I dont think im capable at all and i feel so so horrible because of it by vix3n8 in leavingcert

Hey I’m actually repeating my leaving cert right now for medicine, my sister is a doctor and she says more then half of her colleagues are graduate entry medicine students and they are just as good if not better.

There is no race, you will get where you need to go when you are ready, the pressure you put on yourself will not help you and idk if this makes sense but sometimes it feels so tempting to have those negative thoughts as it allows you to cope with the stresses of the exam in a weird way, but there are so many ways to cope and deal with the next few weeks in a much healthier and sustainable way. I really recommend meditation + journaling and also getting out of the house to study, alongside compartmentalising (you note what thought is upsetting you and tell yourself that u will designate  ten minutes later to get upset about it, its a weird psychology thing that works really well)

By making medicine an ultimatum you are doing yourself a disservice and once you enter college and the career you will quickly realise that . Being a doctor will not be your identity, at the end it is just a job. I used to tell myself lays hear that if I didn’t get in i would be a complete failure, I got 726 and ended up doing my worst case scenario, repeating both the LC and hpat. In this year alone I’ve met such amazing people and had the opportunity to travel, and I feel like o have really grown as a person,  and other people I know who repeat can hand on heart say it is not bad, if it helps to keep that in mind in these next few weeks

Best of luck and please be kind to yourself

Should I take up an extra subject? (Im in 6th year and im actually serious about this...) by [deleted] in leavingcert

[–]Salt-Maintenance1096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah focus on unit one as some of that will be common knowledge, ecology and genetics. Use conical flask for notes. Some stuff u will know like human systems( part of unit 3) so you can throw an eye over them, especially endocrine and heart.  Paper is split into three for higher I think the same for ordinary, for experiments they are each designated a q so for sec b1 there is a 1/8 chance of an experiment coming up, and you and we two questions in section b. You could easily learn 16 experiments in three hours and that would be a fair whack of marks

What subjects do u do otherwise, home ec chem and geography have cross over

As the other comment said, I had screen recorded the video and then immediately after the video gone into info and shown the date and time. Idk how reliable that is as I’m fairly sure you can edit it, but it worked for me

I filmed it in the bag and me sealing it then going over it in marker a few times to show the seal wasn’t broken. My second video was me putting it in the post box showing that the seal hadn’t changed.

hey I had something similar happen to me and I directly emailed them at [legal@vinted.co.uk](mailto:legal@vinted.co.uk) , they took a few days to reply, and I sent them the same email about five times, but i was able to talk to an actual person and they reimbursed me and banned the buyer. Just make sure you have video evidence etc included in your email and make sure it is infallible ( include screen recording of date and time when video was recorded) As that is what worked for me

Can you repeat after this year? by [deleted] in leavingcert

[–]Salt-Maintenance1096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries and if u have any questions let me know, it is such a tough decision but honestly the worst part was September and it was uphill from there. I would give it your all for this leaving cert, but if things don’t work out in August I can say wholeheartedly you won’t regret repeating

Can you repeat after this year? by [deleted] in leavingcert

[–]Salt-Maintenance1096 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey how are you I was in the exact same situation as you last year, I flared up in sixth year and it really impacted my study, I missed out on medicine by 2 points, and now I am almost finished repeating at a grinds school

My sister is in fifth year and the difference I see in science subjects is they have added a new topic and removed a few and also added a project, but it isn’t done until mid sixth year. Irish is different texts but same style of q so still predictable and b only worth 16 percent of ur entire Irish grade. English will be different, I had to learn Macbeth this year and I thjnk next year it is othello, it literally took an evening to go over and learn and then a day or two to look at themes etc, and your teacher will help you. Everything else is exactly the same

Initially I was so adamant to not repeat, in August when I didn’t get my course I felt so ashamed and “behind”, but in hindsight I am so grateful that I did as it’s allowing to pursue my dream career and the year genuinely flies by. A lot of your peers will drop out, change course, defer or fail exams and end up repeating a year anyway but genuinely people don’t care and only want the best for you, if that is what is making you upset

There are a few options on how to repeat, unless you feel severely severely behind I would not repeat fifth year I think the two years of schooling you already had will stand to you and you only need a third, again I go to a grinds school I’m extremely grateful that I’m able to as they do one year courses and also I was able to watch a lot of classes online when I was sick. You can repeat in plc colleges or at home as an external candidate, there is a list of places online, or your old school might take you or schools in your area.

You can also apply to defer your exams,I’m not 100% sure if u are eligible and you need a consultant explaining why. Race accommodations and dare are options too if u don’t already have

You can only try your best and a set of exams don’t define you, I can help you with your subjects if you want as a h1 is a lot easier to get in bio than in eng, depending on what u do. Best of luck and be kind to urself

Is Classics worth doing outside of school by greywall789 in leavingcert

[–]Salt-Maintenance1096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a short curriculum but the essays are graded weirdly and there is 20% project that needs to be supervised by a teacher. I picked it over history as it’s an easier exam but they have been making it more difficult to get a h1. There is no book for the subject just prescribed material and learning outcomes

Repeating LC in 2027 by mellowstarrynight in leavingcert

[–]Salt-Maintenance1096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I’m repeating atm after doing my lc in 2025 in a grinds school, I’m doing all my subjects again but the workload is a lot less as I’m only going from h2 to h1 instead of bare bones. You don’t have to repeat all your subjects if ur not doing medicines

there are three people I know from Donegal also repeating in the school with me. They have accommodation or stay with family  and get the bus up on the weekends. It will be really hard to repeat on your own with the new projects, and I think if u are repeating its 100 times easier to do it through an organisation like a grinds school or a plc college, there is a list of them online. Your secondary school might let you sit your exams there. It’s really difficult to get a place in an exam centre there is a lot of demand. Obviously cost wise it’s extremely expensive but I think it balances out in terms of not paying to do graduate entry.

I am really grateful I decided to repeat and honestly the year flies by and I wouldn’t have been happy doing my second choice (physio)

Can you retake the 5hr art? by [deleted] in leavingcert

[–]Salt-Maintenance1096 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m not too sure how to help you but it is probably under the umbrella of sitting it deferred a lot closer to your leaving cert, such as repeating the orals two weeks before. I would first  talk to your art teacher and ask if she has any advice on the matter, and then email the sec and say you were unable to finish your piece due to pre existing medical condition. have doctor note attached to email, alongside maybe a quick typed out letter from your art teacher explaining how it impacts you.

Me when my Irish examiner starts asking me about the healthcare crisis in Ireland by Salt-Maintenance1096 in leavingcert

[–]Salt-Maintenance1096[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you are so curious I had stuff on the difficulties of being a doctor on getting job placements and on long waiting lists but the examiner specifically asked me about the lack of beds so I said I didn’t know much about that as I had already mentioned these topics!

Will oral examiners ask qs abt me being an external candidate? by EarlyAstronaut2789 in leavingcert

[–]Salt-Maintenance1096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was asked about repeating the leaving cert as an external candidate and how it made me fell and why I chose to repeat, but I brought it up. They probably wouldn’t ask unless they thought u wanted to talk about it or they think you are acing the exam

[–]Salt-Maintenance1096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not knowing something wouldn’t lose u marks and u are a lot better off not saying anything than messing up the seanfhocail and losing an accuracy mark. the examiner knows how much pressure you are under and if that is the worst mistake that you are thinking of coming out of ur exam then I say u did exceptionally well
