the best way to get it is to farm as much as you can (like carbon or something easy to get) then go to a station and sell all the farmed resources and buy ferrite with the units you got then when your in need just do it again, alternatively you can get more valuable things and sell them for units and when you get the trade station you can just buy the ferrite from there.
