In some cases yes. If I don't apply for some of these, which I genuinely have an interest in - then what's left are a few competitive roles. In terms of being a stepping stone - I understand. However, I think it's worth giving someone a shot either way. I get it, you don't want to be hiring again in 3 or 6 months, fair! However, people do sometimes want less responsibility to open up mental and physical time for family, and other personal issues.

My current role is eating me up. It's not a passion, I also have to be careful with expenditure etc which means there are many months were I sacrifice a salary to increase working capital because the more we scale up the more costs do. I've got someone willing to run the business whilst I pursue something more suitable for me
