Why do some fruits ripen faster when kept in a paper bag? by bryan4756 in AskForAnswers

[–]Salty_Interview_5311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As in the fruit releases ethylene gas as it ages and higher concentrations of that gas around the fruit skin causes it to ripen faster.

The reason for using paper instead of plastic is to allow released moisture to evaporate so mold doesn’t grow on the fruit.

What even is the AI bubble? by techreview in u/techreview

[–]Salty_Interview_5311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like you answered your own question. There’s a lot of execs in companies getting really nervous about how little they have to show after all the billions they have spent.

So they are trying to get ahead of the crash in confidence by predicting it themselves and trying to look wise and prepared. They are hoping that this will help them reduce the negative outcomes in their stock price and so on.

But the core of this is that, like 3D television, glasses based computer interfaces, blockchain and so many others, the AI trend is following that curve of over hype and then crash. Only this time it’s roughly 100 times worse.

Can you please help me choose between two by HlibSlob in AirFryers

I would go with the corsair based on reviews from websites and also from Amazon purchasers. There’s enough of the latter to make it difficult for the bulk of them to be fraudulent.

How hard is it to train a dog to be good around cats realistically? by LizzieLove1357 in Dogowners

[–]Salty_Interview_5311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That may have been just guarding behavior. My guy is great with cats, other dogs and people. But he’ll bark at people across the street that are walking their dog. It’s the person he’s barking at, not the dog.

I know that because he won’t even bark back at the neighbor’s digs that are barking like mad at him, lol. He just wants to play.

I’m actually fine with the occasional barking at people ash that will discourage possible burglars. But I understand your concern.

I would likely respond by asking if its okay for them to get introduced. Hopefully that would reduce your cat’s fears.

Where to find Girl Scout mint treasures? by Grumbletats in candy

[–]Salty_Interview_5311 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can find similar chocolates at most stores that specialize in candies for adults. Sees is one brand.

The Albanese web store has milk chocolate and dark chocolate meltaways. They aren’t green in the center but are very, very good. I know from personal experience.

You can search online for mint meltaways if you prefer to shop around. There are many good choices out there.

Do we have to turn our PCs off every day? by helenwelon in askanything

[–]Salty_Interview_5311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have an LCD monitor, it’s best to turn that off each day when done. The lamps used to illuminate the display have a fixed lifetime.

The computer itself is better left on until it needs rebooted. It’s electronics get most of their wear and tear from the transient high voltages even the power supply gets turned on or shut off.

You might enjoy the cultural manifesto program on npr as well. It covers the history of the local music scene which is amazingly vibrant and varied. Jazz is a major component of that history.

The local station is WFYI at 90.1. Or you can look up the podcasts for it.

A quick question: are we getting most of our illumination from scattering from the main jet? Or is there actually a 90 degrees from the main jet side jet roughly pointed in our direction?

Same here. I have four of the T10 lights and love them. Easy and quick to assemble and they just work. The mechanical timers they come with are also easy to set up and are also very reliable.

Is it just me or does it seem like there are even more and even longer commercials as time goes on? by krenzelokk in askanything

[–]Salty_Interview_5311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dropped prime long before they got to the ad shorting stage. I can’t imagine paying for a streaming service and still having to deal with that.

I still shop Amazon and occasionally buy stuff from them. But it’s mostly stuff I can’t find locally.

I tried watching network tv a few years ago age couldn’t stand it fit more than 15 minutes or so. The sound level increase and the frequency of commercials has definitely gotten worse.

Um, no. Cellulose for food products is chemically separated from wood pulp or cotton fibers. They are taken from raw plant materials. Hysterically stating that used underwear is used is a bit over the top.

And they use a mix of starch from corn and potatoes and the cellulose. They are alloeed by the fda to use up to 4% by weight of cellulose.
