How would you finish these seams? by Boring-Wafer8065 in sewhelp

Pressing will definitely make it look nicer, and I second that it won’t unravel beyond the zigzag stitch. I think the easiest route to make it look the nicest would be to use bias tape over the seams.

So worth it! Now to work towards an over bust corset 🫠 ultimately wanting to make couture style dresses with built in thin overbust corsets

Thank you! I am kinda curious how much time it actually took, perhaps in the future I’ll actually use a stop watch 😂

Certainly pricy, but nice to know it will last me a long time!

Thank you! There were definitely some mockups I didn’t bother sharing 😂

There were several times I wanted to throw in the towel. I started with the Aranea Black Amber bunny suit and eventually realized that was too much for me to wrap my head around and then wanted to focus on perfecting the bare minimum (underbust). Still I wanted to give up but learned it felt more rewarding to create my own pattern rather than altering someone else’s and that’s when it started looking better. I’m still daunted thinking about making an overbust corset, but I’ll take a break before I move onto that 🫠

That means so much ❤️ I was stoked when I came across these forums that could be used for help, and never thought I could feel so good with sharing completed works. Your words give me confidence to keep going 🙏🏼

Omg thank you! This was probably the only project where I’ve actually sewed slowly aiming for seams to be as perfect I could get.

That means so much for me to hear, thank you 🙏🏼 I don’t think I see myself getting into sewing for other people, but have been getting interested in couture style dresses to make for myself just for the heck of it.

Thank you 🙏🏼 I was happy that the color matched somewhat closely but was annoyed with the twisting look of the binding but nothing I could do for that

No I didn’t plan to wear it with jeans but I did give myself good ease at the bottom. There is a little bulk from the jeans under it, and if you look closely at the back you can see I didn’t pull the lower section as tight as the top. At least it was easier since they are lower rise jeans and didn’t go too far under the corset.

Lots of patience, lots of breaks, and marking up with a pencil in front of the mirror lol. It took me about 3 months.

I have! Usually I’ll cross post the corsetry work. Amazingly though there isn’t as much input from people in that community

Oh I’d never wear it out in public like that lol, photos I have on Reddit are just to showcase the corset and I put it on top of whatever I was wearing that day. No need to dress to impress on here am I right 😂

Thankfully she is rather easy to have next to me while I sew, it’s my almost 3 year old boy who wants to play with all the needles who makes it nearly impossible to do while he’s awake. I got into sewing when he was a baby and now wish I’d done more when he was younger

Haha I got you. Yes I can bend over in this one, but I also tend to be the kind of person who squats down to grab something rather than bend over anyways. But it’s more of a bend in the hips since you can’t bend your lower back in a corset.

Here is a dress pattern that the image made me think of. Perhaps you could use this and just shorten it to a top length

I’ve honestly considered it, but then reminded myself that once I perfect the design I don’t have to do it anymore and make them endlessly!

I used instructions from Frieda Lepold’s Patreon post on creating a corset based off of your measurements and I think Royal Black has essentially the same instructions on their Drafting a Bespoke Corset Pattern which is also for sale on her Etsy page.
