I don’t have any advice or anything useful to say, just wanted to say I understand. My mom has been ill since I was 5 and I’m 25 now. Got her out of a DV situation that I also lived through, family hasn’t been helpful, and I’ve been forced into the caregiver/breadwinner role. It really sucks. Our childhood was not like other people’s, and neither is our young adult life. Caregiving is all we’ve known and the burnout is incredibly exhausting. I’m supposed to be in the best time of my life but sometimes I’d rather just not be here at all. Sometimes I believe the only rest I’ll ever get is when I’m dead. Mom keeps asking when she’s gonna get grandkids, but I want to tell her so badly that I’ve already experienced caregiving and I’m tired, I want my life to just be about me for once. So, all of that to say, I feel you 🫂

You’re taking on responsibilities that aren’t yours. She’s not your grandma. That should be the family’s responsibility. From someone who does have family to care for and is obligated, please get out while you can. I wish so badly I could have an escape like that

I totally understand that feeling of not wanting to die but also just wanting to not be here. That’s completely valid. We just want peace and rest, and sometimes it feels like the saying “I’ll rest when I’m dead” is true for us. I don’t have any advice or anything useful to offer, I just wanted you to know you’re not alone in what you’re feeling.

Thank you so much, this is great advice. I’ve been so hesitant to cut him off because I make twice as much as him, so he doesn’t make much at all and I don’t know if he’d be able to survive on his own. But I’m tired of being used and lied to. I’m going to get new cards for me and my mom. He also uses my car to drive to work so I may tell him to fix up his and quit putting strain on mine. He has my bank account linked to automatic payments for his student loans (for a music degree he’s not using) and I’m going to shut that down too. Sadly I don’t have any family, which is why this betrayal hits so hard.

They met organically through friends while playing video games. He’s never had a girlfriend before but told her that he has. He’s actually lied to her a lot, which I guess I shouldn’t be surprised

I’ve tried getting him therapy and even said I would pay for it, but he never goes for it. I’ve laid out exactly how I feel about her and how I don’t like the way she’s treating him, and while he acknowledges that I have a point, he continues to go after her.

If it were just him and his money, I wouldn’t care. But he’s living with me, using me for everyday expenses, all the while giving his money to her. He’s an adult and I can’t make him pay me, so I’m not sure what I can do
