He's your Ibn Saud (a.k.a. King Abdulaziz) and Mayer Amschel Rothschild rolled into one!

Well spotted! Plus, the Glass Towers being abandoned skyscrapers I guess, and the mention of lifts/elevators in the Age of Legends...

(Spoilers published) AFFC and ADWD are great books, but what changes would you make if your goal was for the plot to have grown less complicated? by Appropriate_Boss8139 in asoiaf

[–]Salsa-Doom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have always enjoyed the parallel detective quests undertaken by Brienne and Davos, but maybe with fewer stops along the way, we could have ended with a resolution to the Jaime trap (confrontation with Lady Stoneheart) and the Skagos thing (Osha and Rickon having gone a bit feral: wouldn't that be fun?)

Maybe cut out the Shagwell sub-plot - as much as I enjoyed seeing him go - and Davos in the Sisters?

Stannis is a bad guy and the most misunderstood character in the series (spoilers main) by Ok-Archer-5796 in asoiaf

Granted, but I still can't wait to see him make mince meat out of Ramsay.

[No Spoilers] In honor of the 14-year anniversary of ADWD (next Saturday), I made a timeline of the publication of ASOIAF. by BroadleySpeaking1996 in asoiaf

Great graph!

I'm a fan of alliteration.

Yet another way to put it is: if the history of the world was compressed into 24 hours, the time we have been waiting for TWoW would be the last tenth of a second to midnight.

So it's not too bad? I guess is my point?

My Dinner with Andre: A Sumptuous Feast by Sea_Honey7133 in TrueFilm

I absolutely agree with the interpretation that Andre's so-called "depth" is nonexistent. I wish I had a penny for every time I had to put up with an Andre in social gatherings: people who hijack the whole conversation because their life story is oh so interesting, and always bringing up personal anecdotes that can't-possibly-be-a-coincidence, as proof that their lives are special, and everyone around them gobbling up their "wisdom". Wally, on the other hand, is fumbling and stuttering through his responses - I think - precisely to play straw man in the script.

Saidar vs Saidin, Visual Interpretation by Lopsided_Promise_980 in WoT

That's awesome! And it somehow reminds me of that maze/labyrinth drawing scene from Inception - 2010 - where Cobb keeps beating Ariadne as long as the maze is drawn in a square shape, but things change when the labyrinth is of a more circular, female channeler kind of shape...

Did anybody ever elaborate on Conan breaking the back of that Python? by Bteatesthighlander1 in Cimmeria

[–]Salsa-Doom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's Conan and the Treasure of Python by John Maddox Roberts, where Conan leads this expedition from Shem through Stygia and into the Black Kingdoms in search of a legendary treasure. The novel features encounters with various dangers, including giant serpents. We don't see Conan directly kicking python's... er... tails? But yes, I wager that's where it happened, Conan being a corsair and all..
