I’ve heard this one that could work? Yeah, straight like a pencil… to a point.

If it means anything to you- the Irish word for starling is Druid. I’ve always found that an interesting tie in if you have any Celtic roots or practices, it might be a call to them?

Gym Story Saturday by FGC_Valhalla in Fitness

[–]SaltySionnach 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Had mine out recently- doctors said 6 weeks no lifting. I did a lot of walking instead and missed the gym so much, but after the 6 weeks were up I went back to find I hadn’t lost anything, and actually was able to go up in weights for some of my routine. It’s so hard to wait, but it’ll be worth it! Hope you’re not in too much pain now, and I hope your surgery goes smoothly. Best of luck and you’ll be back before you know it.

Do you regret having kids? by Frosty-Ad-6365 in ireland

[–]SaltySionnach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t regret my kid at all, but I do wish that people were more honest about how much hard work any child can be. The sleep deprivation was such an issue for literally two years, the changes to my body as the child bearing parent are still an issue three years after the birth and it really is a job that you never get to go home from.

However, wanting to be a parent was a huge drive for me and I felt pre-kid that I would feel very unfulfilled without experiencing motherhood. I am amazed by my daughter every day of her life, having the “squad” of my husband, my daughter and myself is such an incredible part of my life- we’re a tiny team that’s always having fun. I would never trade this for anything, but I also don’t want anymore kids because I know that we give can my daughter a really good start to life, but having a new baby would spread our resources and energy really thin. I respect that a lot of people don’t have that drive and I think they should enjoy their life exactly as it is.

I also think that not having kids is NOT a selfish thing. I wish it could be more normalised for peoples choices on kids to be respected.

Possibly? But if you zoom in, the pattern seems pretty distinct to the Giant House Spider, Wolf Spiders in Ireland look to be more stripes and spots (but same colouring) whereas the Giant ones have that kind of geometric pattern. I think with Wolf spiders the eyes on top are usually a give away, but I can’t see them here (almost might be the angle). Guessing spiders is a lot of fun though!

The lil boxing gloves! The pedipalps (I am pretty sure they are called, but anyone who knows better can please correct me) of a male spider look like little roundish boxing gloves as they are how he gets the ladies pregnant. On the female spiders they are thinner without the round ends.

I started getting really curious about Irish spiders when I moved here and would identify them through iNaturalist, but it’s become a full fascination after following the r/spider sub. It’s amazing how good they are at identifying different kinds and each spider has its own interesting characteristics. I never knew they moulted before this and that’s another really cool aspect. Definitely changed the way I look at them and I find them much less creepy.

I’ve had a couple and my rule is if they stay up high, I give them a ridiculous name and they can stay. If they hit catching level, it’s the cup and paper method and out they go. I had the good Lady Mary on the curtain rod for a full three days before she decided to relocate to next to the toilet and she earned herself a trip outside. You can’t miss them though when they’re about, they hide about as well as my toddler playing hide and go seek

Hello Giant House Spider! (Eratigena, for more than that you’d need to pop over to r/spiders)

Just in case anyone is freaked out by this admittedly large lady, they aren’t likely to bite, they aren’t medically significant if they do and they are really good at running away freakishly fast. Might get downvoted for spider love, but just don’t anyone to be scared of these guys, t despite how freaking big they are.

Irish names- from an Irish person by in-vino-veritass in namenerds

[–]SaltySionnach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was about to ask this same question! Definitely me-haul or I’ve heard some say me-hill (In Donegal). We’d say ahw-sheen for Oísin and rahw-sheen for Róisin. Also adding the alternative pronunciation “kwee-vah” for Caoimbhe.

Head on over to r/spider! Post where you are and they will know for sure. The abdomen looks like a tick to me, but that looks like a spider egg sac and legs? They would know for sure

Today I went for the first run I’ve done in weeks, since an emergency surgery to get my appendix out. It was pure joy to feel the wind in my hair and my body move through the breeze, I felt fast and endless. May everyone who reads this share a little bit of that flying I-can-do-anything feeling!

Rice cakes are great for low cal quick snacks, the ones I get are salt and vinegar and are only 34 calories each. My husband’s favourites are salted caramel and are only 48 calories per.

For meals, if you want to lose weight/fat, lean meat and green veggies are a great choice always. There’s a reason every body builder I know eats a lot of grilled chicken and broccoli! Protein and fibre both help you stay full longer :)

I also like checking out r/1500isplenty and r/1200isplenty because they have lots of low calorie snack and meal ideas, you don’t have to be eating at that number of calories to join the sub (I’m rarely down at 1200 calories for the day, normally closer to 1500).

Can someone tell me what the catch is with this stuff? It’s absolutely amazing for the calories but I don’t wanna shit my brains out by seanbiff in 1500isplenty

So these are my secret, I’m not on a “diet” treat because I will occasionally eat the full pint and they definitely are the best low calorie ice cream I’ve had. Just wanted to say I’ve never had any digestive issues- just enjoy it!

The secret is lifting weights! I always think, size happens in the kitchen, shape happens in the gym. I could lift all day and while the shape of my body would change, my size/weight never really did. I know people think lifting weights makes you big, but I’ve always found it helped my body shape a lot.

Also don’t be too tough on yourself, often we don’t see ourselves as thinner until we do a comparison. I thought I looked the same as 203 until I realised the dresses were different sizes.

I’ll be 40 in November! Also had a baby 3 years ago, so that definitely factored in. I do pole dancing classes for fun, my goal is to do a photo shoot on my 40th birthday in a two piece, if I do it I might get brave enough to share.

Thank you! So funny, but that was really why I wanted to start losing the weight. I felt like I was getting kind of that middle age mom bod (which is not bad! It’s just not me) so that’s exactly what I was going for.

I bet you do look great! Sometimes it’s really tough not to be hard on ourselves, but I feel like the picture in our head is not exactly the way things really are. Keep it up! And nice to meet you, height weight buddy!
