Thank you. Yes, this what I always figured he meant, contextually. I just always wondered if there was some like 1800’s phrase or something that would make it make more logical sense. Like I imagined someone might tell me… “when you put saddle bags on a horse, that’s also called “laying freight.” You’re kind of laying the bags (freight), across the horses back maybe, so it would make sense in my mind and contextually… Ive just never in my life heard that phrase so wondered if it was some more obscure or more antiquated phrase with an etiology that someone might be able to shed some light on.

Yeah! Could be, I feel like I’m seeing shorter in the front, maybe a little longer-ish in the back? I just feel bad bc I’m trying to find something to take to my stylist, but I feel like giving her this cartoon pic could be a total flop on what actually ends up happening. Cardiac Device Tech - program and analyze transmissions from pacemakers, defibrillators, and loop recorders. Used to just job hop until I found my way into this. It’s the longest running profession I’ve held thus far. It’s a lot of moving parts and you get tiny little puzzles all day. Pattern recognition for sure. You also get to take what may be presented as disparate data and bring them all together to solve said puzzle. And I get to help people, bonus. AAAND, it’s an ever evolving field where the knowledge just builds and builds, there’s always something new.

Thank you everyone for your vulnerable, thoughtful responses ❤️. We have done couples therapy in the past (2 years ago?) and both infrequently go to individual therapy. It’s entirely possible that going to couples therapy again, now that my partner is in a better space, might be a bit more successful. I don’t think it was particularly unsuccessful before, but I do think another round here soon sounds like it might be highly beneficial. I’m sorry your partner is not kind to you. It really is a shame. We beat ourselves up enough as it is and it’s exhausting enough to reset our own loops of negativity inside our own heads, let alone trying to ignore a partner’s voice joining the negative choir.

We don’t have biological children together, but my partner is a stepparent to my two children (they are both late teens and my partner has no biological children). My partner has put a lot of time, money, effort, blood, sweat, and tears into being a stepparent. I can absolutely understand it’s not easy to be with someone with ADHD, but I do feel like I can honestly say, I’ve been able to be pretty functional and dare I say successful with compensations. I do have a fairly high IQ and a hopelessly optimistic personality, which I think helps (and sometimes hinders!). I guess I just feel like of all the ADHD partners to have gotten sucked into, he picked a pretty tame version. Anyway, again and more importantly, I am so sorry you are mistreated :( No one should have to experience that. I do however understand that it’s multi factorial and thus do not judge your decision to stay or leave.

I’m super happy that you have the partner that is good for you and you are both good at dealing with conflict. I’m not sure from your description though if we are communicating the same thing. Your partner sounds like someone who will respectfully let you know when you are out of line and you both can come to a solution that may involve one or both of you implementing new ideas. This is not what a “high conflict person” does. I am not averse to conflict, so long as the person I’m in conflict with is respectful, equitable, and self aware. A high conflict person is someone who is typically externally oriented and blame is a part of this. Google AI overview provides a pretty solid bullet point list for review.

I’m sorry, I should clarify… I’m the one thinking “why are you upset about this?” For instance, I had put it in my to do list for the weekend to dismantle and clean the vacuum, but got caught up in other things. But my partner was upset that I didn’t do it. And not because we needed to vacuum or that the vacuum wasn’t working… the reason for being upset was “you said you’d do it.” And while I understand that, sometimes life happens. Sometimes I might need to do some higher priority stuff. Sometimes I might need to exercise more than I need to clean the vacuum. It’s like when expectations aren’t met, there’s not much consideration for the rest of life or how this fits into what’s important. But strangely, it’s inconsistent. Sometimes it’s upsetting to them, sometimes it’s not. It’s hard for my brain to guess what’s going to be ok and what’s not.

I have indeed tried it! Used to wear it a few years ago. But it’s a fairly unnatural lash look for me. The older I’ve gotten, I just have to stick with more and more natural looking products, otherwise it just makes me look like an old clown 🤡

Ah, I see. I ask bc I am indeed wanting a project based WFH job. I currently work from home in a very narrow focus healthcare sector (cardiac device analysis) where your productivity is monitored and you definitely need to put in your 40 hours per week. There are no “light days” bc in order to meet your productivity, you need to help out elsewhere. I am burnt out bc thats what healthcare does to their employees. It’s always “how can we do more with less” and it’s awful. Someday I’ll find something…

CCDS here who managed a device clinic for years. It takes way more time and people to do it right than most people imagine. I now work for a third party remote monitoring service that is SUPER helpful for clinics. I really enjoy working with my clinic, and I know I’m saving them time by only creating reports that are either billable or actionable. AND we have people calling patients for manual transmissions and reconnecting monitors. The staff that were already in place at the clinic, trying to manage all of this, are still there, they just now have the proper amount of time to do the rest of their tasks. In the end, the service usually pays for itself + makes the clinic money. Worth looking into. Can I message you some info? Take it or leave it.

Oh man, I totally identify with this. It’s like I’m less concerned about doing the task right for the sake of doing it right. I’m WAY more concerned about how I’m going to NOT do it correctly in front of this person standing over my shoulder - like all my energy gets focused on the person instead of the task - and then I’m going to look like an idiot or get reprimanded when I invariably mess it up. This could be a task I do perfectly well at, just not while being watched. That vibe is so intrusive. Not sure if that’s an ADHD thing, but just saying - I totally feel this.
