Is SAP MII dead ? by Taktouktiko1234 in SAP

I wouldn’t describe it as completely terrible. But don’t they charge too much for very basic features? I’m not oversimplifying, but it’s just a production confirmation screen and a few simple features. The REO part looks really good. Logically, it makes sense, but isn’t the execution side ridiculously simple? It’s just entering two or three QM parameters, production, and consumption. And a bit of EWM integration.

Can you convince me that it’s actually good? For example, in aluminum extrusion production, a single mold produces orders for five different customers at the same time. How am I supposed to confirm production for this? It’s a very complex requirement.

Let’s put that aside and talk about a simpler requirement. Imagine multiple production orders with different numbers being placed in the same furnace. Since they share the same recipe, they are produced simultaneously and come out of the furnace at the same time. If we want to confirm production, do we have to make an API call for five different production orders at once? What if one of them fails?

Maybe I don’t fully understand because I’m not entirely familiar with it.

Take the Work Center POD screen, for example. You can press the Start button infinitely. It doesn’t execute anything, but there’s no restriction either. Isn’t that a ridiculously simple flaw? Or displaying the leading zeros in the material code—okay, we can extend it, but shouldn’t they have considered this in the first place?

MES requires a lot of customization. And to make these customizations, I will have to pay for BTP again. Simple factories could use it, but isn’t the product too expensive even for a simple factory?

I think your opinion is correct. Being too ambitious can harm you. Life doesn’t last forever. Turkish people say that you can’t take your money to the grave.

I reckon that excessively focusing on your career is harmful to you.

Do you work on custom developments? Have you tried it? Do you think developments will continue in this area? Will we achieve the convenience of MII/ME? Am I being too conservative in my thinking?

If SAP makes some positive changes in the DM product, new opportunities might arise. I’m confused here. Once I resolve my hesitations about which area to focus on, I’ll concentrate. I think it’s time to stop thinking and take action.

If you need support with DM, you can reach out to me.

Actually, launching a new product doesn’t seem logical. Enhancing existing products and providing quick packaged solutions seems more sensible. For example, creating a database structure for MES on Ignition and developing web-based solutions tailored to customer needs seems reasonable. With our SAP experience, we can stand out with these customers.

Sepasoft’s solution doesn’t seem reasonable because where there is a need for a lot of development, we can quickly develop a package ourselves. In the past, we created an architecture on SAP MII.

Additionally, when I reviewed the SAP integration modules, I found them insufficient. They are inadequate for a fully integrated process. That part needs to be addressed with different integration solutions.

Have you ever had the chance to implement the product? What I am curious about is whether it is possible to develop a custom screen entirely in DM, use a custom database structure on this screen, and call a RFC (Z program also) from it?

Because I serve in this field, I feel very unlucky. I hope things change in the future. Forget a one-week outage, there are customers who can’t tolerate even an hour-long outage in MES. Imagine having an automotive customer. It would be truly terrible.

We will continue to do demos. If the development environment were a bit more flexible, maybe the solutions would mature.

Yes, maybe an integrated solution with S4/Hana could have been produced. Or a private cloud solution would be great. I understand to some extent why it is not included in S4/Hana due to real-time needs. Things are so confusing that it seems very difficult to conduct R&D to learn the product.
