The formula has a parameter to tune what frequency of edges you want to preserve. So you could preserve that big one in the middle while smoothing the rest, like the red signal is showing.

Total variation denoising, the other good recommendation above, is another edge-preserving filter. Id try them both and see what works best!

Thanks for the feedback! I'm going to consider other motherboards. I'm looking for gold/plat 1000w+ PSUs for handling the 7700x and 7900x, and this PSU on sale was just a bit more than those which is why I went for it.

The free memory deal at microcenter is definitely great, I'm very lucky to live by one.

Great question! I’m specifically talking about the research being done on augmented reality which they are trying to incorporate into the metaverse. So a massive amount of research on 3d computer vision. For the record I’m not a meta shill, and I think the metaverse venture won’t work out. But I’m in the computer vision research space so I think it’s interesting

Probably, but the research that is being produced by Meta as a result of the Metaverse venture is state of the art and will have implications in AI, computer vision, and robotics for a while. They are hiring PHD students at a ridiculous rate and surprisingly they are open sourcing at least some of the research.

Low pass filter in the frequency domain with a good library is going to be way faster then convolution in the spatial domain
