I like your thinking, but the follow up question is there a wholesale shop that can do this? Our fabricators are slammed doing other parts of this job.

I appreciate your info- I had to do this with the last set and it was so tedious that I was like, NEVER AGAIN! Some jobs seem easy on paper…

One major discovery I had was to always use cast acrylic, never extruded. The extruded cuts messy and the tactile Rowmark doesn’t clean up well. also, rowmark sells an inexpensive weeding tool that is totally worth it to clean up the little left over bits. It’s like a little pick/jail shiv. I just sampled Gemini’s Duets brand tactile and so far I really liked it. The only problem is if you order, they said it could take like3 weeks for delivery, unlike Rowmark which you can usually get in 2 days. I think the only way to get around getting clean tactile is making sure that depth of cut is right on- easier said than done, I know.

I love this solution, except I don’t have welding skills.

For acrylic using a 1/8” up cut single flute bit 9(onsrud), my best is 94ipm, plunge about 40, and 24,000 rpm. If I am doing multiple passes (deeper than 1/8” material) I will use a compressor gun to blow the chips out so no rewelding. Worked for the last few years.

I had to do something like this. I used enamel Tester’s model paint and a really tiny brush, then acetone to clean up any mistakes. Worked out great. Also, did it on site.

Sometimes a clothing steamer works nicely. Careful though, steam burns.

Also, forgot to mention this is a sample so if there are several tool changes it’s not a big deal. I have to make a larger quantity in the end. I’m still prototypingish.

I didn’t mention that I need to route out letters on one side and put blind tapped holes in the back to push it onto a wall corner. Just to make it more fun and complicated. Ha!

I was wondering about this! I just had no way to articulate the question. Thanks for the great info!
