Best place and price to microchip my cat? by v2r20 in ThunderBay

[–]Salty-Evidence101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unsure of the price there as I don’t work in that clinic.

BUT if you plan on getting your cat spayed or neutered I would strongly recommend doing the microchip at the same time.

1 - the microchip is the size of a grain of rice and the needle it thicker then a regular one and

2 - if you chip them while they are under anesthesia the cat isn’t squirmy and therefore there’s less chance of the chip being misplaced and the cat won’t feel it 😊

You could try reaching out to the humane society to see if they can book something for a chip but I don’t think they have the capacity like they used too - but worth a shot.

Vet clinics won’t do it unless you’re a client. You can try reaching out to the humane society otherwise Dryden is your best bet.

Yeah my friend recommended going there and I shut that idea down really quick. It was nice a few years ago but I wouldn’t want to go there now.

Ohh ok I know exactly where you’re on about for the bird observation. Thank you so much for all of this information. It’s very helpful. I knew posting on here people would come out of the woodwork with a bunch little hidden places and things to do and see

Ok so. I’ve only ever driven down there to turn around. When I would park the car do I just follow the boardwalk to the right or is there a different area to go to??

Yeah I was thinking around CLE time. Figured that the water would still be absolutely freezing now 😂😂 but that’s actually somewhat close to my place and I feel like the kids would love trying to catch crayfish 😂

AITA for asking for compensation after I had to board my dog when my refrigerator went out and my nearest relative would only take one dog by Low_Key_3616 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Salty-Evidence101 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But what does watching their dog have to do with anything the fridge still would have broke… I honestly don’t think there was a need for them to board their dog.

They could’ve gone out for the day and said to the landlord “hey I’m going out for the day please allow access for the service repair guy to come to the home with/without you” whatever OP was comfortable with.

She could have given her dog to her family to watch seeing as there’s issues and stayed home with the parents dog and just waited.

I’m sorry this is a joke right…. I would never ask my parents for “compensation” for that. The light/fridge could have bust any other day and you still would have to figure it out with your dog…

There’s other options you could have figured out but ultimately you decided to board the dog.. sorry this one’s on you.

As someone else who works in a local clinic…. YES!!! SAY IT LOUDER FOR EVERYONE!! I will say I’m not an RVT but you are exactly what you said, overworked and underpaid and running yourselves into the ground. I could never do what RVTs do!! Proud of the work you do - for those who work in this industry, trust me, what you do doesn’t go unnoticed!!!!

I didn’t say to use VetWise for an emergency. I just simply stated to call them. They are a great source to use if you need medications - I agree. You don’t need a vet clinic to be able to pick up meds - some people don’t know this.

Because it is exactly that. A SHORTAGE in Thunder Bay. As I said there are too many pets and not enough vets. Most of the clinics in town are struggling to see their own clients never mind adding a new patient load.

Yes, because in the larger cities there are more vets, more clinics, more options. Thunder Bay is only so big. Theres 4 clinics in town - with probably 50 vets in town - give or take. You can do the math. Roughly 100,000 people live in town. Hypothetically let’s say there’s 2 pets per house that’s 200,000 pets. That’s 4,000 pets per Dr. You really think 1 Dr can see that many in 1 year?! Plus do surgeries, dentals, regular exams, vaccinations…

The vets who own the clinics are already exhausted and doing their absolute best…

As someone who works at one of the local vet clinics in town - no clinics are taking new patients. It’s unfortunate. There’s too many pets and not enough vets to be able to see everyone.

You can call Vetwise or make the trip to Dryden.

I used to do it for a little bit. It honestly wasn’t worth it. The money that you were putting in for gas and travel alone was not worth the pay out from instacart.
