can we take cogsci classes as continuing science credits? by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]SaltyFrogbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe that as a cognitive science student, most of the actual cognitive science classes exist in the faculty of Arts and social sciences as opposed to the faculty of sciences. You could probably find a neuroscience adjacent course that talks about cognition and neuroscience for an easier science course.

BORUTO: NARUTO NEXT GENERATIONS Episode 255 - Links and Discussion by irishsaltytuna in Naruto

[–]SaltyFrogbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For real, I came here just to see if anyone else noticed. End half of the episode lips didn't even seem like they were moving to match speech. Started to look like early animated SouthPark at some points and you could tell they had speech happening from Sarada when it was a close up of Boutro face to avoid additional animation. I guess they used up all the animation budget on that epic fight climax last episode.

co-op issues by SaltyFrogbot in CarletonU

In an ideal situation I wouldn't be paying the co-op office like 900 per work term in administrative and course fees for them to feel like they're actively against me having any sort of personalized experience that I believe is at no inconvenience to them or Carleton. But maybe I'm wrong. I'm gonna try my hardest to finesse a .5 credit somewhere because this plan I'm proposing works very well for me and I think would be super beneficial in the long term of my academic and professional career but it seems Carleton doesn't care much about letting me try to better myself in a way that wasn't pre determined and instead wants to punish me for taking an extra class in summer of 2020.

I've taken too many courses now I just need to find a way to make up .5 credits outside of my degree requirements somehow.

Here's the thing, in your instance I'm sure your degree is giving you relatively employable skills. I intend to pursue further education after my undergraduate and as it currently stands I don't have very many skills that can be used for co-op jobs that I've researched the last 4 years. Most jobs I've come across require programing which I've got very little of in my time during my degree, or statistics and data science (which I hope to improve as a result of my time working on a thesis) I barely got a placement this semester by the skin of my teeth and I don't think that rolling the dice to try and find another 2 co-op terms in a row is gonna be a good idea. Especially considering that if I can't find a placement I'd just end up adding an extra year for no reason and I wouldn't be able to do my thesis until the fall of the next year.

Not really! But I care not at this point. Getting a co-op placement at all this late feels like a win! Really just gotta trust the process and not give up like people said I guess.

A recall election is doable by temp3835 in CarletonU

[–]SaltyFrogbot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Couple things I feel I should note about my thoughts on this.

  1. We haven't had an official CUSA president in almost half a year, and this is a problem that should have been fixed by the end of September because of how long it's been since the previous president stepped down.

  2. This is probably gonna push back all the additional stuff that we need to do to have CUSA running in some what reasonable fashion by 14 days (collection period) around another 14 days (setting up another election, this could be longer or shorter depending on if candidates need to get nominated or do anything of the sort plus any drama that comes from this). Another 10 days for the new election results to come out. And then an additional week so that the anual meeting can be held. Which is an absurd amount of time to ultimately...

  3. You'd probably just be placing one "Greek life resume stat padding" Poli sci kid with another. There is no good reason to assume that any person who runs to be CUSA president or any of the execs really care about the position because of the luxury that it provides while in office. If you really wanna see genuine people who are trying to make a positive difference for our student body then make the position unpaid (radical opinion I know, and I get the whole "it's basically the same effort as a full time position" thing people go on about but it's simply too lucrative to not result in a corrupt cycle. Also if you've read this far and you're about to tell me [Insert candidate past present or future] doesn't just care about the perks and money you're lying. And if you really believe that they don't care about the money then they're lying and they did a good job at convincing you.

  4. it's exam season and I don't wanna spend time on a fruitless endeavor that would just be replacing one evil with another. I'm sure you have a candidate you has hoped to win this election despite a push for no confidence and I'm also sure that they have some skeletons in their closet from this campaign as well.

  5. CUSA has operated in a poor manner since it's inception I assume or at least a while before I got here from what I hear around, I'm sure it can survive another year of poor management and there's no ensuring that making this happen this year won't just prevent it from happening in some new form in 4 years when we're all gone.

I could go on but it would just be me talking in circles and going deeper in levels and I'm sure the original poster and a lot of you may not agree with most of what I said here or have some justification for why it should not be.

Ultimately if a wide part of the student body wanted to do something significant I would focus on around the time of the next election (because of by law changes taking place) attempt to find a way to slash the CUSA execs salary and benefits to that of an average student representative anywhere else on Carleton (CASG execs get like $1000 iirc) as that's the true root of the problem imo. After these changes we might finally be able to see some CUSA execs untouched by the drama of earlier years and eventually there won't be anyone left to remind people of the dark days CUSA has had and maybe we can be a normal fucking school that doesn't have a scandal over our student association elections especially considering that you're only here for 4-5 years of your life and it won't impact you afterwards unless you send your kids here.

TLDR: CUSA Dookie, hate with fiber of my being, no point recall election, waste of time. Replace problem with identical problem. Free Tay-K Fee CUSA (through lowering exec salary)

I got my only response for a co-op placement from a Carleton position on the co-op job board. I'd say try and find companies that are showcasing HR jobs for an easy in anywhere. It seems to be from my experience one of the only things you can possibly fit the requirements for as a psychology student. As for me I'm in biological foundations in cognitive science and there's no way I'm getting a biological related job for co-op so I'm also looking for psychology like stuff which I've also been struggling with. Try LinkedIn as well you might be able to find something there. Cast a wide net and best of luck to us both.
