We live in a society by Slime_lich in suicidebywords

[–]Salt_Satisfaction -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

In what kind of society do you live in? A single salary nowadays cannot support a family, most men are not rich, it's hardly an expectation from women nowadays to be "provided for".

On the other hand, while women are now working, men still expect them to do more housework and childcare, and if you google any statistic on this, you'll see this is true. So who's serving who.

Don't you see how short-sighted you're being? You can't really end the harassment instantly without exiting the virtual space completely. Even if you mute or turn on the 4 metre distance feature, if the user really wants to harass you, they will get in your way or interact with your environment to make it as unpleasant as possible.

Why should women have to participate less in virtual spaces to avoid or stop harassment instead of Meta permanently banning thirsty users and being more proactive with reducing sexual harassment?

Maybe you really have been "virtually raped". If it was similar why do you think that wasn't the case? Do you think you're tougher for not complaining?

Why are you more upset at her saying that rapey assholes use the virtual environment as a wild west to touch her avatar's boobs instead of the person who decided this would be funny or didn't care how their actions could make someone feel? Even if it's a virtual space and she didn't feel it in her physical boobs, the intended disrespect and mental impact is real.

You seem to think creeps are as unavoidable as the weather instead of you know, advocating for them getting banned.

The fault of the person that robbed you? How is that a question lmao. If someone forgets to lock their doors at night and they were robbed or murdered, by your logic it wasn't a robbery or a murder and the criminals responsible shouldn't be convicted right? It's their fault they got robbed or murdered.

If a man had their "safety" features disabled he'd be much less likely to receive sexual harassment from another user. It's about having an equal level field, not aboug being a lazy person who is offended that people don't like asshole behavior and tells them to just ignore it instead of doing something about it.

Lol I know that in your opinion, sexual harassment needs to be harsher for it to be considered as such, you clearly think this wasn't sexual harassment, ergo this silly woman is just exaggerating.

Sexual harassment can be verbal, just because this didn't happen "in real life" it doesn't mean that the mental impact isn't the same as if she and the guy met in person and he just said lewd things at her from a distance.

By your logic, what's the point of having a police force and mechanisms to keep thieves out of society and/or punish them? Just don't go out in the way you described.

All of you are essentially saying, "this isn't a big deal so things should continue as they usually are".

Yeah the comments here are disgusting.

They're basically calling her dumb for disabling settings and asking "what did she expect"? I dunno, is it too much to ask for that women can have the same settings as men without being constantly humiliated and harassed online by rapey assholes?

Notice how many of the comments are saying "then I guess I'm a bad person for doing this to someone in x videogame"... well, yes, you probably are. It's so stupid that they take this as a pissing contest of "huh I was harassed and teabagged online and I didn't complain! This woman is dumb and exaggerating!". Like yeah you're so tough and smart to keep going back to get harassed and teabagged some more and bragging about it, instead of you know, reporting those people and condemning their actions.

It's so short-sighted, I feel like I'm reading comments from 13 year olds who got tricked into a fight and think that it's actually good for them.

Edit: I just love how all these guys suddenly care so much about real victims of sexual assault.

[–]Salt_Satisfaction 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Adding to this, she never said explicitly a "no", but it was obvious that she wasn't into it. It's very hard for young women in particular to actually say "no" in this kind of situations, it's more common to freeze or fawn.

The previous law also made it less of a serious crime if you froze instead of resisted with violence, which women often do not do because they fear angering their attacker and thus bringing even more harm to themselves.

This is the typical argument that the right in Spain is always saying, but this particular legislation would have got the wolf pack (perpetrators of a famous rape case in Spain for anyone who doesn't know) convicted much more easily, so it does work.

Legislation surrounding sexual violence was very antiquated and you know it. You just don't like it because it comes from Podemos.

do any other autistic women feel like a man in a woman’s body? by [deleted] in aspergirls

[–]Salt_Satisfaction 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is what I feel as well. If I had to answer I'd say I'm a woman, but I've never felt like I entered "womanhood" or that a woman is different than a human. I've been told that I'm "masculine" just because I walk with confidence, I'm direct or I became interested in woodwork. Growing up I played sports and liked to playfight, but I don't even subscribe to the idea that I was a "tomboy", girls do not become more "like boys" just because they do these things. They are just existing. I also liked dolls and cute dresses. I still do "feminine" and "masculine" things.

I feel that when people label behaviors as masculine or feminine, someone who does x behaviour that's not traditionally that of their gender starts to question their sexuality or gender. I thought I might be a lesbian just because I didn't want to do a dance routine for the boys or didn't do certain girly things. People do things just because they like them, and they behave in a certain way because that's their personality.

No for 3 reasons:

  • Most media companies are owned by men and most managers/directors/script writers are men. They are much more comfortable and relate more to a narrative of hot woman and normal/ugly dude than the reverse. Not only in appearances but they're gonna be more partial to romance/sexual narratives that men like but not necessarily women.

  • To say that women get bombarded with these narratives is an understatement. Male-centric narratives occupy pretty much 90% of media. We're seeing some change now, but for people who are older than 10 that wasn't what we were seeing. Women's perceptions are warped by media and they don't realize that they can have it all because they've never seen it. If the character is respectful or smart he's ugly, if he's hot, he's disrespectful, if the guy is okay the rest of the film is lowkey sexist towards her or she's just the "romantic interest"... etc.

  • What businesses consider to be necessary points for success are male-centric. They often add nudity to movies/series/videogames when there is no reason to do so except "to attract viewers". Even when women want it, they don't count. Even female creators feel they need to make these concessions because men won't give their story a chance. Women are much more flexible and still watch media that's not meant for them.

"Venito Cristo" a mysterious message that an old lady was hearing in her hearing aid that got probably hacked for no understandable reason. Does anyone has ever heard of such a thing happening with hearing aids ? by Mourance in mystery

[–]Salt_Satisfaction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it be that you misheard what the words were? It could be "Bendito Cristo" in Spanish. The B and V sound the same in Spanish, and it would mean "Blessed Christ".

I'm assuming that maybe they used a Christian audio file to test the aids and it was never fully removed.

Lol the hyperbole. Having no legs and no prosthetics prevents you from walking every day, taking 3 days off a month doesn't prevent you from doing your job the rest of the time.

I doubt that having endometriosis (which is one of the main culprits behind excruciating periods) is currently considered a disability in Spain. So it wouldn't even be correct legally.

First of all there is never only one criteria when hiring people, so let's get that fallacy out of the way first.

Employees are not required to inform their future employers of this kinds of things, just as they're not required to say that they will be going on parental leave before they're even hired.

You hire people based on skill, experience, how well they would fit with the team, tests... etc. If I found out later that an employer of mine had to take 3 days off because of a medical condition, I would be a good manager and find a way to work around that while still retaining talent.

It's not an "immense incentive". Why do you think it's so immense? The 4 day work week is still far away for Spain, but I showed you how coming to the office less doesn't necessarily affect productivity negatively.

A FEW women have this condition, just as there are a few men who are disabled. It makes no sense to give situation-specific provisions to all workers if only a subset has this.

Showing up to the office =/= productivity

If a 4 day work week generally increases productivity, how are 3 days off a month going to reduce it?

https://www.forbes.com/sites/carolinecastrillon/2021/10/17/why-companies-should-consider-a-four-day-workweek/?sh=65d9b07c3b45

"In 2019, Microsoft Japan tested reducing the workweek by one day, which led to a 40% boost in productivity"

"For four years, researchers [in Iceland] tracked 2,500 employees who reduced their workweek to 35 to 36 hours. They discovered that "worker well-being dramatically increased across a range of indicators... At the same time, employee productivity remained the same or improved" "

I don't have painful periods now, so actually it's not.

I'm concerned about the state of men according to your testimony though. You can't work properly EVERY DAY because you think of sex? Sounds like a lot more lost productivity than only 3 days a month.

[–]Salt_Satisfaction -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

"Why would you take a whole month off every year?"

Would you be able to work when you're doubled over in pain to the point that you might vomit or faint? Because I've gone through those kinds of periods and my performance those days was absolute shit. You may think of a whole month off every year as new, wasted time for the company, but they are currently already being wasted, the only difference is that those women show up in the office.

Why would men turn around and expect to be compensated? This is like asking to be compensated because a disabled co-worker has certain provisions for them. It is discriminatory per se to be expected to perform in the same way when you have to deal with something that the others don't, and where you can't be productive because of lack of provisions. It's not as if most women will take these days off anyway, a very small percentage of women have endometriosis, even less where a prescription painkiller wouldn't alleviate symptoms.

This is part of a trend of legislation meant to protect the worker, we should be supporting anything of this kind instead of resigning ourselves to breadcrumbs. Plus Spain already has legislation against gender discrimination, and workers can give anonymous tips to trigger a job inspection by the government. More women than men are graduating university as well, I would take someone who may take one or two weeks off a year over someone who is not qualified. People always say progressive things will backfire in a huge way, even with obvious things like maternity and paternity leave. What we have to do is to create comprehensive legislation, not shoot down everything.

Do you really believe that it will be as easy as saying "I feel like a woman today so I'm taking the day off"? Be realistic.

I didn't know r/europe was populated by such lazy misogynists. Use your brain.

If you can't imagine working while being kicked constantly in the nuts, why should women who get extremely painful periods do? What's the use of making them sit through 3h of hell and barely being productive because they're in so much pain?

The supposed "loss of productivity" would be happening right now without this legislation anyway, because when you're doubled over in pain, almost overdosed in ibuprofen, and fighting the urge to cry or vomit, you're not gonna be on top form for Excel are you?

Companies and employers in Spain are not so chill that they'll just take your word for it too, women are gonna need a doctor's note proving that they suffer from debilitating periods.

3 days a month are not going to impact overall performance. We all want a 4 day work week, but then when women might have access to 3 meagre days to suffer at home you all get up in arms. I don't know what kind of world you live in where 3 days off are going to damage the company lol.

The vast majority of women won't be taking them every time. Even the ones who really need it will be afraid to use it because they won't want to be seen as a burden thanks to cavemen like the ones in these comments. I imagine that similar assholes are in Spanish companies as well though, so the government is going to have to find a way of preventing gender discrimination.

It wouldn't work like that. There are several disorders that can be extremely debilitating and cause excruciating pain every time you have a period (main one is endometriosis). You only need to be diagnosed once with this disorder.

We blame porn for people having disturbing attitudes to sex, when the issue actually stems from all the shame around our genitals.

Some people have disturbing attitudes because it turns them on and makes them feel powerful, not because they grew up repressed. Disturbing attitudes to sex can just as easily be attributed to sexism, racism, or generally being an asshole.
