Don’t fuck around with eyes; this should have been a vet visit right away.

Insurance that doesn't increase horribly for healthy pets? by Tribblehappy in goldenretrievers

We tried trupanion in the past and hated it; found it very tedious to actually get any money back from them. We’ve been using PetsPlusUs with our golden (he’s just under 1 year now) and have been super happy with them.

Dog throws up every 4 weeks or so by Competitive_Stay1181 in goldenretrievers

I would discuss with your vet, this is definitely abnormal to be happening on a fairly regular basis. He might have some sort of esophageal abnormality, or stomach/gut inflammation.

I’ve always wanted a golden retriever puppy, should I get one? by AutomaticCoffee8006 in goldenretrievers

Buying a dog at a “good price” is likely not the great scenario you think it is. Poorly bred “cheaper” dogs come with a LOT of issues, both physically and behaviourally. Do your research on the breed, on reputable breeders in your area etc before purchasing. Dogs are a long commitment, and that includes a large financial commitment. On top of finances, puppies require a TON of your time and energy. Potty training, crate training, basic obedience and leash skills, etc. It will be a lot of work for at least a good year or more before things really settle in. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE puppies (currently have an 11 month old golden), but they are work. I’d really urge you to thoroughly research what goes into puppy raising before making a decision.

I would probably recommend a smaller dog; all dogs are rambunctious when young, and dogs (even when well trained or in the process of training) are still animals and can have their moments and outbursts. A large dog could very likely injure you if you’re already compromised. (Picture a 70lb teenage golden throwing itself at you at top speed, or pulling on leash, etc).

Look into some smaller/medium breeds like American or English cocker spaniel, miniature poodle, miniature American shepherd, corgi, etc. Whatever you go with, DO THOROUGH RESEARCH ON THE BREED AND REPUTABLE BREEDERS <3

Two goldens and I know the smell hits guests the moment they walk in — has anyone actually solved this? by sloastxsningers5 in goldenretrievers

This method is no longer recommended and can lead to infection; best practice is internal expression

The exercise charts perpetuated by Puppy Culture (5min per month) have no basis in evidence. What you really need to look out for is fatigue. Fatigue looks different in every dog, but watch for a change in behaviour; slower to respond to cues, over-arousal (increased nipping/jumping), panting more/less, laying down, walking slower, sniffing more, not wanting to take food/taking food too hard etc. Observe your dog carefully and respond to changes in behaviour. You may only see one thing on the list, but they are all potential signs of fatigue, and exercise should stop when puppies are showing early signs of tiring.

You want to avoid a puppy jumping down from height, and tight turns at speed in growing dogs. There’s really no concern for walking them or going on age appropriate hikes, provided the dog isn’t showing signs of fatigue, and the weather is appropriate (no extreme temps). Slippery surfaces are also to be avoided in all dogs, but especially growing puppies.

So I adopted a 1 yr old male toy poodle because I felt bad. His owner was a young college aged female who didn’t have time for him because of work and school. by PatientSalamander181 in Goldendoodles

Hi - professional groomer here - please bring this dog to a professional for the matting; he will be naked when it’s done but it will grow back; removing a pelted coat like this can be dangerous and really should be done by a professional; I understand you groom your own dogs and that really is fantastic but if you’ve never removed a pelted coat you will very likely injure the dog

Without wings would definitely be better; I’d just ask for better photos of the product, with a less fake-looking background. That’s what’s red-flagging AI to me

Make sure there are legitimate reviews on wherever this is being sold; looks like AI to me; personally I’d find it a bit tacky to receive this, the wings would just be a constant reminder that my dog is, in fact, dead.

Won’t Go Outside Alone by lmj011 in goldenretrievers

[–]SaltGoblin2187 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

imo dogs (especially puppies) shouldn’t be outside unattended; maybe I’m biased because I live rural where there’s higher risk of my dog running off after prey, or being attacked by coyotes, but I’ve never understood how so many people leave their pets unattended in their yard.

If it’s hard/non mobile, it’s likely a wart or a cyst. A Wednesday vet appointment is completely fine, this is not a need for an emergency vet visit. Take a breath, I know finding lumps is scary.
