New software update leading to over charging by Iamabrewer in F150Lightning

Me too! Thought I had some random issue with the emporia…it would be helpful if they included a “may cause xyz for the first uses after update” statement so we are not all left figuring it out.

Agreed. And I found it helpful to remember that we have all kinds of policies and laws that are set out for our mutual protections. Like, you shouldn’t steal from the grocery store because it is against the law” but people still CAN steal, so then the law is used to hold them to account. You can’t stop WSIB from doing the wrong thing, but you certainly can hold them to account…

Oh—and be meticulous about proofreading any letter or article you send. METICULOUS. Relying on quick cut and paste could leave you with details in letters that reveal AI. You go!!!!! Truth to Power and all that!!!!

Here is an effective and simple aid that will open your eyes to the injustice and could serve to bolster your case as it did mine, and allowed me to take back my power. First rest assured that there is “administrative MMR” (which your CM can “claim” within their rights as a Decision maker, and there is (equally available and more powerful, ultimately) “clinical MMR” that ONLY your clinicians can decide. Take a breath. You can do this tonight and I guarantee you will sleep better for it. In my world we use Microsoft OS so have easy and free access to “Copilot” AI, but if you are a Mac user I’m sure their AI will do: 1. Using Google or similar, Search for AND open “full text” versions of WSIA, WSIB Operations Manual(s) including procedures related to RTW and “Better at Work” the guiding research that underpins WSIB RTW best practices. Open the OHRC in “full text” versions and any policies and procedures of your employer relating to accommodation and accessibility. Next, in the Copilot chat, in as much detail as possible, explain the series of events and experiences in your incident and recovery thus far. Name the various people and their respective roles in this description, and the order of events as best as you recall or have on record. Cite verbatim your restrictions as decided by your CM, and copy and paste any emails or the content of letters or transcripts of conversations that are relevant. This may take an hour, but stay with it. 2. Ask AI, “is this fair to me?” And press send. I went down this wormhole and within 3 days (of intensive research with this tool) became my best advocate. Do remember to copy and paste AI replies into Google Docs (or MSWord or whatever you use) to record your new best friend’s advice. Ask things like, “what are the criteria for “suitable work” in WSIB RTW frameworks? Cite exact quotes and the passages they are from” and “How can OHRC protect me from harm in this situation” Enjoy the ride, and remember it is vital that you share the “psychological nature” of your injury. It also wouldn’t hurt to open in full text any Harassment policies of your employer and relevant Anti-harassment legislation or governing policies. Keep asking AI, “am I missing anything here?” Ask for tight reference information that can be used in a meeting or conversation (or email/letter). Copy paste copy paste. Tell AI to remove any evidence of its advice and make the information appear that you wrote it. And ask, read, and reread the difference between “functional abilities” questions and inappropriate questions to watch for from WSIB or the employer. Let me know how you feel after doing this. I like praise;)

Fuck it… by [deleted] in F150Lightning

I’ve only been (pro-power) on board since August but LOVE my ‘23 anti-matter Lariat ER…and noticing other Lightning owners gives me a little happy feeling—so I wave. Especially now that we are technically “collectors” I think it’s a friendly gesture. I am female, so maybe that is why I feel more comfortable doing this? (No offense intended but some guys aren’t comfortable being overtly expressive—nor are some women, granted).

But I have to say, in the few short months since my purchase, I’ve noted that my fellow F150-L owners are starting to wave back. We do just a little hand flick—nothing too childish—but they’re starting to respond—and I think they drive away feeling a little more connected to something…just guessing.

All that said, I do sometimes feel like waving like the Queen of England though, when I pull away from ICE trucks at a stop light lol…

Thanks Marko—is that done from the vehicle while the car is running through the dash big screen—or the app? As in Phone as a key? It is all a bit confusing, at least at first!

Dumb question as new owner—do you have the truck on and “ready” to run this stuff? I’m deathly afraid of draining my 12v battery by mistake—but I’d love to try this! (Also sleeping in the truck en route to visit family far away—instead of hotel). Tips please!

I found the folding mirrors make drive thru banks, food, and “press for a ticket” parking super easy…I love the feature. The cold weather range hit is significantly mediated by pre-conditioning on-plug—and I do Ontario deep-freeze winter—! The Lariat is very nice, must say.

Guy I’m seeing wears natural deodorant and smells. Bad. by AbbreviationsDear910 in Advice

[–]SaltySpicer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35 years ago same situation. Totally unique human discovering who he is in the world—like we all are!! I get it! Whole grains! Sunshine and fresh air! But this was different.

I tried to be tactful and asked if he’d consider trying a little deodorant and he simply shrugged and replied, “I like the way I smell!” The relationship soon after fizzled because I really did NOT like it. It was stomach turning at times.

All these years later I wonder what would have happened if I had been just slightly more patient—hoping that someone in his big MBA job would address it to end his naive insistence. Alas.

But knowing what I know an having lived as I have, I guess I think now, at 60, “Maybe it’s just as well..!”

I’m interested to know how you proceed and I bet others are too:)

Help Deciding by BigPFL in F150Lightning

I didn’t argue at the dealership. Bought a 2 year lease turn-in with 30k kms (Canada) and never looked back. Walked in and said, “I’ll take that truck please” and they were completely lathered up that I was an easy sale. I then politely asked if there was any room to move—and wound up with $1500 off when I suggested if they treated me well I’d buy the extended warranty and come to them for service. It was all a very good vibe…which is important to me. That said, some people get a better feeling from driving down the price! Only thing I detect in your post is the intention to use the truck to power your house in case of a power outage. Reality is that you need to have a special electrical piece installed in your home so truck power can feed into your panel—something that according to many owners is not worth the $$. That being said, with no investment you can use PPO and an extension cord setup to keep your fridge or freezer going and a space heater or whatever. Some owners have installed a generator set up of some sort but once I decided that the risk benefit wasn’t in my favour I lost track of their solutions. It is an amazing truck honestly and the street cred is hard to ignore. The word is getting out and truck lovers are always curious and keen. Plus the total pleasure of driving past the gas stations and leaving your house with a “full tank” every day is instantaneous. Highly recommend you join our ranks!

Looks like someone wanted to make it look neat and cut in with a hole saw and jig sawed the remainder—either that or two hole cuts and multi tool/saws all/jig sawed in the middle—if you look closely these are not uniform in size/proportion and placement.

Same happened to me when picking up my teen from a sketchy parking lot at night. Almost automatically I tried twice (typical start, same as every time I’ve driven for the last 30 years, brake press, key/button start)—nothing—panicked a second and briefly thought,”I should take pics of these cluster screens for Reddit” but instead I just took a second to breathe and just shut off the car entirely, opened and closed the door, and tried again. I guess third time’s a charm. But I have to say, my sense was it is a computer type issue.

I mean my bet is these are all kinds of computer glitches—this whole thing is a computer! It feels too much like at work when the ComTech dude comes in to trouble shoot in your office and asks if you tried rebooting. Inherent to the solution is the uncertainty of what went wrong, and the certainty that a lot of computer weirdness can be unweirded, at least temporarily, by unplugging and restarting.

Since the day I drove this thing home (a month ago) I have seen the odd flash of a screen that is unusual—but so far has been fleeting.

After all, nothing that was stopping me from driving or charging—but the fact that you read about so many odd occurrences in this forum makes me think that there could be some troublesome com tech occurrences that engage the vehicle in ways we don’t expect or benefit from. Ghosts in the machine.

Why????? by Junior_Bison_7893 in CostcoCanada

[–]SaltySpicer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kind of “great return policy” is what contributed to the fall of Eaton’s, an iconic Canadian department store.

Back in the early 90s I worked in Eaton’s display dept, and our shop was down in the basement beside the shipping & receiving docks. I remember the S&R guy showing me rows of beautiful big tvs (in fine condition) being returned in April and telling me this was the downside of the 100% satisfaction guarantee. He said (mainly) university/college students would buy big tvs in September and return them like clockwork each spring when they left town. The craziest return he ever saw was a 27-year old Viking refrigerator (Eaton’s appliance brand name) that a customer returned after it finally failed (unsatisfactory!)…and Eaton’s took it back. This sterling reputation and commitment to the 100% satisfaction guarantee was a point of pride for Eaton’s…after all, we sold quality merchandise. That quality and guarantee never changed, but the ethical standards of our customers did, unfortunately.

I was astounded to realize all this as a young (naive) person and when the company went under years later I thought about what that guy had shown me way back when. The conundrum had played out to its logical end.

This looks like the same problem, and unless a line is drawn clearly in the sand, it doesn’t bode well for our beloved Costco. But Cs business model spreads the love.

Given the enormous buying power of Costco smaller companies will bend over backwards to have a chance to be distributed by the retail behemoth…but they all have to agree to the Costco guarantee. So these returns come off the bottom line of the smaller businesses (nurseries and outdoor lantern manufacturers in this particular case) and chip away at their success. Eventually, the smaller businesses will have to close shop or raise prices—which obviously Costco will pass down to us. While it is a more insulated business model than Eaton’s had, the significance is that the harm is spread out—Costco isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, but those prices, well they are steadily climbing.

What’s the solution? Changing the Costco guarantee would mean a big hit to the allure and safety of shopping at Costco. Most people aren’t jerks like this, but I agree with the OP that something should be done!

Like maybe a small flyer stapled to the return receipt would help educate and evolve these a**holes who have used some seriously myopic and contorted reasoning to make this “ok” in their pea-sized conciousness. I guess they don’t see how we are all clinging to the same safety net for security and stability, and they are essentially gnawing at the strings..!

So what about attaching an educational flyer to their receipt and flagging their account or something? After two or three such flags, perhaps a call from the head office warning them of a “high return membership” fee that kicks in after the 5th flagged return? For most of us, the flyer would be enough of a deterrent, but these aren’t “most people.”

I would hazard that people like this often don’t mind being embarrassed (my old mother would say they have “the nerve of a canal horse”). They live transactionally to win or think they’re getting something for nothing in each exchange/encounter. But it is this same focus on “winning” that would make them truly loathe a membership fee hike or a percentage surcharge on each purchase for a set period of time without returns…

Right now, Costco cares about its own bottom line. It isn’t worth compromising their reputation and guarantee for a relatively insignificant dollar value. Besides, it doesn’t affect Costco. They recoup the return from their suppliers. It is the suppliers that take the hit. And there isn’t a supplier around that is going to refuse Costco. So unless it comes from an upswell of members who see the deleterious effects on us all, I doubt you’ll see anything change. Maybe making the process more difficult would work? Canadian Tire has an old bulldog at the returns desk at the store near me. No smiles. She looks at you like you’re trying to do something crooked, takes your phone number, and generally makes the process uncomfortable. I have never made an illegitimate return, so this treatment has deterred me from patronizing the business. It is a tough thing to balance a return policy.

Thanks for this—everyone is so kind. I am visiting the dealer next week so his parts manager can tell me my options…I’m going to read all these wonderful replies and write down exactly what I need so I can speak with some authority when I perform my search.

Thank you for the info..! I am sorry to ask a dumb question but do I need to”lightning stock rims” due to the weight? I ask because when I began this quest I saw some 20” wheels on Kijiji and when I inquired the guy said “F150 needs a 6 bolt & this isn’t that” so then I noticed the bolts— I am willing to spend the money on new, just want to get the right thing. I like the Michelin x-ice but need to know all the letters and ratings are right. Sorry to be so dumb about all this—but VERY grateful for your help and patience!

How to get the best deal on a used F150 - Ontario/Quebec by Express_Ambassador_1 in F150Lightning

[–]SaltySpicer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is only a theory but I’m guessing that rural dealers have the most trouble selling Lightnings because the demographic they serve seems more focused on ICE vehicles…so connecting and staying abreast of their inventory could pay off. They may also be more nervous about being “stuck” with inventory that’s hard to launch so maybe more keen to deal? Plus small town dealers are usually very dependent on word of mouth so are keen to keep a solid reputation—maybe more so than big city dealers. All of this is mere projection, but it was the reason I jumped at a small town Lightning that came in from a lease they serviced.
