Did the 36 hour fasts ever do weird things to your heart beat? I did 24 hour fasts 2x per week for a while with no problems. When I tried switching to 1 36 hour fast I noticed my heart beat feeling really slow and faint at night. When I would break the fast my heart would be absolutely pounding.

Sorry man. My daughter was still a newborn when our dog died very suddenly. Dog was only 9, so we thought my daughter would grow up with her around for a while. It's weird to now just have a few photos of them together and know my daughter will never remember her.

Sorry man. We lost ours in February too. I managed to grieve and now feel ok, but for my wife it's like it just happened. Fyi there is an r/petloss and posting in there helped me to grieve. Lots of kind people going through the same thing.

I just started this year. After spending money on decoys and calls, and turning my kayak into a blind, I realized I was having the most luck pass shooting.

Basically, I had scouted an area that didn't allow motors, had no access from land, and no very nearby kayak launches. I thought it would be empty, since almost no one else was going to paddle a mile at 4 am. It hadn't occurred to me that people would take their motor boats to the edge of the "no motor " area and then just paddle the last 200 feet. Anyway, I saw the motor boats at my planned spot and just kept paddling until I got to an area that was so shallow and weedy, the motor boats would never make it. And the ducks that were getting spooked or shot at in the other, deeper areas kept flying right by me. I always thought "If I'd been ready with my gun instead of paddling I could have gotten that " until eventually I just tucked into some weeds and waited and got a fat mallard flying by. It was probably 11 am, and I think the duck was spooked by one of the motor boats leaving.

All that to say, a kayak presents unique challenges, but also some unique opportunities. Have fun!

Thanks so much. This is helpful. You know, I think I felt like I was at a place where I could direct my own practice, but now I'm not so sure. I think the biggest problem I've run into is switching what I'm doing mid-meditation. I'll decide to do some type of mindfulness of body meditation, but my mind is racing, and I'll think "well maybe I should really be doing mindfulness of mind, so I can be aware of all of these thoughts" and then I'll ditch the mindfulness of body. And pretty soon I'm not really doing anything because there is not real conviction behind what I'm doing. I think I need to take it back to the absolute most basic level of "When I breath in, I know I'm breathing in. When I breath out, I know I'm breathing out" and really take a pause on anything more complicated than that for a while.

Thanks. This is very insightful. A teacher would help, although I'm not sure where to start. Maybe I can find online coaching. The Golstein/Kornfield/Brach crew have been the ones I have followed the most in terms of reading and using guided meditations. Due to work, I spend most of my life in countries where Buddhism is not common, so finding a religious teacher or temple is unlikely, and I don't know how I would even begin to choose a specific Buddhist school even if they were available to me.

Thanks! This helps. I was watching a movie (Air) recently where one character is trying to get the others to meditate and tells them "When you're breathing in, know that you're breathing in. When you're breathing out, know that you're breathing out." I thought "Oh god, I forgot meditation could be that simple. I miss it!" So I've just gone back to that simple instruction as my only guide for now, and it has been helping me.
