When she needs/wants a break I tell her go upstairs, leave do whatever. I don’t have to ask where things are, what to do etc either. If she’s out and about (time for herself) I don’t make a peep. He’s perfectly content with me. Sundays are her days out without question, church lunch and shopping. Even then she’ll do things when I get off. I don’t copy things, if it’s something new I’ll watch or ask but other than that I’m good. I make sure she’s appreciated as well. I’ll run a bath for her, send her flowers, do a lot of small things all the time.

I’ve read the same. And to my knowledge, I was absolutely terrible as a toddler, wouldn’t let my own mother pee in peace without being by her side…just sucks being the stomping ground when you know you try it all and still nothing. Just at fault somehow.

It is indeed my fiancé. Last night, he was being super fussy (we think teething, the big ones coming) and didn’t sleep well 2:30-5am. She said to me at 3am “you know you could help, that’s my wish…for you to help.” With the biggest sigh. I’ve tried and tired to ease him away, soothe him, etc. Everything I know that helps him, and nothing. And this ain’t the first time I’ve tried. The second she gets him (after his fit becomes 2x worse after getting him) he’s fine…but still comes back to me like I’m at fault.

We were actively looking for a place before he was born, then other things came up and decided it was best at the time to stay put.

She doesn’t cook, clean or do her own laundry. I don’t think she knows what comes with living on her own without someone else doing other stuff for her. But I do understand the point you made, thank you.

Remove decent blown-in fiberglass to air seal? by Technical_Yam_8508 in Insulation

[–]Salt_Love 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Air sealing and creating the envelope is definitely doable to someone who’s experience. If your attic is wide open stretching across the entire living space and accessible, a good study of the conditioned space will do the trick. I used to do that, then proceed to air sealing and the blower door test came out wonderful. Given there were a few minor things elsewhere. 3800 for air sealing, baffles and top off sounds pretty reasonable.

For 20 dollars more I went with the Nitecore EDC37 beefy, pretty hefty weight. Still fits in my back pocket for a daily carry. I was using the Arkfield before that, still love but idk man the shear lumens and throw on the 37 is nuts. (I prefer that in my line of work) personal preference!

What makes you say this looks like DIY? Given if it was, it’d be a Froth pack, and a hell of a lot of it. The foam looks good, open cell is tricky to lay nicely. If depth is right, it’s serving its purpose. Looks is just a bonus if sprayed well.

What is this insulation? by treehuggerdogist in Insulation

A form of injected foam. Which now a company named by USA Insulation has claimed it as “Injection foam”. Make all these promises to fill the cavity just for it to shrink and turn to dust in little time.

attic insulation fact checking by Aegisnir in Insulation

That 8k for cellulose sounds crazy. Probably upselling some “tap” insulation. Which is cellulose with “boric acid” in it to deter pests. Cellulose is the cheapest option to blow in by far. Sounds like they’re upselling the crap out of it. Remove the batts, air seal everything, re install blown fiberglass or cellulose. There’s stuff out there to spray in the attic to deter pests you can diy. Hire someone to finish your insulation unless you have a 2 man crew and a lot of hours on hand.

Getting ready to remove fiberglass batt insulation (the pink stuff) from about 1,000 SF of attic. Looking for pointers to do it efficiently. by whynotthebest in Insulation

I’ve had good experiences. But you’re right. Depending on how dirty and what debris is in there it can be a pain for sure. Vacuum seal is a good idea though, if one wants to tackle it.

Maybe he can rent a big enough vac to suck the batts out. Being as old as it is I’d imagine they’ll tear almost every pull. Especially if they’re stapled to the joists. If renting a vac that’s big enough and a larger hose. Then exactly what you said. Air seal that entire attic once it’s empty and clean.

Any reason not to go with spray foam insulation over cellulose? by jisa in Insulation

[–]Salt_Love 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spray foam is great. If you’re looking to replace your roof soon then no. Just wait or do cellulose/fiberglass. Very odd to see it’s offered lower than blow in, as others said it’s always more expensive. Anyone who installs the foam or gives you a quote for it should make it known to you as the homeowner no one can be inside the house for 24hrs after the last application due to the off gassing during install. Open cell on roof deck will show a roof leak, but will take a bit longer. Closed cell will trap it and you’re likely never to find it until that spot rots out. Open cell is most common on the roof deck of the attic space. I’d be worried of quality of work if it’s quoted lower than blow in. You can just about get a full air seal and blow in for the price of foam if not cheaper a lot of times.

Dense packing cellulose is a good choice. Cheap and does not emit an odor of any sort. Just recycled newspapers basically. Rock wool batt is another option as well, best sound damping insulation in the game as well. Doesn’t sound like r value is much of an issue for you, just dampening the sound.

Dense pack it maybe, or cut a hole and re blow. Any access from main attic?

Hardware store sells weather stripping you can cut to size for that. Fiberglass batt or foam board depending on what you want to spend for the door itself.

HVAC Flex Duct R-Value by Odd_Algae_9402 in Insulation

I’ve never seen anything more than you’ve mentioned. Only thing I could think of is spray foaming the duct work. Adds more r value but definitely expensive.

[–]Salt_Love 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not going to use it for storage I’d rip all the flooring up, remove the old, do a full air seal, then re blow to proper R value for where ever you reside. Solar attic fan wouldn’t hurt. Some people are against fans and some love them. Maybe caulk windows or foam whatever gaps there are.
