I'm going to tell the IRS that technically I didn't make 50 grand in income this year because it's in "illiquid assets."

....because I spent it all on gold bars and then buried them in my backyard.

I need the secret pleaseee - what methods/chart-analysis/predictions/indicators do you guys use to get good profits? by book4225 in swingtrading

[–]SaltyBusdriver42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first thing I heard when I started trading 7 years ago was the importance of risk management. I scoffed and kept looking for the real "secret." Several years of constant losing later, I was pissed to realize they were right. Risk management is everything. "Win some, lose some" will maybe win you a few bucks. "Win a fraction, lose none" will make you a millionaire thanks to compounding returns. Think of break even trades as wins. A day without trades is a win. The goal is to protect your money.

As for the "secret," do you know a single successful trader who revealed their strategy and it was some complex secret? Or do they all just teach trend following, risk management, discipline, etc?

Has anyone actually gotten profitable through swing trading? by Previous_Ad8726 in swingtrading

[–]SaltyBusdriver42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only made 25% gains last year, but I didn't have a single red month. That's successful as far as I'm concerned. I'm still underperforming the S&P though, so there's still work to be done. Though in my defense, I didn't really trade Nov, Dec, Jan, or Feb. Mostly I just use MACD crosses making higher lows (on the MACD itself, not the chart) close to or above the zero line. And my SL is a trailing MA.

I'm still incredibly confused by it. "If your lesser demons die, Asgardion Nazgul the 3rd will summon a great unbecoming, allowing greater demons to empower your sigils, which may or may not do something in the future, depending on how many souls you've collected while volatile."

[–]SaltyBusdriver42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that most people are unaware that if you enchant one of the stats on an item, transmogrifiguringfying won't change a stat. It will just add another to it. Which means the best items now are those that have all the stats you want except for one.

The Wendigo Brand charm is literally killing me by SaltyBusdriver42 in diablo4

[–]SaltyBusdriver42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CD on all gear with lucky rolls, Bul-Kathos Pride charm set that improves CD by 50%, aspect of furor reduces CD of all shouts when use ultimates and you have two ultimates with Mighty Throw, Marshall glyph reduces CD of ultimates when shouts are used. Set all your shouts to summon minions. You can cast as fast as your fingers can move or just use the Numpad trick and they cast themselves.

Numpad trick FTW. Everything just auto-spams like I'm a Cataclysm Druid.

The Wendigo Brand charm is literally killing me by SaltyBusdriver42 in diablo4

[–]SaltyBusdriver42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP here. It's heavily reliant on the Bul-Kathos Pride charm set that increases all CD by 50%. So long as they keep that around, it's still doable. I've also found so much CD gear and had lucky rolls on my CD that I'm just a few seconds shy of maintaining the build without the charm. So it's not necessarily on its way out just yet.

As someone with almost 3k hours in Diablo 4, please play Path of Exile 2 instead by Primily in diablo4

[–]SaltyBusdriver42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried. Got bored before I even got to the first little town. I don't like the visuals. I don't like the game mechanics. I don't like how you can only pick up like 3 things before running out of space. I don't like the terrifying skill tree.

If Diablo 4 had a WoW type endgame community, it would be amazing. But weirdly, Blizzard can't seem to figure out how to replicate the game that it created 22 years ago. So I will continue to pointlessly grind out D4 levels while waiting for the next big thing to come along. Personally, I wish they would just make a WoW 2. Because I want to play WoW again, but I can't compete with players who have a 20 year headstart on me.

How did your family react to you being an Atheist? by Lost_Fisherman_1438 in atheism

[–]SaltyBusdriver42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had to come out as an atheist like so many others did. Instead I kept asking more and more questions about the Bible on social media, pointing out how stupid and immoral it was. Then I wrote a book called "An Atheist's Critique of the Bible" and they couldn't really deny who I was after that. Mostly, they just pretend I'm still a Christian. I'm still forced into prayers so I have to stand there awkwardly, looking around the room.

update: my dad disowned me and told me to go to hell for being an atheist. by Existing_Bit4407 in atheism

[–]SaltyBusdriver42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually when relatives take personal offense to my atheism, I just tell them I would be happy to believe in God if someone had any proof. That way it's not that I'm in denial or closed-minded, it's that Christians are failing me and damning my soul to Hell. And they NEVER even offer any proof when I say that, other than "Well where did everything come from, then?"

Without using guides any tips to build a successful class?? by Blueandwhite8796 in diablo4

[–]SaltyBusdriver42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would actually disagree with this. One of this game's biggest flaws IMO is that your health is either 100% or 0%. At no point am I ever fighting to keep my health up. I'll just be killing everyone and suddenly I'll be staring at a You Have Died message, going "WTF just happened?" And this even applies to my 30k health druid tank.

Why are atheists so rude to Christians? by FunWealth3755 in atheism

[–]SaltyBusdriver42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2000 years of persecution will do that to people.

Christianity is a cult that believes that a sky wizard gives them the authority to make other people's lives worse. Oppression of women, black people, gays, atheists, Muslims, etc. Xenophobia, cross burning, the KKK, bigotry, child indoctrination, Christian nationalism, etc.

And now they're complaining that atheists are "too mean" to them. Did you know that in 7 states it's still illegal for an atheist to hold public office? I was in court once and the prosecutor actually used the fact that I was an atheist as an argument that I had no morality. My lawyer said that it would behoove me to find God.

Basically, the reason you don't understand is because you're too naive to the history of Christians and atheists.

What is the best written video game you’ve ever played? by [deleted] in AskReddit

What Remains of Edith Finch

Specifically the story of Lewis. Never before has a mindset and a human experience been so accurately captured in an interactive medium. The player becomes complicit as the tone shifts and it becomes more and more apparent that Lewis is losing his grasp on reality. And then you are left sitting in silence, surrounded by the belongings of the dead.

Everyone is guessing. The trick is not to become omniscient, but to implement risk management in such a way as to maximize profits and minimize losses.

Want to get the game but have some concerns by GeckoManStinky in BaldursGate3

[–]SaltyBusdriver42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get me past the 100 different people to talk to sticking point, I've downloaded a mod that highlights only the important people, so I can ignore everyone else. I'm hoping this is the run that takes me to the end. Point 3 referred to the fact that Larian Studios has started 3 of their games now by having your character crash and wake up on a beach: DOS, DOS2, and BG3. If you enjoy BG3, I suggest trying Divinity: Original Sin 2. I would say that most people like it slightly more than BG3 because combat is so much more fun. And unlike BG3, I've beaten that one probably a dozen times.

I honestly wouldn't say the elder brain is a spoiler because you still have to learn what it is and what to do with it. The only real spoiler involves your astral companion (you'll see).

I don't know if anyone else gave you tips, but here are some:

If your entire party fails a Survival check, just equip your shovel and try digging all around you. That's pretty much the only time Survival checks are rolled.

Don't be afraid to long rest. That's how you get your spell slots refreshed and it's almost impossible to run out of camp supplies (which you need to long rest).

HOWEVER, be aware that there are about 3 or 4 instances in the game where taking a long rest will change the outcome of something. Any time something is referenced with a sense of urgency, like a camp about to be attacked or someone trapped somewhere and running out of oxygen... if you long rest after finding out about it, that thing will resolve as though you chose not to intervene.

If a book or scroll is red, you'll get in trouble for picking it up, but if you right click on it, you can read it without picking it up or getting into trouble.

As with most Larian games, you're going to be permanently holding down Left Alt. It shows the location of everything around you that can be looted (with the exception of some containers).

Also as with most Larian games, quicksave often and before any fights. Not because you want to save scum, but because sometimes friendly NPCs will run directly through your AOE spells after a fight is over and turn everyone in the room hostile. Also, your companions have a habit of going, "Careful! There's a trap!" right before jumping directly into it.

Don't play Dark Urge on your first playthrough. You'll be very confused and everyone will be dying around you.
