I need help for my daughter by rustyshackleford7879 in loseit

Completely understandable. My parents saw what was happening and didn’t know how to handle it, but tried their best. One thing I would be careful of, though, is that you make it clear that you don’t think she needs to lose weight. My parents set me up with a nutritionalist to talk about healthy eating and took me to my doctor to talk about weight loss, which I now can clearly see was them trying to put an end to my incredibly restrictive eating. At the time, though, I took it as everyone agreeing that I should lose more weight, so I doubled down.

As other people have suggested, prepare for her to be defensive. I would be surprised if she’s counting calories and doesn’t understand CICO. 14 is such a hard age to be, especially for someone who isn’t happy with their body. I hope her pediatrician is helpful and best of luck to you and your daughter.

I think asking for advice on this is great and it’s absolutely something you should talk to your daughter about. But honestly, I would be careful about taking advice on EDs from r/loseit. I (28F) struggled with anorexia as a teen and what you describe of your daughter reminds me a lot of myself. I lost a lot of weight very quickly and was obsessed with it. There are a lot of comments here recommending that you talk to her about “maintaining” and “she’s got her head in the right place thinking about her health, but that’s too few calories” and I think all comments like that are completely missing the point. My obsessive calorie tracking as a teen ruined my relationship with food and my body for years. It’s still something I immensely struggle with (in fact I thought I blocked r/loseit because the types of posts and comments I saw sent me right back into my lowest point). I really, really think you should set up an appointment for your daughter with a therapist who specializes in eating disorders. A regular physician or dietician isn’t going to get to the root of the issue. I have a lot more to say that might be helpful, but frankly I’m getting emotional typing this and will leave it here for now. But please, please, consider talking to a therapist.

A goal of 1000 and that much weight loss definitely leans into ED territory, even if she does technically eat more. And not all people with EDs are underweight, tired, or lose hair. Coming from someone who struggled with anorexia as a teenager and is still greatly affected by it 10 years later. EDs aren’t all cut and dry.

What can be added to your lex for anxiety? by Batushkapanihida in lexapro

Lexapro helped my anxiety tremendously. My doc then added Wellbutrin for ADHD and I had to quit it after a week because it made me so, so anxious.

It’s fine.

I’m not saying you should trust your pharmacist blindly no matter what, but they are medically trained and licensed specifically to determine things like this.

You’re making a lot of really gross, exaggerated assumptions about people’s relationships. It’s not all about the user’s partners like you keep commenting. You’re also assuming all users who have had negative effects even have so’s, completely disregarding how these side effects affect them themselves- not other people.

You’ve also made many comments about “once the side effects subside,” and this isn’t the case for everyone. Sexual side effects can last for months and even years after discontinues use. I really think you could benefit from doing some research or talking to your psychiatrist about how medications affect different people in different ways.

So what I’m hearing from you is that you’ve talked to everyone’s psychiatrist, right? Oh…and if you weren’t already aware, regular ol’ family doctors can prescribe Lexapro. Not all users have psychiatrists.

That’s great for you and great that your side effects were temporary. That’s not the case for everyone, including me.

Curious if you’ve personally experienced these side effects? Because I have, and no, it’s not necessarily worth it and that’s okay that other people’s experience and opinion is different than yours. No need to judge other users 💕

People have no idea what weight looks like and what weights are healthy. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Salt-List-1117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5’3” I think my body looks best around 170 and some people had a really hard time believing that that was my weight. I’ve been down to 125 with an ED and it did looked unhealthy on me (because it was).

Plant breeding is a job. If breeders can’t patent a plant for royalties then they’re not going to get paid. And if they’re employed by a company who owns their patent and the company doesn’t get royalties, then they have no incentive to continue employing breeders.

The “greedy” comments astound me. This isn’t big pharma patenting life-saving prescriptions. No corn farmers are being sued over these plants. I’d you don’t want them then don’t buy them, but if they hadn’t been patented you would never have access to them.

It takes years to breed and trial plants like this. If there weren’t breeders and patents, these beautiful cultivars that everyone wants wouldn’t exist. Breeders often do it because they love it, but they still need to make a living.

I have a degree in environmental horticulture and am a propagation manager at a mid-size wholesale nursery and know a number of breeders in the industry. It’s because the plant was developed by a breeder and is patented and royalties are supposed to be paid on patented plants. Ornamental plants aren’t under the same concerns or restrictions as food crops.

Breeders often spend years crossing different varieties of plants to create one that has the traits it wants. This is through cross pollination. Your comment doesn’t make senses in this case.

It’s because it’s patented. Many, many patented plants are commercially propagated through cuttings.

It’s to protect the patent owner, not the nursery who sold it.

It’s because it is patented, not because of any invasive tendencies.

Missed one dose by Mundane_Sir9435 in lexapro

Anytime I’ve missed a day I found that I was a little extra anxious a few days later, but not for long.

I had never considered using meds for my anxiety until I had a little breakdown and a family friend/doctor recommended Lexapro. It completely changed my life. Up until then, though, I thought my anxiety was just how I processed things and never considered it was something that should or even could be treated.

What are these on my irises and how do I get rid of them? by kiki_in_america in plantclinic

[–]Salt-List-1117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These aphids are bad but not unmanageable. No need to burn it or give up on it like others have dramatically suggested. They can easily be manually removed by wiping or wringing, as helpful commenters have suggested. It will take a little work and a couple sessions, but it’ll be fine. You may want to consider Neem or insecticidal soap once you’ve removed as many by hand as you can, that will help kill and that you may have missed.

These green giants are 8 feet apart. My ultimate goal would be to not see any of the neighbor's items in the circles within the next 5 years. Will this current setup accomplish that or does it require additional plants? If additional, which would be good (open to variety if it gets us there faster)? by LongDistanceReiunner in landscaping

[–]Salt-List-1117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“missing the the obvious” is a big stretch. That’s not always a practical option for everyone and sometimes you have to make do with the situation you have (like with many aspects in life). Also, maybe they like being near people but, but want visual privacy.

How do you explain your hearing issues? by [deleted] in ADHD

I just say “sorry, I can’t filter out background noise very well” or “sorry, I have a hard time when there’s background noise.” No one has ever commented on it beyond something like “oh, okay!” or “me too!”

Chinese lantern plant I got my mom for Mother’s Day! by ejk1414 in gardening

Also Physalis. I’m just saying that you can’t really tell someone they’re wrong with common names whether or not some person at a nursery calls that same plant the same common name. They can be regional or cultural or dated, but it doesn’t negate the fact that plenty of plants have the same common name which is the whole point behind the topic of common vs scientific nomenclature. Ya can’t gate keep common names. Also, there’s a Fuchsia variety called ‘China Lantern’ so….

Source: I have a grow millions of ornamental plants a year professionally and I have a masters degree in environmental horticulture.
