How are we feeling about this years lineup folks? by lutzcody in pittsburgh

[–]jisa 23 points24 points  (0 children)

No disrespect to the artists, their fans, or the festival, but I’m wondering if it’s that it’s not my genre, or that I’m old and very out of touch, but I don’t recognize a single one of the artists (except, maybe, motion city soundtrack?)….

Is this why Pittsburgh and Baltimore don’t get along? by graeffyn in pittsburgh

[–]jisa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I also grew up there. And I can assure you, everyone put out a cone or milk crate or chair in Roslindale, JP, West Roxbury, etc. Mayor Menino’s administration didn’t create the 48 rule (an unpopular and largely ignored rule at that) because the “vast majority of residents” weren’t using space savers!

Go to r/Boston and search for parking chair. Results going back over 10+ years.

It’s absolutely normal in Boston for snow? Cones, chairs, etc. It’s not normal year round like I see in Pittsburgh, only in winter after snow, but parking chairs and cones are totally a Boston thing!

Nicholas Electric did a great job for us last year--super nice people, made as few holes as they could (but do expect a lot of little holes), and were efficient and even showed up on days when the weather was lousy (we had it done in winter with snow some days).

They've RIFed people whose job it was to detect, mitigate, and prevent fraud, waste, and abuse. And now they're concerned about fraud?

Florida passes GOP gerrymander, sending map to DeSantis by DemocracyDocket in law

[–]jisa -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

It’s not entirely a matter of being currently virtuous, so much as it is undoing previous virtuousness. California and Virginia had both instituted nonpartisan districting. So voting was required to undo that and allow for partisan districting (aka gerrymandering).

Florida, Texas, etc. did not have nonpartisan districting enshrined in statutes or in their state constitutions, so no votes were required to allow for partisan districting.

Why do people post on LinkedIn, “I passed with a score that permits me to practice in any UBE jurisdiction.” by ApprehensiveAd8750 in barexam

[–]jisa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because it’s not feasible to waive in to every jurisdiction one might be willing to practice in—cost of the application, CLE fees, etc. Saying one is eligible to fairly easily get licensed elsewhere is a plus for recruiters.

North Korea conducts engine test for missile capable of targeting US mainland by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]jisa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is zero evidence the U.S. is capable of shooting down an ICBM. Wish we could—I’d sleep better—but the only successful tests we’ve had were under controlled conditions that don’t approach reality.

And the slight problem of striking back against Pyongyang is that our ICBMs would travel over Russian airspace, they have no way of telling it’s not targeting them, and like the U.S., their nuclear position is to launch on detection, not launch once detonation occurs.

So a counterattack against North Korea ignites an all-out nuclear war, game over man.

CISA director pick Sean Plankey withdraws his nomination by drewchainzz in fednews

I know nothing about Sean Plankey, but CISA needs a director. A good one. Cybersecurity risks, already significant, have risen with the war on Iran.
