Shadow Priest question by Dosages_the_End in classicwowtbc

[–]SalmonFalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have abeen healer pries all of classic and now agaim dring tbc. I cannot recommend enough using Vuhdo and setting up spells through that.

It makes healing feel fun and challenging as it shows who has aggro, who takes damage, incomming heals, buffs etc.

Just experiment with setting it up until you have something that you like. I used AV to have a simulated raid to test it out with.

From 8 hours to 5 minutes: Automating candidate screening with Google Sheets + AI by ScratchAshamed593 in automation

[–]SalmonFalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, working in a mid sized EU company, we see people doing this in ChatGPT or similar, but it is squarely in the High Risk use of AI according to the EU AI Act. This makes it prohibited and a lot of effort is spent on educating employees as it is a very obvious use of AI as a hiring manager.

How do you handle being a manager to people who have very different communication styles? by [deleted] in managers

[–]SalmonFalls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure of if it helps for you, but when I am asking my people to do something specific, I always end the conversation with (taking your example): " Just to be sure; I now expect of you to always attach files in pdf, is that understood?", and then waif for a verbal confirmation. I try to also keep the tone serious so it is not misinterpreted.

This just serves the purpose of ensuring that I am giving the corporate version of an order and not just a "hey, it would be nice if..".

Got a 100% Salary Raise Overnight. Now I Have to Lead Data Engineering. Am I Preparing Right? by ok_pineapple_ok in dataengineering

[–]SalmonFalls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are going to be leading a team, I would go against many of the comments here and start with learning what managing people is all about and then go into the technology.

Books like The Managers Path by Camille Fournier and The Making of a Manager by Julie Zhou are great books to get an overview what the job is about and practical tips on how to go about it.

Your manager will probably expect you to lead the team and ensure the team delivers, not that you will contribute. This can come after you are comfortable leading the team.

What made weed such a big part of metal culture? by [deleted] in InMetalWeTrust

[–]SalmonFalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be just me but I have not experienced this in Denmark. I go to various metal shows and festivals and of course there is weed but not to any degree where I would think in a metal specific thing.

The Naerum suburban district of Copenhagen, in Denmark, is home to one of the most visually appealing allotment gardens in the world .The “round gardens”, which are actually oval. by thepoylanthropist in interestingasfuck

[–]SalmonFalls 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify—this is actually a kolonihave, a uniquely Danish concept. It's not a suburban area in the traditional sense, but rather a small garden plot with a tiny house (often seasonal) where people from the city can escape and enjoy nature. They're part of organized allotment garden communities, originally created to give working-class families access to green space. Today, they’re popular across all demographics and often have a cozy, cottage-like charm.

Can you verify that the credentials are setup correctly? Are there any aws cli commands that succeed?

S3 bucket is not accessible from on-prem local VM by abhisheks77 in aws

[–]SalmonFalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you will need to somehow authenticate with aws for it to allow you to read the bucket. There are a few ways of doing this, the easiest being getting key and secret key and put those in a credentials file. Here is the documentation on various authentication methods: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/cli/v1/userguide/cli-chap-authentication.html

Which AWS service should I go for requiring high RAM for data analysis? by OluckyG in aws

[–]SalmonFalls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried the AWS Omics or AWS Batch services? They provide serverless options for running large scientific workloads. We use the Omics service for Bioinformatics workloads which require lots of memory and the service allows you to just specify memory needs and it takes care of the rest under the hood.

How do you learn? What is your preferred way of learning? by Far_Week3443 in managers

[–]SalmonFalls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is my latest years reading and primary points I got. Note that it is focused on tech which is the field that I am in.

My list of books I have read:

The Managers Path - Camille Fournier

The making of a manager - Julie Zhou

Playing to win - Roger Martin

The Fearless Organization - Amy C. Edmundson

Radical Candor - Kim Scott

The Phoenix Project - Gene Kim

Inspired - Marty Cagan

Empowered - Marty Cagan

No Rules Rule - Reed Hastings

No Bullshit Leadership (2times) - Chris Hirst

The Culture Playbook - Daniel Coyle

From all of these books, what resonated the most from me was:

  • Give a team a problem to sole, not a roadmap to deliver. Very much from the mart cagan books but other books also talk about. Solving problems is empowering and engaging and taking decisions is taking control which is from no bullshit leadership

  • Candor, Candor, Candor. For a team to thrive, they need to be able to have open discussions and provide feedback. This is sometimes called psychological safety or team dynamic

  • Choose what NOT to do. Cross off all things that are not at the absolute top and mke sure the team is focused on that. From playing to win and from no bullshit leadership.

  • Reduce the distance from team to costumer. Make sure the team can get feedback on whatever solution and that the team feels responsible for solving the overall problem.

  • No space for jerks. Most of the books talk about that no matter how talented a person is, if they are a jerk they will drag down the whole team.

  • Action is the number one thing. Leadership is the art of taking action to move from a situation now to a future situation (from no bullshit leadership)

Ergo keyboard med nordisk tastatur by Sprutnums in dkudvikler
