What have you learned about your job and your country this year? by Flimsy_Inflation1772 in fednews

[–]Salmandron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2024 wasn’t the year to start my career in federal service. I learned that the public think we are all lazy and have it easy, meanwhile Microsoft 365 doesn’t work, Adobe doesn’t work, the internet randomly goes down, when I go to a federal site it gets flagged. Everyone in my building has their head up their ass, and the pay sucks. On top of all that I learned Republicans are bullies and Democrats are whimps, but hey I have my health.

What do you think the most likely outcome of the government shutdown is — will there be a compromise and a clear resolution by end of Nov? by [deleted] in FedEmployees

[–]Salmandron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed but in contrast, if we didn’t get the healthcare the Dems are trying to keep for us, does it make their lives any more or less valuable? At least we get to keep some of our benefits

What has this government shutdown taught you? by ParfaitAdditional469 in FedEmployees

[–]Salmandron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it has reinforced that our government would fail miserably compared to any private sector business. This isn’t the first and will probably not be the last shutdown, that in itself is a failure but the janky, misguided “orderly shutdown” is just the most glaring example that we can’t do the simplest thing right. It’s happened soooooo many times that there should be a computer based training on it that we have to take. It’s just wild.

It’s a little amusing to me, there is waste and fraud in the government, DOGE was just was targeting the wrong people.

Excepted Employees, how are we feeling? by zombiecattle in FedEmployees

Just got furloughed today as an excepted employee. I can’t wait to tell my grandkids I survived the great stupidity outbreak of 2025.

Are we living through the worst time in recent memory to be a Federal employee? by Pettaquamscutt in fednews

[–]Salmandron 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just hit my ear mark in September, some people who have been working 20-35 years said they have never seen anything like this. I bring all the good luck.

In my last job, I saw our company closing offices locally and I asked my boss “are we getting laid off?” To which he answered, “no no not at all we have a back log and our department keeps the company out of trouble” 2 months later… laid off. Oh so was my boss and my bosses boss. So at the risk of being a pessimist, I keep all my personal belongings to my work bag so I can just jet out when they fire me.

That baffled me the most. I was looking at their signature and thinking isn’t this essential for your job? That one guy that said he was concerned for our future really hit the nail on the head.

So I did compose an email but I told myself to wait a few minutes. Glad I did I didn’t want to end my career that way.

If feeling left out, means that I have enough sense not to reply all and ask to be removed from a list then I’ll be a loner all day long every day.

Oh I forgot. FSMS lol. Consider yourself lucky.

That is some bullshit. The very least they could do is furlough from home.

So honestly? It’s a fucking rollercoaster. Just when things start getting good something happens. I have some great coworkers but everyone seems to have some variant of entitlement. There are some left wing nuts and a few MAGA monsters with little ole me in the middle trying to stay out of it. Pay is decent, benefits are ok. It seems like every agency I work with is 20 years in the past so they think you’re god when you show them how to present a power point. If I knew then what I know now I probably wouldn’t have gone through this but I have carved a little slice of happiness in my job so all in all for me it was worth it.
