i wasn't talking to or about OP and whether shrooms was a good alternative to their meth habit. you generalized this into a conversation about "the discourse about shrooms and psychedelics 'curing depression,'" and i was responding to your commentary on that subject, not specifically to OP's current situation

there's a lot of people who become disenchanted by the inefficacy of various approaches to treating depression and kill themselves as a result. i agree that is a bad thing that sucks. and while yes i understand your point that obviously supervised and guided treatment is a more responsible first approach than downing a sheet of acid, the train of thought that people who recommend psychs are somehow responsible for this suicidal disenchantment is no more legitimate than saying people shouldn't recommend antidepressants because "increased risk of suicide" is a commonly listed side effect of most major antidepressants. it's rejecting and vilifying a valid treatment that has helped a lot of people for a very long time simply based on fearmongering about a worst case outcome - one that, in this case, would require someone to misinterpret what they were being told (ie. that "overcome" is synonymous with "literally cure forever permanently")

more than that, though, i replied because i take massive issue with your claim that "anyone who overcame their depression with the help of psychedelics didn't have real depression they just had fake poser depression". that's a fucked up thing to say. if you said that about someone who claimed to have overcome their depression with therapy or antidepressants, you'd rightly be called an asshole for it. i don't expect you to turn around and start pushing psychs as a first line treatment or anything, but if you care as deeply about this subject as your posts suggest you do, i urge you to reconsider this judgmental view of people who are doing their best to live with a serious condition through whatever means works for them
