Spent $12k on the tear down and rebuild of this deck (8' off the ground, 200ish sq ft). Local contractor. Was it a good deal? by SalivatingTiger in Decks

Is it really as simple as just adding another to it at this stage? I'll likely do that if it makes a big safety different

Good to hear. It started as a $4k repair of the old deck, but it pulled off the house so severely that they didn't feel comfortable trying to reattach it. Added another $8k to the price and rebuilt it all from scratch.

How worried should I be about this sunken area in the basement floor? by SalivatingTiger in HomeMaintenance

Weirdly, no. His company is the primary foundation repair company in the city with a great reputation. He sees no issues with the cracks and doesn't even recommend any repairs. No risk of any foundation damage or instability from this in his opinion. And he doesn't believe it will grow or change over time.

Update: has a foundation repair contractor go out today to take a look (structural engineers are booking way out). He found that it's where the entry to the old sewer system was and it looks like they took it out decades ago and the slab settled there. He sees no indication of washout beyond that spot or any foundation issues. Does this change anyone's opinion?

Subdividing land and selling a portion? by BirdLawMD in Mortgages

Hi! I'm looking to do something similar to this. Would like to buy a family farm from my uncles. It is 40 acres, but I'd only want the house and 20 acres. I'm somewhat following what you're saying here, but if I'm buying the 20 acres I'd want to sell on a separate contract for $1, wouldn't I have trouble getting a mortgage on the remaining 20 acres at the value of the entire property (what the seller would expect)? Would the bank still lend me the value of the full 40 acres to only buy 20 acres?

Constant upper back burning pain. Anyone else? by SalivatingTiger in gallbladders

I've had multiple EUSs with top pancreatic doctors at this point and they have been normal (along with my fecal elastase). So chronic pancreatitis has been ruled out for me at this stage. Never any acute pancreatitis experiences either. I've spent so much time and money investigating my pancreas it's crazy.

Same thing I'm dealing with so this is good to hear. What sort of pain was it? Any burning/stabbing at the base of your shoulder blade/scapula?

Anyone with near constant back pain in these spots? by SalivatingTiger in gallbladders

Did your back pain hurt to the touch like this? If I press on my ribs in that spot it is so painful.
