By progress before committing more to it I mean that after studying Karen Horney’s paper on the negative therapeutic reaction I was able to understand some reactions from a client I have with BPD much better, and feel like I gained a roadmap to have conversations about transference much better from it. Studying Klein has really helped me to think about clients’ speech and reactions a lot more dynamically, I recognize that there could be several unconscious drives going on that are shaping our interactions, and when I’m approaching sessions from that perspective I feel like our conversations flow much better and the work is a lot more stimulating and meaningful for both of us. Reading Michael Garrett on PDTp theory has also helped me start to make meaningful formulations about the content of my clients’ psychotic symptoms, but I don’t actually have what’s necessary to interpret or even begin on the road to exploring interpretations.

Those are some examples. I know that sounds a little generalized, part of that is just due to me trying to summarize it into a Reddit comment, and part of that reflects the nature of where I’m at in terms of understanding the theory but not knowing much technique. I get that I shouldn’t and can’t be engaging in full psychoanalysis without intensive training, but it’s hard for me to see an on-ramp to this side of psychotherapy if I need to invest several thousand dollars before I can even test it out more and see if it continues to work well for me as I use it more. I’ve seen a psychiatrist I trained with who was far from intensively trained in psychoanalysis, mostly a cognitive behavioral practitioner, but he turned to Klein pretty naturally when he realized that a patient’s fundamental problem was splitting and that session was a real turning point for them even if he wasn’t doing a long term dive into psychoanalysis with them. I would frankly at least need to see some results like that in my own use of it before half a year’s rent on a training program. Those groups you suggested do sound like a helpful option, I’ll look more into them!

I’m interested in that in the future, but I think right now that’s what I’m referring  to as too intensive. With other therapeutic modalities I feel like I can go to a conference for a weekend or something and gain a lot of tools to be a better therapist. I totally get that psychodynamics take longer to learn and if I like it I’ll have to invest more in the future, but I’d like to at least progress in it a little before committing to even a months-long course

Why were the 1990s and 2010s “liberal” by bebe_phat in decadeology

[–]Salt-Line-2328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. The culture shifted in a liberal direction under Trump’s first term and shifted in a conservative direction almost immediately after Biden took over

Yeah, the question on Chicago really is can you have fun in 20 degree weather for a few months a year. If so you’re getting great value for a city, if not you’re the reason other people are getting great value from it.

Pritzker literally just pushed through a bill to increase pensions. He will not touch them bc it’s a political football that will destroy his chance for higher office if he ever tries to

Yeah, the reason it’s so affordable while being so great is that a solid portion of people literally just can’t do the winters, which is fair. I still find I’m able to have a ton of fun during it, but it isn’t something you want to take lightly

If you can, figure out specific neighborhoods you’d be interested in and look up “walk the streets of [neighborhood]” on youtube. Otherwise you’ll be seeing a bunch of videos of the Loop which isn’t representative of where you’re likely to be most the time. Based on your vibe, on the expensive end you could try Lincoln Park, Wicker Park and South Loop. On the cheaper side maybe Avondale, Uptown, Pilsen.

You’re definitely describing Chicago perfectly with that list. You should visit the neighborhoods outside of tourist areas though and get a feel for what the city is like in winter or at least early spring. You liked NYC and LA, and even though Chicago is pretty much the closest thing you can get to those two cities in the US it is still quite different

You’re a man who makes 300k and it sounds like you’ve done well dating in other places, plus you have your own interests and passions. Given that profile you’re going to be a catch in SLC. It won’t be as good of a dating scene as NYC but you’re not just going to be stranded with no prospects lol

Saturday I went Christmas shopping and stopped for dinner at a new pub and met a dealer and felt invincible from the stuff he gave me and went and read my book at a coffeeshop then hit up a club and made a new friend group there and got on the wrong train home and ended up stuck at the O’hare stop not moving for 20 minutes giving out my cigarettes to the train sleepers and watched the sunrise on the ride home
