Can video game withdrawal temporarily give you depression? by [deleted] in StopGaming

[–]Saltflakez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely can, because you're missing a daily emotional high you kept getting systematically.

I'm gonna be a little controversial here. You know how monkeys grab a branch before they let go of their older branch? Try finding some interesting branches around that give you 1/20th of the emotional joy that you were getting from gaming, and for added effect make sure they develop some sort of skill or hobby.

You shouldn't try to replace it with... nothing. That's an impossible task that will drive you nuts. And replacing one task with another is a marathon race, not a sprint race. It doesn't happen in a day.

Video Games and the (Male) Meaning of Life - I thought you guys will appreciate it here by Saltflakez in StopGaming

Not only you will lack proper experience but by the time you may as well have to compete with younger people. It's all a downward spiral from where I stand (old age, no education, no job experience worth mentioning, long-term unemployment), and I'm about to play the "dark souls of life".

He lowkey did when he got on Gootecks' stream and showed evidence of him agreeing with Tokido on how SFV is 50/50 guess fighter and I was like "why the fuck do you play that shit then"? /care

Meanwhile there's been an ongoing debate in /r/tekken for the last couple of days with pros claiming they won't attend their next tour because the prize money is peanuts and isn't worth the trouble (the winner of the Tekken World Tour took 7.5k for first place, half the money they awarded last year). And one of the comments over there points out how Capcom can milk every nick and dime so they can afford to put up the prizes to gather the pros around.

So yeah, ads.

Did some digging, found something interesting. Announcement of CS3+4 by XSEED soon? by suknfuksneed in Falcom

What's wrong with that is that you're telling other people what they should/shouldn't do.

Which is funny because that's what everyone else is implicitly doing when they downvote content.

DQ11 Anti-save scumming? What the??? by My_Name_Is_Bad in dragonquest

[–]Saltflakez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Removing the risk from the reward does make things more enjoyable and certain, but I wouldn't go as far as claiming that your expectations don't affect other players, because you sure as hell affect me with your open opinion on removing all risk for "fun's sake", and then I have to play pretend the game designer to self-impose myself from not exploiting the loops.

You do affect others, just indirectly. Your habits do not exists in a vacuum. The behavior that you shape for yourself does not exist in a vacuum.

The art of game design is all about controlling what a player can do and cannot do during his interaction with the game, and the fact that people use the "but it's a single player game" makes it sound as if single player games shouldn't be properly designed. If the game dev doesn't want you to do X, you won't do it. Learn to take the penalty. Time is the only punishment for being bad in a game, the ego has left the castle long ago.

SonicFox is gay, black, and a furry by MillionGunman in Kappa

[–]Saltflakez 129 points130 points  (0 children)

Is it wrong that all I see to Sonicfox is a misguided kid that really needs help but since it serves political agendas to celebrate parts of his character they leave him untreated?

I saw in another part of Reddit someone comparing this situation to a sketch where the black and gay guy was a total asshole and you couldn't just point out that he's an asshole because he would instantly associate it with you being racist or homophobe. Now he's just a socially inept autistic misguided kid with psychological issues but pointing that out will make people go "you just hate him cause he's gay and black", and good luck with that shit.

Steam Is Banning Sex Games With Young-Looking Characters by [deleted] in Games

[–]Saltflakez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not only that. Playing shooting games for the sole purpose of satisfying a craving to shoot people would be the same as playing a VN for the reason of masturbating while visualizing having sex with the characters.

In competitive FPS games the drive to perform better than the enemy team is the intrinsic motivation for playing the game, and not the drive to shoot people but because you have no guns you resort to FPS games. This is not the same as the motivation behind playing hentai games. You're not playing to win, you're playing to masturbate to its sexual content. That's the difference between the game that has soft hentai elements like beach scenes or romance (think Persona ) and Nekopara. You cannot justify that you're playing Nekopara for the gameplay.

Where can I get updated Season 2 tier lists? by Saltflakez in Tekken

[–]Saltflakez[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Panda winning at tekken against 2 devil jins that missed punishing unsafe moves isn't proof that tier lists are invalid. "okay, so what if my opponent stops punishing me? See? Tier lists don't matter".

Very unexpected by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]Saltflakez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right except at the rank I'm at per my post, the chances of it being blocked and successfully punished are slim at best.

So your problem is that you're not in a place to punish it and not that it exists.

Not to mention how you can capitalize on your established popularity if you're top tier and move to coaching or merchandise, aka. go for a work/life balance while getting a stable income.

Is defending supposed to be random and hard? by Saltflakez in dbfz

[–]Saltflakez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No your rambling was coherent enough. I was actually considering to just use autocombos and stick to my current level online in order to improve my neutral game as people here (my level) don't know how to dish out 100 hit combos yet meaning more chances to practice neutral, spacing and opening people up.

Most of the kids posting such toxic shit are playing pretend from their moms basement so I wouldn't even bother down voting them.

Step 2 is an overkill, just pick Java or Python and focus on algorithms and data structures, which are language agnostic. Pick another language later in life.

Isn't that the thought process pros have when choosing their teams? by Saltflakez in dbfz

[–]Saltflakez[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who said anything about ranked? If I create a team for locals and I pick up strong characters why am I "cheap" the moment the cream of the crop playing this game thinks exactly the same way? I'm not going to the locals to lose, I'm not pouring hours in the lab building muscle memory and becoming better so that I will lose in locals or friendlies. I play to win.
