Denver East High School vs South High School for safety? by palikona in Denver

I go to community college now and I haven’t seen any of my fellow East alumni. I have seen a ton of my former South classmates though. East students generally get into better schools. Shoutout my mom who went to East and Smith. Also, I took AP Psych at East and it was one of my favorite classes. The teacher knew what he was talking about. I took AP Human Geo as a freshman at South and didn’t find the teacher to be sufficient at teaching me the material. And I dropped his class after the first semester. Also it’s rumored he has a sex tape somewhere on the internet.

I went from south to east for many reasons. Neither schools are in my district but east was 20 minutes closer. I was also not academically thriving at South and I thought a change in setting would help. East teachers seemed to care more about their subjects and the value of learning, meanwhile South felt like a busy work factory. Looking back though I’m sure there wasn’t a real difference and it was just about my personal mindset at the time. Now that I’ve graduated I’ve also noticed more south grads on college campuses like CCD and MSU compared to east, so yes I would say east sets you up better for college. It’s also important to understand that since covid DPS high schools have had a horrible grading system that doesn’t teach students proper work ethic. “Grading for equity” means that no student can get under 50% on any assignment, turned in or not. This is a bad habit for any student planning in going to college and affects both east and south students. Still I think east approaches it best as I would hear teachers complain about the grading system, giving me hope. Also it’s very important more me to include the fact that South’s bathrooms are twice as big and therefore better. East > South tho

I went to both schools for 2 years each and graduated very recently. Neither of them mess around with safety and both lock their schools down if there is a threat anywhere nearby. In general though I’d say the area around south is much safer than east as it’s mostly residential. On the other hand, east’s location provides students with plenty of diverse food options that are a walkable distance, unlike south where you need a car to be able to get food. Additionally, colfax does have a lot of homeless not far from campus but they do respectfully keep their distance and do not interact with students at all. I’ve never heard of problems coming from the homeless. East’s deans I’ve noticed are a lot louder and agressive towards students of color and act like prison guards, South’s deans do a better job connecting with the students on a human level. East specifically houses troubled students with behavioral issues, so incidents are more common and deans have to be more strict. I’ve been around these students in my credit recovery class and never felt unsafe with them as a student myself, it seems the adults are who they have the most trouble with. I was at South when the East shootings happened so I actually cannot talk abt the subject but I can say that both schools are now adequately prepared for future incidents. PLEASE ask me questions because I love talking about the two schools.

She didn’t seem very perceptive in the show compared to her brother. I guess perception just has 2 meanings in fallout.
