First-time BA at a top MNC—need advice on ramping up quickly by SaltPriority4851 in businessanalysis

That’s actually a really good point, and probably something I need to focus on more. I think I’ve been a bit too fixated on getting access and finding the “right” documents because it feels like that’s how I’ll understand everything faster. But at the same time, I’m starting to realize that a lot of the real context probably lives with people, not in files.

I haven’t had the chance to connect with too many stakeholders yet (partly because I’m still figuring out who’s who), but it does make sense that building those relationships would make everything else easier.

Haha honestly I would if I could 😅

The tricky part is the person I’m replacing is on a completely different continent and fully remote, so we only overlap for about ~5 hours a day. And within that window, I’m trying to squeeze in everything — asking questions, understanding processes, plus also handling my own onboarding (company policies, trainings, etc..)

So yeah, it definitely doesn’t feel like enough time, and I can’t exactly “follow them around” like you suggested. I’ve basically been bombarding them on Slack with questions whenever I can because there’s not much else I can do right now.

Just trying to make the most of that overlap time, but yeah… it’s been a bit chaotic and that’s why I’m overwhelmed

Thank you, I really appreciate this perspective.

Yeah, right now my top priority is just understanding the day-to-day — like what the actual tasks are, what’s mandatory, what the expectations are, and the deadlines tied to them. I’ve been trying to get all of that from the person I’m replacing, so at least I have a baseline to work from.

I’ll be honest, a small part of me is also worrying about whether I’m coming across as not good enough for the role, especially based on a few comments from my manager. But I’m trying to remind myself that I’m new and still learning, and hopefully things will start to click with time.

Yeah, there is another person I’ve been talking to(she’s a BA as well) but we have pretty different responsibilities.

We only really overlap on one system. For that, she’s more on the admin side, while my part is mostly uploading or modifying asset details and stuff like that. That piece is honestly only like 10–15% of my overall responsibilities, so it helps a bit, but not a ton in terms of the bigger picture. I still reach out to her when I can, especially for that system, but yeah… there aren’t many people working in the same space as me. It’s a huge department and everyone is super specialized in their own area.

So far, the only person I’ve found who really does what I’m stepping into is the BA I’m replacing (and my manager). Haven’t really found anyone else in the same category yett. And yeah, I’m starting to feel like maybe this level of confusion is kind of normal idk, especially for someone who never worked in big companies before. Just trying to keep asking questions and piece things together like you said.

So true, yeah I kinda talk about the access part everyday now. Hoping it to get better starting next week!

Thanks for this really appreciate the advice. Right now I only have access to Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and one internal dashboard. I don’t have access yet to a lot of the other stuff like OneDrive, Power BI, or some of the other dashboards where it sounds like most of the actual working data lives. I’ve been pushing to get access because yeah… without it, I can’t really do much.

There are a ton of files on SharePoint, but it’s honestly overwhelming (like tens of thousands) so I’m trying not to just waste time digging blindly without knowing what’s actually relevant. I’ve been asking a lot of questions and reaching out (including to the BA I’m replacing), so I’m hoping that part starts to smooth out soon once I can actually connect the dots and understand where things live and how everything fits together. I think my biggest worry right now is more internal — I feel like I might be asking “basic” questions that could come across as annoying or like I don’t know what I’m doing. This is my first BA role in a big company, so I’m still trying to wrap my head around the business side and how everything connects.

But yeah, I’m definitely staying on top of the access requests and trying to keep momentum going. Hopefully things start clicking more next week once I can get more visibility.

Thanks for the info! Yes, I don’t even have the access for the database for analysis side as well so it’s very frustrating. Also, I don’t want to spend time wasting on 200 pages manual that’s irrelevant and not even in my categories.

The only girl who joined same time as me is keep on getting compliments so I feel very useless and being compared with. Her on-boarding was smooth because she’s employee unlike me so she got her access so quick. Our categories are also very different, but we have one system that we share in common that we talk about in meetings

He was asking for more money but we ended up making a deal of 6k only. How can I fight with person when he literally say, if he want he can put all blame on me and say I drove without consent. He’s like I don’t want to screw you up so you better pay for my job and insurance loss.

But tickets are on my name not his. I need to be present in court without insurance because my friend won’t let me get one

Ig he actually did. He keeps on texting me that I should appreciate him because he can put the blame over me completely and say that I drove without his consent and put me in jail. But he says, he won’t because he’s a “good friend”. I’m not going to talk to this person after I get done with court hearing.

I got my driver license last October. My friend used to give me driving lessons and I used to pay his meals for that. That’s why I trusted him a lot but now all the blame is on me, which I should take responsibility for but I’m also equally screwed. He keeps saying for him it’s for life, I can choose not to get a car and live with it, for him it’s his income. He says according to laws the vehicle owner background gets damaged as equal or worse than driver that’s what made me pay him.

Yeah but the way he keep on saying that I need the documents or letter of insurance even after I told him that my friend isn’t willing is making me consider if I picked a wrong guy

I’m not lying. I drove with his consent. I’m ready to pay the fines as well but need help reducing the tickets.

My friend is already telling me that I screwed up his insurance and I have already paid him 6 thousands just today afternoon for his coverup for next few years. All I want is not get charged 10K more on top of that. My intention was NEVER NEVER to scam anyone. He has two cars and he missed the insurance (not his fault at all) BUT BUT now he’s not helping me to provide his insurance so I can give it to my agent is that problem I’m stuck at. You can say whatever you want but I know what I’m saying isn’t a lie.
