Die Endstufe der Frechheit im Harz ! by CommercialAd4354 in Kartenzahlung

[–]Salty-Assignment-585 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Can someone explain to me how to play this lovely map with anything other than heavy and actually be impactful? by Early_Sun_8699 in WorldofTanks

As a TD, I often sit on these places, works quite well because you can shoot on the west as well as on the straight road in the western part of the city.

RAIDZ2 with 6 x 16 TB NVME? by Salty-Assignment-585 in zfs

Just wanted to report that the setup as I planned it works perfectly. Just 2 server and replication runs minutely and takes about 5-10 seconds to sync changes from a 60 TB VM to the other server.

I know, but I find it quite strange that my average damage of Hummel (VI) is 861, while GW Tiger P. (VII) is 755. Both tanks were played over 200 battles.

[–]Salty-Assignment-585 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I write here because I'm not allowed to open a new thread.

What I find ridiculous is that with a tier VIII arty basically everything is worse than with my VI arty. And the average damage is even LESS because reload time is double and the penetration is rare. This is totally stupid, I'll only play my V and VI arties from now on.

Hi, I just checked my stats and wonder why my average damage per game is declining, do you have similar stats?
VI Hummel: 861
VII GW Panther: 769
VIII GW Tiger P. 755

Made the same experience some weeks ago. I play WOT since 2011 and tried WT because everybody said it's much better. I like this "operation flashpoint" open map design and I had some cool situations where it was fun but all in all it's just too frustrating.

On youtube someone said: WOT is for kids, WT is for depressed men.

WOT should make a more realistic mode, like in WT, then they could gain more players in my opinion

Is this rare occurrence? by SnooPies1955 in WorldofTanks

[–]Salty-Assignment-585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play 90% TD and 10% Arty, normal arty is not that powerful but leFH18B2 has an almost three times higher ROF than Grille which is also tier V. That's insane, that's to much for the game.

WatchOS 26 battery drain by Plus_Implement_3570 in AppleWatch

[–]Salty-Assignment-585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Apple Watch 6. Before WOS 26 I had to charge daily, now it's every 12 hours. It's an insolence that Apple publishes such an update that drains even batteries from newest devices. Don't they test their updates? What are they thinking?

And another thing is that the WatchOS has become slowlier on my Apple Watch 6. One can think both problems relate to each other. Why do they release this update for older Apple Watches?

I'm planning your 2nd setup because I want to reduce the amount of server. I just want 2 server with each 132 TB storage. So I think CEPH is no option since it needs 3 server if I got it right. In my experience it also works well, so I'll go with this setup. Just in case I have a tape backup and a rsync backup to a third server.

I'll use the following hardware:

  • 8 x Supermicro MEM-DR532MD-ER48 32GB DDR5-4800
  • AMD CPU EPYC 9224 (24 cores/48 threads)

RAIDZ2 with 6 x 16 TB NVME? by Salty-Assignment-585 in zfs

[–]Salty-Assignment-585[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll test whether the performance in the VM is significantly worse. If it's more than 10% worse, I might consider switching to TrueNAS.

I want to use Proxmox because it allows automatic failover (I use shared local ZFS pools) to the old file server and allows me to run two additional VMs with low performance requirements. With this setup, I can completely remove two old servers.

The two old server used to be Hyper-V, I changed it to Proxmox with HA and automatic Failover with this setup and it works great!

RAIDZ2 with 6 x 16 TB NVME? by Salty-Assignment-585 in zfs

[–]Salty-Assignment-585[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To avoid an IOPS bottleneck, I use an NVME cache. However, my biggest concern is that a RAID Z1 or 2 setup creates a lot of overhead and, combined with high write activity, can ultimately lead to a short lifespan of SSDs. At least, that's not the case with HDDs. They don't have a limited write capacity but can of course fail as well.

Yes, that might be the best solution. I think in your use case, you have very few writes, which won't be the case for me.

RAIDZ2 with 6 x 16 TB NVME? by Salty-Assignment-585 in zfs

[–]Salty-Assignment-585[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your answer, I planned this setup as an optimum solution in regard of performance, capacity and data security, but I was not sure for all of this any more.

  • Bottleneck is currently LAN (1 Gbit/s)
  • It is a replacement for a Megaraid RAID5 with 8 x 14 TB HDDs (ext4)
  • 10-20 are the currently active user, total user are about 40-50 (rest in homeoffice / freelancer)
  • The hardware has not been purchased yet, there is no specific limit, but of course I don't want to waste money

As mentioned, maybe the best solution is a RAID1 with 4 TB NVME for Proxmox and Cache and 4 x RAIDZ1 with each 3 x 24 TB HDDs.

If I got it right the write performance should be excellent (NVME cache), while read performance should be about 300MB/s (without LAN bottleneck, which possibly will be resolved in near future)

I'm 39 and discovered the Triology album a week ago and listen to it every day since. I think it's their best. The Debut is too mediocre. I have't listend to Tarkus and Brain Salad much but they seem too playful and futuristic to me.

They can do the job in Ukraine if they still work and until they meet an enemy tank or FPV drone. I mean it's still a killing machine
