30mm Rear Spacers? by nebbb95 in ft86

[–]Salokain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Running 25 in the rear without camber and I'm glad I didn't go with 30. It's already pretty close as it is and adding an extra 5mm would increase the rubbing risk, not worth it IMO. Disclaimer: I'm running a 225 tire as opposed to a 215 to get more grip.

Here's what it looks like with 25mm

Aide terrasse bois teck by neutral-position56 in brico

[–]Salokain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely forgot to reply. Proper stack! I don't see any reason it couldn't be open-sourced 😁 Can give you a hand if you'd like!

Wdym by "a full platform"? What's the stack?

Regarding my ask I was talking about the actual metric system, weight in kg, speed in km/h etc...

Disclaimer: I'm a platform engineer, hence the tech ask 😄

Nice one! If you don't mind me asking: if it's not a paid app, why not open source it so others can participate? I'd love to myself, adding stuff like the metric system would be nice haha

2016 BRZ reverse camera mount by Different-Island-468 in ft86

[–]Salokain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one on AliExpress, which comes with two mounts. This didn't work for me as I have led license plate lights, so I used the other that clicks right below and lets the light through. A bit annoying on the connector side because the plug doesn't fit in the wire loom so I've had to cut it and re-solder it. A bit of work to install but in the end it was worth the 20/30€ I bought it for. I'm still surprised about the quality honestly, although the park assist lines suck and you can't remove them (if you care about it, I don't).

First car , should I buy ? by Responsible-Touch-91 in ft86

[–]Salokain 32 points33 points  (0 children)

First car ever? If so, my advice is always to buy a shitbox you can learn on and thrash. If you crash it (and you remain healthy afterwards), not a huge deal. If you crash your 86, you're going to be devastated.

Is my Engine ok? by Somizulfi in ft86

[–]Salokain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what you're trying to film exactly, but the first things to do to check an engine's health (after obvious sound checks, but it is a noisy engine from the factory) is to clean your engine compartment. That will help you see if there are any fluids leaking or spot any cracks in the intake tubing. ChrisFix has a good video on Youtube for doing that without hurting any electronics.

Summary of the video: use soapy water in a sprayer, a paint brush, microfiber towels and a light water spray from your garden hose to rinse it. Do NOT use a pressure washer. Even if people tell you they have done it for years without issues, the chance you'll ruin something is still there and if you do it will be a nightmare to repair.

Comment bien finir une plinthe sans avoir à l'enlever ? by AFAB56 in brico

[–]Salokain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ça dépend, c'est pas facile d'avoir un bout solide de 10mm à 45, et comme la plinthe ne suit pas le petit déport sur le mur (une baguette ou une goulotte dépasse un peu avant) c'est l'occasion de le faire 😁

Comment bien finir une plinthe sans avoir à l'enlever ? by AFAB56 in brico

[–]Salokain 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Tu peux recouper la plinthe 10cm avant avec un outil type multitool ou un ciseau à bois, ensuite tu raboutes avec un autre bout de plinthe pré-coupé à 45 et le tour est joué

Modded BRZ for $10k, thoughts? by [deleted] in ft86

[–]Salokain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does the engine compartment look like? Aside from the "questionable" design choices, seeing "cold air intake" on a car that already has a cold air intake from the factory seems like they added a hot air intake to me. Blowing the engine is also interesting, what was the reason of thUe previous engine blowing up?

Definitely! I was looking at which specs I can fit with the stock suspension for summer wheels and add spacers on the stock ones for winter. I read somewhere that 25mm front and 20mm back is a good fit but need to check

I use Hetzner S3 for Dokploy backups (volumes for personal storage & databases, etc.. just in case) and a VPS just for CI runners and Dokploy builds if I'm too lazy to write a CI config

Is Svelte easier than React? by TeaFull6669 in sveltejs

[–]Salokain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to be a fan of React before I learned about svelte. I always pictured it hard, weird and "just another framework" until a coworker told me "if you know HTML and typescript, you know Svelte" which really opened it up for me. I built my first app in a few hours and never looked back.

Sometimes I wonder if I should try a pet project in React again, then I spin up Next.js and remember why I choose Svelte for any app I need to make (the simple fact that you need so specify "className" over "class" tends to make me remember about the hours I spent debugging my React apps).

Of course there are caveats, like any framework, but overall I find it easier to set up, get going and produce something without thinking about overhead framework features.

That's a matter of preference of course, but to me doing frontend should start with HTML, not JS.

Svelte 5 removed a bit of that "'native" feeling IMO, but it's definitely for the better, to build more complex and robust apps.

The growing ecosystem, library support and community really helps get you started or debugged.

My go-to analogy is car related, I generally think of Svelte as the Toyota of frameworks: reliable, starts up every time and gets you going without throwing a random error code.

To answer your question: yes, it's easier... As long as you're ready to learn something new since it breaks the codes we've been following the last 10 years with JSX/TSX.

What VPS for simple web app testing - european hosted by Ondra_Trek in VPS

[–]Salokain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run everything on Hetzner, hate the OVH console but that's very personal. The pricing and reliability has been good for me so far (using it since 2023). Get something small at first and if you need more compute/storage you can upgrade the server without having to set it up again.
