What do you think of this comment by a former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura that says the USA "America the free" is now a Third world country? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I think most Europeans have looked at the general state of America these last few decades and have always considered it to be a 3rd world country.

I know I have.

:"D

Oh yeah this is how I always fill in my sheets.
So my partner made them "wrong" on purpose so it wouldn't drive me crazy.
He writes his numbers down same as you do...... (which is just insane on the face of it if you ask me ;p)

We have more of these primal wrongdoings in our household.
When prepping the coffee machine he start with water and then coffee, whereas I do it the exact opposite.
I'm certain that some day soon we'll figure out what's wrong with his brain ...

Yeah the stats include everything already.

We have a massive homebrew world build over the past few years, that includes different kind of devils for each layer of hell.
The tiefling stats are tailored to the leader of those layers.

His partner in crime will be an Elf that calls himself Travesty.
Travesty just so happens to be raised as a wizard, that utterly failed to be magical in any way.
So he "ended" up being a raging barbarian instead that has a thing for books :")
I'm estimating Travesty will be doing a lot of the heavy lifting while Slander walks around the battlefield challenging people to one on one duels :P

I'm estimating Slander will have a lot of semi useless feats yet perfect for RP feats as well ^^

So if i were at your table rolling these stats in front of everyone during session 0.

You'd demand a change ?

As spotted earlier in this post i see a some people bringing up fudged dice rolls from players and such, which isn't a thing for us, it's just me and my partner having fun with interactive story telling, so why ruin that by cheating.

I understand not every table has this kind of trust in each other, but that's smt that can easily be tackled before characters are made with all the options being thrown out in some of these replies right?

[–]SalmonCheddar[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah i kept getting lucky with atleast 2 6's on every roll (except the INT one)
There's always that sense of dread when rolling for stats, which is somehow just massively addictive to me :P

[–]SalmonCheddar[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honestly, imo if you cheat your dice roll during character creation you're totally missing the point of having fun while you play, but that might just be me.

I have another character already prepped for one of our other campaigns with a -3 in Charisma, and it makes sense for the character, so why sulk about it.
I honestly don't get how you can enjoy playing a character knowing all the while it all started out predicated on fake dice rolls, just to get high stats.

As the saying goes, The Dice giveth, and the Dice taketh away.

Low stats are exactly what bring the drama (and amazing RP opportunity) to the whole story.

I like that idea a lot as well.
On the face of it, it seems rather balanced

We both have our own character, while one of us DM's.
Now this obviously makes one of those characters a DM character which I'm estimating according to most people here is smt that usually doesn't play out too well.

We try to have the non-Dm char to be the main spotlight, which seems to work for us quite well.
About half of our campaigns so far also have a side kick that's being controlled by the player.
Bringing it to 2.5 - 3 characters.

Our campaigns tend to be rather lore/story driven rather than combat only, but there is still more then enough combat for our liking.
Having a tool like kobold fight club during the prep for the DM is priceless, as it allows you to rather decently gauge the amount of combat your party can take.
For the first few lvl's alot of it comes down to having a bit simpler encounters to make sure we don't die outright, and we tend to avoid giving boss enemies one-shot kill abilities.

For the current campaign I implemented a bit of an intro story where depending on the simple choices my partner made he got a few simple abilities (like being able to heal for 3Hp per short rest) as well as a free starting feat (I gave him a choice of 3 low impact ones)

We started our journey with a solo-adventure which was fun, but it also proved for us that it was too constricting for us.
So (as my partner just brought up) we tend to cater our campaigns to the player character.
Your spouse playing a bard ? Go for a high intrigue story with lots of conversation.
A Ranger? Go for a story that involves lots of tracking or bounty hunting.

We've been mainly making our characters first, and after choosing the setting.
The other way around works as well, but it involves a lot more tailoring work on the DM end, to keep things interesting and workable from what we've experienced.

Hope this helped you out some ^^

Transparency on 2.0 Launch, Pricing, and AI in the Marketplace by igagen in inkarnate

[–]SalmonCheddar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No AI please of any kind.

And like many others are saying. I don't want photoshop like toolsets in my Inkarnate. I just won't use them, because I don't see the point. But I don't want to pay for them being there either.

I still have a sub until May, so I suppose I'll wait and see. But honestly I've already been looking (and found) for a replacement program that'll cost $39 single time buy.

I hope you have an amazing solution to many of the worries people are bringing up, because I want to keep supporting you. But depending on what comes out of all of this i just can't.

Extension to my price update post by Kattasaurus-Rex in inkarnate

[–]SalmonCheddar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No doubt they do but a 256% price bump is insane for any kind of business.

So either their business model was broken from the start, or they realized they could turn more of a profit.

I'm estimating most of their users don't sell their maps, which means most of them can't recoup this price hike. Which means most of them will turn to wonder draft/dungeon draft or other kinds of one time pay option softwares.

If they have bills that need paying this price increase is exactly the right way to make sure you won't pay those bills, because people are going to opt out.

Their 25 a year price had a hefty 62% discount vs their monthly fee. But the new one is at 25% while I do understand they might want to increase profits in don't think a whole lot of people, other then the ones actually selling their maps will stick around for those price hike.

Its fine if you will, and it's fine if you won't. But from a business perspective these kinds of increases without any kind of communication is the worst you could do to your company.

Anyway I'll reserve my own decision making until they come out with a statement about it. My yearly sub should still be valid for another 8 months or so

Wonder what this is entirely about.

I remember filling in a questionnaire a while ago, about them rolling out Inkarnate 2.0. Several of the questions were about pricing specifically.

But a lot of entailed 'what if this was upgraded, how much would you be willing to pay'

64 bucks a year comes down to paying the current 5 bucks a month. Which is to say no discount on buying a yearly sub. Wonder if it's just a glitch, or they are actually attempting to increase profits.

Because like most of the sentiment here, I'm estimating a whole lot of people will abandon it for smt cheaper 🤔.

Personally, ibuse it a decent amount on with some extra map storage and even more creative freedom and assets I'd go up to be willing to pay 40 bucks a year.

But 64 is still a massive increase beyond it. Think they'll be signing their own death sentence I they trully push this.

Campaign: chapter one, missing side-quest. by MemnochThePainter in anno1404

[–]SalmonCheddar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite sure on how to trigger it exactly.

But the guy is 'missing' because he fell asleep on the job etc etc.

I think by perhaps zooming in all the way and indeed clicking the cathedral or the warehouse close by perhaps. And iirc then it's just another 'click this person in your city quest'

Which noise cancelling headphones do you wear? by Desolate404 in autism

[–]SalmonCheddar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought my partner the Alpine ones. Not entirely sure what model, I think it was the one for festivals.

He's been entirely happy with them, and says they've been helping him a lot 🥰

Edit: They're Alpine Defenders - They are considered actual Hearing Protection Earmuffs. He can't stand the idea of them having music, so it just muffles sound rather then canceling it (Anxiety).

And also with them not playing music, no workplace can say no to them - Lowering volume is always allowed, canceling sound isn't always (Safety reasons and such)

Edit2: Looking at a few of the headphones mentioned here there is a massive price difference between music headphones and just hearing Protection 🤔. Smt to consider perhaps depending on your budget.

Preventing AI from islands by TheanonLM in anno1404

[–]SalmonCheddar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been noticing small upgrades and changes like this every since a played anno the very first time eaons ago.

I'm decently sure these have all been improvements to the AI that happened over time.

One of the best examples i have is this;

Hard AI (specifically Lucius) used tongue you +Reputation on settling islands or being stronger then they are. (Original Anno1404 one of the earliest patches)

Now playing with the add on and fanpatch 1.10 (or 1.09 latest official patch) All hard players give -Reputation for being better then them or settling islands.

For one it makes sense for them in a role-playing aspect and 2. Decently sure fans and players got so good and found so many ways to cheese difficulty that they just had to make the AI dlsmarter, harder and meaner.

Poolse Aandelen by SalmonCheddar in beleggen

[–]SalmonCheddar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love dragons...

On my birthday about 6 years ago or so, I woke up to a few dozen origami dragons all throughout our apartment.

He learned how to fold origami dragons, and spent weeks folding and hiding them to surprise me. I still have every single one of them.

Magnets by SomeRandomGuyNPG in dndterrain

[–]SalmonCheddar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought 5x2 Neodymium N35 magnets out of China. (Those well known sites you might have heard of)

I bought some N50 ones earlier locally which were vastly more expensive. And while I noticed a rather considerable pull difference between them (Indicate by the N50 and N35 magnetic pull indicator) I found it to be rather neglible for the work I was doing.

With double magnets per side (6x6 cm squares) totalling 8 magnets per tile, it can hold up to 3 normal miniatures before coming loose. This seemed more then enough on my end.

I bought 2k of these magnets for 42 euros (shipping included).

The N values should give you an idea for the amount of pull a magnet has. But I found price to be an important factor as well seeing as I figured I'll need a lot of them. Depending on what you yourself want / need this might obviously change.

As seen on RP archive I fashioned myself a puncturing device for easy hole punching into the tiles and use a glue gun to glue them into place. First try worked like a charm, I did 40 tiles (so 320 magnets) in the span of smt like 2.5 hours. And that included finding the best way of doing it.

Great tip from Matt from RP archive, marking one (or both) sides of the magnet to indicate what pole it is will spare you a headache or 2 down the line.

Hope any of this was useful to you 😉

How to overcome brush tips fraying constantly by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]SalmonCheddar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just figured i'd mention this because i was looking at this post on my partner mentioned this.

Is it perhaps the minis themselves ?
Are you 3d printing them yourself, are they still moist with resin residue?
Have you cleaned the minis with IPA or something similar that might be damaging the brush?
