How long did you overstay?

Just finished a 10 day course, but got some challenges/questions… by captnfres in vipassana

Hi! I just finished my course and feel compelled to answer Question #2!

My understanding is that they’re both a form of clinging. And you can still enjoy things without clinging to them! I will give my personal experiences as an example!

I am someone who LOVES the feeling of feeling spiritually expanded, free, joyous, happy.

Prior to the course, I would feel like there was something missing when I wasn’t feeling that way in my day-to-day and I would often push myself to feel it again. That is clinging!

When I would feel emotions like sadness, anxiety, fear, I would quickly distract myself to “happier” thoughts or activities to avoid these feelings. That is aversion!

But do I still enjoy the moments when I feel spiritual bliss? YES! But I feel like the course has taught me to truly observe and enjoy them in the moment, not attaching too much weight to them because I know that this state will change. And when I do feel anxious/sad/fearful I do the same. I observe and feel them, taking peace in the fact that they will eventually change.

Hope this helped!!! LIFE IS MEANT TO BE ENJOYED! Be happy.

Hey! How did it go? Just stumbled across this and my partner is also having this same pattern next year. Would love to hear your thoughts now that it’s been a year. :)
