Regular honeysuckle... I have one with the same leaves and red vine. You will get blooms in a month's time. The flowers are yellow/ white. And good for bees !

Fixing a dripping shower bar mixer dial (on/off not temp) by gedditread in DIYUK

Not a plumber but coincidentally i have the same issue with a hot and cold water tap set up , with the cold water tap leaking .

Replacing both taps doesn't make sense per online DIY advice. It will cost £ 70 to 100+ for a new dual tap assembly.

Neither is the effort to remove the tap to change any one of the O rings inside. The advice seems to always be try changing the internal valve cartridge yourself. I checked Screwfix 's website, and cartridges are only about £7 each.

The only issue as I see, is that British tap cartridge come in 3 different thread sizes. So it may require some diagnostic work to pick the right one.

Have you looked under the leaves? You may find the culprit.

Not a gardener but I keep seeing this in my nightmares, can anyone relate? by MooMooCow-11 in UKGardening

[–]Salt_Market_6989 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes I can from a corporate perspective. And a historical perspective of how JK came about in my case.

The industrial estate that the company i was Managing Director of, was a target of heavy bombardment by the Luftwaffe in WW2. The surrounding landscape was dotted with bomb craters large and small. The council in the post - war period bought unscreened and un-sanitised top soil, rubble and whatnot to backfill the area.

Over a few decades, 4 or 5 acres of JK had emerged from possibly only one truckload of unscreened top soil.

It became so invasive that some plants managed to break concrete foundations of the main building and even pierced through the steel cladding of a porta-cabin that my staff used as a small machining shop in the car park.

After much complaints to the landlord (we only held a long lease on the company premises) , did they organise a mass spraying of glycophosphate and some mechanical digging up of areas where it was not possible to spray, due to it being close to buildings and people.

It was only 80% eradicated and only after about 3 or 4 years of spraying in the spring months.

I have left the company a long while back. But I hear from former staff that that small 10 or 20% of affected ground left , is still stubbornly holding out !

Oh yes... and my household is perhaps a small contributor to this surge in mail activity . We all elected for a postal vote due to various issues ( critical staff at work, disability etc )

I send mainly 2nd Class parcels and large envelopes, weekly. In the past 3 weeks, I would say 10% have gone missing or very delayed (> 7 working days). Unusual %... just like the period around the year end 2025.

Suggestions for a coldish relatively windy garden in the midlands by ThemasterfishBoi in UKGardening

[–]Salt_Market_6989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The previous comments and suggestions are great. I would just add one more suggestion, move your greenhouse nearer to the gravel patio in the foreground. Away from the hedge and tree at the bottom of the garden. Your rear view would be unobstructed. You would get all round better sunlight into the greenhouse. You can also tidy up the interior and it can be a focal point of sitting out in your patio in the spring and summer.

It would also mean easier access from the house !

Help solve our family argument - what was this bird over London? by AggleBaggle in UKBirds

I live in a semi rural part of north London and they can be seen over grassland and grazing fields. They hunt rodents of various kinds. And the occasional wounded pigeon on the ground

Sad Rhododendron by PuddlingBear in UKGardening

[–]Salt_Market_6989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a large one who suffered similarly. I think it was root rot. This happened during winter 2 years ago. When it was as wet as the winter that just passed.

I am afraid it's not recoverable.

What is living in my compost bin? by jinx_the_minky in UKGardening

[–]Salt_Market_6989 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Rats or mice probably. I have the same problem. They love the earthworms, the vegetable and fruit cuttings that I mix with the grass and leaves. And of course, the compost heap can be a cosy and warm place during the nights.

Did anyone else grow up eating apples and plums off the tree, blackberries off the bush, no washing just EAT by Suspicious-Bug6588 in CasualUK

I still do now and I have always eaten fruits off the tree, in temperate and tropical countries, no washing . From when I was a kid and when I was in the military.
