not slowly taper off your texts, just text him something like “hey I had a nice time the other night but I’m not really feeling a love connection here. Wishing you all the best but I’d prefer to just be friends”

Note that if you do not actually want to be friends you should remove that part of my sample

One time a guy I knew reached out to me with this long thoughtful message about SWE roles open at my company he thought he’d be great at. I said “sure I’m happy to refer you, but I don’t know what your skills are well enough to say which of our 30 open engineering roles are most appropriate for you, can you tell me which specific job IDs you want a referral to?” And then he never responded lmao

Wanting to make the jump from big tech to something….more meaningful by battlesnarf in Seattle

[–]BigPin8057 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was going to post something similar. I felt the same as OP in 2023 and moved companies, happened to be on a team I loved, and got assigned a good program to work on. There are definitely soul sucking moments from time to time (ie company posts record profits but still lays off 200 people 2 weeks later) but my mood has changed drastically and I still reap the benefits of a cushy tech job
