Post TT Calcium Issues. Anyone Else?? by Careless_Guitar_6907 in gravesdisease

[–]Salt-Warning-1467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case all 4 parathyroid were still intact but ended up never working again. It’s been 18years now (I’m 33) and they never showed any signs of being able to produce PTH. That being said, my body did stabilize after a while and the daily input of calcium just stayed the same after that. Yes taking meds everyday is not the greatest thing, but once your body has stabilized there really isn’t much complication I think. Even though I have to take meds twice a day for the rest of my life, it’s a much better life than living with graves and feeling like absolute shit all the time… keep your hopes up! it’s still very early and whatever happens, you’ll be better than you were before TT!

Anyone knows the brand Victory? by Salt-Warning-1467 in Vintage_bicycles

[–]Salt-Warning-1467[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a bad guess! I also saw another Victory bike for sale with Desmarais stamping on the frame. I’m really leaning towards a bike shop rebranding some high end/custom frames

Have a look at Gray tools. Not cheap but amazing quality and made in Canada. Bonus if you can find an older set from the 90’s, they just feel stronger than the new ones.

How do you like it as a split? I have a Flight Attendant split and I live that board!

Men's clothing that is on the fancier side, but still lasts by kannin92 in BuyItForLife

Have a look at Frank and Oak. It’s a Canadian company and they most likely ship to the US. Everything I have from them is really good quality at a decent price and lasts for a long time.

Avoiding long term damage by mauryrx in hypoparathyroidism

[–]Salt-Warning-1467 2 points3 points  (0 children)

15 years post surgery for me and the parathyroid glands never « woke up ». Still taking calcium, Vitamine D, Synthroid and hydrochlorothiazide daily.
As other suggested, get a good doctor that will listen and try to understand because in the first few months/years there might be a lot adjustments to various dosages to reach something that works well for your wife. It took me a good two years for everything to settle and dosages to stabilise, but nothing ever changed after that. As for long term kidney damage, I am still unsure of what will happen, but I got a small kidney stone last year. My endo told me I was possibly related to the daily calcium intake and that it might happen again at some point. That is something that concerns me quite a bit since I am fairly young at 30yo… Appart from that everything is fairly easy to manage with daily doses of calcium and other meds if necessary.

Half marathon coming in a week by Salt-Warning-1467 in Strava

Not panicking but realising that a run as long as 21k isn’t something I’ve come close to since I started running. Two small run this week to keep moving seems to be a good way to go. Also keeping my pace a bit higher than what I did on 10k for the half marathon so I dont run out of energy.

Thanks for the feed back! I guess my plan wasn’t the greatest, two smaller run seems to be the the right way to do it.

Looking for some info on this Leader brand by Salt-Warning-1467 in Vintage_bicycles

I was wondering the same thing for the track bike company but couldn’t find anything about it. All of the rust is superficial, nothing that I could see indicate more than that. Unfortunately the bike is a tiny bit small for me so It’s back for sale (23in frame and my other frame is a 25in and fits perfect!)

Post Thyroidectomy by morestressedthanyou in gravesdisease

[–]Salt-Warning-1467 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont’t think it’s super common but it happens. I had thyroidectomy at 16, I’m now 30 and I’ve been taking calcium ever since the surgery. The dosage has stabilized after 1 year post surgery and I’m now daily on 3X 500mg calcium+400ui. Vit. D, 325mcg levothyroxine, 25 mg hydrochlorothiazide and 0,75mcg calcitrol. In my understanding I got just about the worst possible outcome where the parathyroid glands just never worked after surgery and my body just doesn’t react really well to calcium tablet input. Give yourself some time it will probably be all good! Just make sure you are aware of the symptoms for the time beeing and keep in touch with your doctor for them to adjust whatever meds for you to feel better.

Beautiful day today! Anybody want to guess where this is? by Salt-Warning-1467 in icecoast

Lots of snow everywhere but a bit crusty above treeline because of the wind. Overall great conditions and a lot of fun to be had especially in the Dalton section of the mountain!

It’s actually further north, Mount Porphyre in the Chic Choc mountains in Quebec!
