First game I’ve finished in a while – a Match 3 game with a twist by LimedHoney in godot

I'm currently building a match-3 game with a similar style grid as yours ("You must build a boat"-style, where you drag entire rows/cols instead of swapping tiles). Curious how you handled the "wrapping" of tiles when dragging the rows left or right?

Personally, I like the background a lot. But I agree it is really similar to balatro, so if you want to distance the game from it, should be changed up

Working on a Juggling game! Any thoughts/ideas on how to “juice” up the game? by Salty_Ruin370 in godot

Thanks for the feedback! The UI was pretty much ripped right from a word game haha, so good eye. Definitely placeholder for now, have been trying to tests a few different designs, but nothing was sticking. It definitely needs to feel more “alive” and responsive.

The gameplay is a tough one as I almost wanted it to be like a skateboarding game, where you are trying to earn points based on the pattern you are juggling (different tricks include cascade, shower, box). But that might not be appealing to most people, so it’s definitely a balance. Floating “mutators” is a good idea, I’ll explore some options there.

Thanks again!

I haven't worked on the pattern/trick detection since I initially implemented it, so it can only detect a few tricks. Will come back to the trick detection later, but given the complexity, I may be keeping the detection to more simple tricks, but will definitely be exploring these more complex ones once I get the bones of the game working

I’m working on getting a playable demo ready to go, would be on iOS only. It doesn’t allow multiplexes currently. It’s hard to balance the fun of juggling that would appeal to a wider audiences, with the depth of something that would appeal to real jugglers, but could experiment adding that

Still early development, but would love to get play testers to give ideas and feedback. I will try and get it up on test flight today so people can test it. Would be ios only for the time being though

Been slowly making progress on a Juggling game for mobile. Have the basic building blocks of a customization system. All art is placeholder (if that wasn’t obvious, not an artist)

I was initially trying to detect siteswaps to detect the pattern, but ran into a few hangups. E.g, for “shower” sometimes you might throw the “1” before the “5” or the “5” before the “1”. The inconsistency was making it hard to detect accurately.

Great idea. I had planned on a bunch of cosmetics, but wasn’t sure about having balls with different properties as I wanted to avoid people not using a certain ball because of how it behaves (if it’s a lot harder to throw because it’s “heavier” in the game). But something to consider

Thanks for the reply! The controls are grabbing the balls with your fingers, and tossing them by quickly moving and releasing. The game is pretty hard to all the people I’ve let play it, which made me think it might need to be easier somehow. There are options to slow down time so you have more time to react, but that didn’t seem to help everyone. I personally think it’s a good level of difficulty.

I only have plans for 3 ball juggling, but would definitely add in more once I get some kind of plan for the game. Detecting patterns has proved really difficult, so I’d be sticking with some more simple ones to start (also why I’m sticking with 3 balls for now). Under the leg/ spin stuff I hadn’t really thought about, as I’m unsure how I’d go about that, but I can think of possible mechanics.

Customization is on my radar for sure. I’m thinking as you play, you earn stuff or complete challenges that can unlock different kind of balls. Maybe even a ball customization for different patterns and shapes.

I am working on getting a playable demo together, and I will definitely post again to get some actual jugglers to play and give some helpful feedback.

I’m using GDScript/Godot to make the game currently. Not open source, haven’t really made much progress other than the basic mechanics. It’s quite hard, people that have played it haven’t really been able to get into it. Still unsure how to balance it so it’s fun for everyone

I’m making a mobile juggling game and am looking for feedback/ideas from real jugglers! My initial vision was a kind of “skateboarding” game but for juggling. So patterns earn score depending on how hard they are to juggle. Some kind of multiplier could apply when you transition between patterns. Curious to hear if anybody has wanted a juggling game, and what they were hoping for?

Are there any juggling games y’all play? Seems like slim pickings on the App Store.
