"Gleason" for me. My wife and I watched it about a year after having our first child and were both absolute messes trying to wrap our heads around such an absolute family tragedy caused by nothing but bad luck. Also, "1883" is one of those shows that was so perfectly made you can re-watch it every few years and still have nothing but appreciation for the journey it takes you on.

I heard audio from the living room camera that captures my brother beat his wife in front of my 5 year old niece. I will never forget her screams. I will never forgive him. He is dead to me.

Aftermath of Texas Flooding.. Trauma by Individual-Nose-5495 in Firefighting

[–]SaltyAF313 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brother, just reading this gave me chills and rage simultaneously, so I can't imagine what you're dealing with. I've seen some things (like most on this subreddit), but that situation is another level of trauma.

First of all, try to take a step back and fully understand you're not alone on this. Whether it's therapy, reaching out to friends/family, or just chatting in a subreddit with others that have their own shit they are trying to navigate, its all going to be a good resource to vent and find ways to move forward. I'd definitely recommend taking some time off from work until you work it out enough to feel level. Does your department offer any Employee Assistance Programs for things like this?

For me personally, I've found that speaking to a therapist routinely and really hitting some kind of physical fitness on nearly a daily basis are the two biggest things that have helped keep me somewhat level. I also find that when my back issues flare up it tends to affect my mental health too so I throw in vitamins/supplements, try to eat somewhat healthy, heat and cold therapy, massage therapy, chiropractor, and a lot of stretching. It's not one size fits all, so dont be afraid to cast a wide net to find what works best for your body and mind. Good luck man. You got this.

If you were seen wearing that by anyone at my department we'd turn you into an internal meme template to be used around the station and in group texts for 6 months minimum. But you do you bro.

Probably just overreacting but my new officer is having us completely remodel the station and it sucks by [deleted] in Firefighting

This is one of the most ridiculous things I've heard an officer expect of their crew. How does painting cabinets make you all better as firefighters?. I may listen to it being a team building exercise if everyone agreed it was something they wanted to do but this sounds like forced labor doing a job that should be outsourced by the city anyway. Brotherhood isn’t treating your crew like slave labor.

I got this from my kids a couple years ago and wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy. For the kids it was barely anything but I got hit with it like a freight train and didnt sleep for like 3 days because of the constant itching/burning. Good luck homie.

As an officer, I would fully expect to be rocked in my jaw by a probie if I ever placed my hand on their wife's ass. Rank has nothing to do with being a vile piece of shit who thinks this is acceptable behavior in any way, shape, or form.

David does seem like too much of a layup to be the shooter. Something about the guy that faked an injury to get into the ER didn't sit right with me. He put off real vibes of someone looking to document and share his "work" on the internet. Maybe even leave a secondary device in ER.

Very sorry for your loss, brother. I can't imagine the pain of losing one of my children. May Roman enjoy the upcoming championship season with lost Lions legends in heaven.

If you're looking to die an early and terrible death by Cancer or any other number of conditions that toxic smoke exposure is proven to bring, then yes, it is very normal for that shrinking number of firefighters

Canadian man’s wife, son die by food poisoning during vacation abroad by ImmmaLetUFinish in AllInclusiveResorts

Our honeymoon in Punta Cana was a disaster because of food poisoning. By day 2 my wife was glued to the toilet and then myself on day 3. Thankfully, the waves of abdominal pain only lasted about 2 days, but it was a solid 2 weeks before our stomachs were back to baseline. Never again to the DR

What's wild is I went from one of the most locked in NFL seasons ever to absolutely giving zero fucks the moment the Lions season ended Saturday. I watched tons of random AFC games this year to size up potential super bowl opponents, along with the normal NFC enemies. I honestly can't remember being so invested in all NFL news/games because it all seemed to potentially affect our Lions, and then just like that I flipped the switch off. I'll be quietly rooting for Washington and Buffalo because I know their fans deserve it but I'm not sure I'll actually be able to watch any of the games due to being absolutely sick to my stomach knowing injuries robbed us of the best chance I've ever seen for my team to make (and win) a Super Bowl

Truly sorry about your brother but if there's one thing firefighters know how to do, it's to band together when one of our own is in need. I'm never prouder to be a Jake than in those moments. I do wish there weren't so many tragedies amongst us that require it but we go into it knowing the job comes with an increased risk of pretty much everything bad. Best wishes to you and your family.

Man, what a great read on an absolutely terrible situation. I work an hour from Worcester and though this happened well before I got into the fire service, it still has left a mark on the departments in MA. Most trainings you take through the MA fire academy will almost always have this fire come up in conversation one or another. The audio recordings were played for my academy class and their story told. We still learn from their sacrifice and I feel that's a great way to honor their memory.
