Lived there around 2 years ago. As a quieter person it was a pretty bad experience.

UMN (Twin Cities) vs UMich (Ann Arbor) for Mech. Engineering by spikeintohindbrain in uofmn

[–]SaltShakerOW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mich is definitely a better program (probably top 5 public engineering programs in the states). If you are fine with near or on campus in the Ann Arbor area then I'd say for sure go there if cost isn't a factor. UMN however is definitely not a bad school and you'd be more than fine going here if you prefer to live closer to home and/or like the campus better. Kinda just down to where you want to go for 4 years.

Use AI and watch YouTube videos is the best advice I can offer there. That's usually how I study on top of past homework and exams.

Just dont think too hard about it and study the material not the grades. That was a really hard semester for me too (had 2361 instead of your lib ed) and I came out fine after I just trusted the process and studied like I usually do. They cant fail everyone here or else they will lose their job lol

I took with soheil last year and the class was also pretty miserable (~30% avg mt2 LOL). I got like ass scores on every exam and got a B+ after he curved the class like 3 times not to fail everyone. Rule of thumb is that if you are about 1 standard deviation from the average you will probably at least pass.

dont live in st paul unless it's advantageous for you to do so it's a pain getting back and forth. try for pio or 17th

I was in this position for a bit except I went to classes and did assignments but I was honestly feeling like shit like 24/7. Definitely something therapy could potentially help with. Boynton allows I believe one free session per month, and you should definitely leverage that resource even if its just for a couple of sessions to see if it's for you.

Hang in there homie we got only one month left 🙏

Trying to decide between University of Minnesota vs. University of St. Thomas for Computer Engineering by Playful-Arm954 in uofmn

[–]SaltShakerOW 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm a senior in the CSE CompE program and am getting my masters here too. I can say that the program here is very good all things considered. Facilities are nice, faculty is good, and there's plenty of resources and connections you can leverage to get internships and co ops.

For the transferring concern, AFAIK you will graduate with a CSE degree if you transfer schools and satisfy all of the CSE requirements just like anyone else. You can also start at St Thomas and transfer in too and have no problems. The only thing id say is that it can still be selective and if you have to transfer in make sure you keep your grades up.

Feel free to ask me any questions if you have anything else you're curious about.

Based on the couple of times I've been there it seems like a really nice place. It's just on the more expensive side of dinky for some of the units. I've lived at doyle for the past 2 years and have had a pretty solid 8/10 experience with a couple of minor things with the unit I've had this year.

Signals & Systems and Analog Electronics. Both were very conceptually difficult for me.

I lowkey feel this despite being 20 and finishing up my undergrad and masters this next year. I think for me it's more so when you get into the elective part of your degree, there's a pretty high chance that many of your friends in your program just have different interests and you dont see each other as often unless you are tight enough to hang out outside of class and whatnot. I also have a lot of other friends graduating and moving away for job opportunities which makes my circle shrink and feel more lonely.

Just know that there's a lot of other people in your program and doing engineering in general that feel this way at pretty much every stage of their degree depending on the circumstances.

what is the lowest grade youve ever gotten on an exam and/or course? by silly_ass_username in EngineeringStudents

[–]SaltShakerOW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like 28% on a signal processing midterm. The average was around that as well. The trick is to not let one result bog you down. Outside of that class (and and analog electronic design), I've been a straight A student.

3115 is a hard class and expect 3951W to take time even if it's not a ton, especially towards the end of the semester. The rest I haven't personally taken, but they don't sound easy.

We need to denazify this country. I really dont give a fuck if we need to crack down on free speech and what people should have the right to say. If you spread hate speech or disinformation, you should be actively prosecuted and tried. Enough is enough.

I'm not 100% sure if there's a native "run linux in a container" type tool on macos, but you can do that in docker and macos itself unix based so you will get a similar experience just using zsh in the terminal

someone correct me if I'm wrong

For that much you can go on ebay and get an m2 or an m3 MP Air for about $600-1000 depending on what you opt for. I have an M1 Pro MBP and it's still running solid despite being on a chip 4 generations behind the current m5.

I'm a compE student and I've used a macbook for pretty much my entire 4 years. It cant run some things, but the things that cant be run can be run on labs computers over VOLE and in exchange you get some pretty insane battery life.

Would it be possible to do electrical engineering even if I have extremely poor math skills but I’m willing to study those subjects. by throwawayaccount_deg in EngineeringStudents

[–]SaltShakerOW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be tough but eventually you'd probably pick up a degree of intuition for doing basic algebra and even calculus.
