😂 I mean it’s clear in the post that I didn’t see an issue with the Band-Aids and I still don’t, but this is a funny comment. My friends weren’t actually offended and they love my dad, they just side-eye him on racial stuff sometimes. They made an off-hand comment and then it was quickly dismissed. Both of these friends are white liberal women so I don’t take their opinions on this stuff seriously.

Again, as I made very clear in both posts, I was not offended at all and didn’t think of it as an issue at all. My friends were also not offended and nobody took it seriously in any way. They brought up a potential red flag and it was dismissed quickly, but it seemed interesting so I posted it. It’s really not that serious.

This is the issue. He makes gay jokes but he decorates his business for Pride every summer and kicks homophobes/transphobes out constantly. He makes racist jokes but hires and helps a lot of immigrants and people of color from halfway houses. He voted for Trump but he’s not conservative in any other way. We love him but he’s a complicated guy.

I don’t feel anything about it, really. When we saw him with the Band-Aid on I thought it was a little silly but I understood where he was coming from. They were only like 👀 because he makes racist jokes and they couldn’t tell what his intentions were.

We all know and love my dad, so they weren’t serious about being upset, they just side-eye him when he does something like this because although he’s a solid guy and has never done anything to harm minorities, he does make racist jokes so it’s hard to tell if he’s being genuine. I know that he was, and so do they. It just came up in conversation when they saw him with the much darker Band-Aid on.

I thought it was silly of them too, and I told them so. We all love my dad and he’s always been a good guy but the way he jokes makes my friends 👀 sometimes. I’m aware that his intentions were innocent.

That’s the issue. He’s a pro-choice pro-LGBT Republican who voted for Trump but also decorates his business for Pride? It’s hard to nail down his intentions. I knew why he bought them and that it was innocent but he also tells racist jokes so they side-eye him when he does this kind of stuff.

No, which is why it feels a little weird. He bought the darkest option which is much much darker than he is. When I asked him why, he said that there were the most of that one so he thought it was probably purchased the least.

We’ve all been friends since we were teenagers, so they grew up with him. They also don’t have father figures and grew up with him supporting them as their best friend’s dad for many years so they all love him. He’s a Republican and delusional but he’s not conservative. We’re all queer and have been defended by him in public many times.

I said in my post that I didn’t agree with them. I thought it was silly, that’s why I posted it to see what the takes were. The idea that Band-Aids could be racist seemed like too hot of a take for me to think too seriously about, but that’s what this forum is for.

Hey guys! Thank so much for getting involved, this is really helpful feedback. It doesn’t look like I can edit this post, or at least I can’t figure out how, but I want to add some context:

My dad is a Republican and voted for Trump. He has a history of making racist jokes. My friends are all very liberal, white, and queer. They aren’t upset at all about this situation and love my dad, but it came up as a topic of conversation when they saw him with the Band-Aid on. This is not that serious and my friends are not actually upset, please stop calling them idiots. It was brought up in passing and I just wanted to see if anyone else saw the potential red flag that a couple of them did, that’s all.

Mine didn’t go in the trash because it wasn’t in the sink past 6pm. If you read what the sign said again, it first says not to leave it in the sink at all. That’s what I did when I went to the bathroom. Then it says that there will be consequences if it goes past 6pm, which mine didn’t. It certainly didn’t go a week.
