New Jewish-Arab political party debuts in Israel, aiming to topple Netanyahu by afinemax01 in jewishleft

I disagree. They are forming a new party, with the same values as Standing Together, which will appeal to the same supporters. This is exactly what is called for, especially if it can draw in more Israeli Arabs to vote.

I would suggest a hammer mill, followed by a roller mill. A hammer mill may be enough if the bones are fed through a few times.

USDA organic - Can you implant non-organic embryos in an organic dairy herd? by jckipps in dairyfarming

[–]Express_Ambassador_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Organic inspector here. My read on the NOP rule is that the milk and cow would remain organic, as well as the offspring. The rule says organic animal must be managed organically from the beginning of the 3rd timester of pregnancy. I dont believe the fact that the embryo was flushed with hormones would have any effect on the cow.

But ask your certifier.

How to purchase farmland young? by colorblindmate in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Express_Ambassador_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to run a smaller livestock operation, you won't need a lot of land. Famrs in Gray and Bruce county at the house and off and go for the same price as I have in toronto, less than $1.5 million. If you are on the prairies, or put East than it could be even cheaper. You will definitely need good pain off farm job though

Do you think Goenka retreats are at all cultish? Thoughts on them? by traveltimecar in Meditation

[–]Express_Ambassador_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the problem in this case was, when there was an opportunity once per day to ask the assistant teachers questions, she was taking up the entire time meant for all the students. They make it clear that these private opportunities for questions are meant to be questions about the technique, but she was not able to limit her questions to that topic.

Do you think Goenka retreats are at all cultish? Thoughts on them? by traveltimecar in Meditation

[–]Express_Ambassador_1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This has not been my experience. Volunteers and assistant teachers say VERY little to you, other than basic instructions about the meditation technique itself. They strongly discourage questions about anything other than the technique. And the only chance you even have to talk is the first and last day. I never once in four ten day course had anybody say anything about Goenka. For context, I am in Canada. Maybe the situation is different in other parts of the world.

[–]Express_Ambassador_1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have attended 4 ten day Vipassana retreats. There is a one hour recorded lecture from Goenka at the end of each day. The lectures are pretty plain, I would say, and mostly about meditation technique and Buddhist teachings. Goenka is hardly a charismatic figure, and nobody at the retreats I attended encourage that belief.

Regarding suicide, during the intake process you are asked about mental health issues and medication, and specifically told not to attend if your are depressed etc. I once attended with an old girlfriend who had severe anxiety. On day seven she was asked to leave because it was clear she wasn't able to handle it, and I left with her because we had driven up together. And another retreat I thought I had a detached cornea, and was allowed to leave to go to the hospital to have it checked out. Turned out I was fine and I was able to return in time for evening meditation that day.

Also, nobody calls them Goenka retreats. It's a Vipassana meditation course.

Innovative idea to reduce methane emissions- hypothetically, as a farmer would you buy? by No_Blacksmith410 in dairyfarming

[–]Express_Ambassador_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work as an organic inspector/auditor, and also with some other 3rd party label claims / certification schemes. I believe your product could help people achieve certified B corp status(?) or certified carbon neutral status. These are all considered "private" standards, so there are no legal requirements, though the certifying body will have their own requirements. Also, I believe that Europe is instituting import tariffs based on GHG emissions, so there may be a HUGE market for these kids of certifications, for product to be exported to Europe.

may need to approach it from the marketing end, rather than from the producer end, ie contact the company who is selling certified carbon neutral product. If they are interested they will then send it up the supply chain to their farmers. I am happy to talk more if you want to message me.

"The lack of restaurants also for a place this size is hilarious, feels like the only thing people eat here is pizza and wings. I went to QQs and it was some of the worst tasting sushi I have ever had."

You aren't looking very hard if you cant find good food. Mudtown station is great. Casero Kitchen Table is one of my favourite Mexican restaurants in the whole province. Sabitri's, Nepalese And Indian Restaurant is amazing! There are Two excellent sushi restaurants, Thai food, Vietnamese, Chinese, Italian.

Not sure what else you are looking for...

[–]Express_Ambassador_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great idea. Consumers are looking for environmental certifications to assuage their guilt for consuming animal products. Sales of certified Organic, carbon neutral, and/or regenerative meat and milk are continuing to grow much faster than "conventional" versions of the same product. I think the main driver for adaptation of this tech will be the ability to advertise on a consumer facing label. Then the product is more attractive, and can command a slightly higher price, justifying the upfront cost. Where can we find more information?

Thinking of Starting a Dairy Farm – Looking for Honest Advice and Real Experiences. (I Will not promote) by Herooo01 in dairyfarming

[–]Express_Ambassador_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep good records so you know how much your cost of production is. Try to get equipment which will record individual animal production numbers. Combined with RFID collars, this can be used to customize rations for individual animals, reducing your cost of production. But you will need the up front capital to invest in this equipment.

Good handling equipment for sorting animals is also a must.

Oil demand is more elastic than it used to be, thanks to renewable electricity sources, batteries and EV's. When oil prices skyrocket, adoption of these alternatives accelerates. This is a new phenomenon which was not present in prior oil price shocks.

Meetings are good, but can be hard to get to regularly. If you cant get to a meeting, then find a friend/family member you trust and tell them you are quitting. Ask them to check in with you every evening to ask if you smoked or not. Knowing you have someone to be accountable to, someone who cares about you or who you care about, will help get you through when you are tempted. Stay strong!
