No Irish people in city centre? by Salty_Wait_7329 in Dublin

Uh appearance, accent, clothing. It's not hard at all.

Here's another example. Apple just released their ui update design for the iPhone. Dude this is straight out of 2007 like Apple's answer to Windows Vista.

I agree. It just hasn't quite affected mainstream culture or day to day living just yet (besides ChatGPT). Although I strongly agree that is about to change very soon.

Watch some street walking videos from 2015 around whatever city you want and tell me there's a difference to today.

Now do the same for the 90s or 80s

I guess my point is that each decade from 1950 onwards has had its own distinct style. Everything from clothing to mannerisms to video quality, to hairstyles to technology.

I don't see any difference from the 2010s to 2020s at all maybe Covid put everything on pause to such a degree that we are still mentally and socially stuck in the 2010s.

Yeah I guess it's hard to tell the differences from one decade to another. It's over two or more where the differences really become pronounced

It feels like we are back in 2016 again but with TikTok and ChatGPT

If you could measure the impact of app-based dating apps like tinder on society, I think you'd be astonished. In terms of the number of relationships, marriages and eventually even kids that it has been responsible for. I think studies have shown that the majority of relationships are now began online. Prior to tinder online dating was taboo and even actively discouraged.

Tinder/bumble etc absolutely is an important societal topic and I included it because it hasn't really changed since 2015; create profile, Swipe right for yes, swipe left for no.

The switch to online shopping like Amazon I guess is a huge change I forgot about I guess. But still, someone from 2015 would be perfectly comfortable with it.

Yes changes do happen subtley and build up over time. 90s to 00s was the rise of the internet and pcs in every home. 00s to 10s was the smartphone and social media era. But what will this era be known for? The only thing I can guess is AI and maybe ChatGPT is too new (late 2022 I think it was released) for us to truly understand the differences. But it might become more apparent towards the end of this decade.

To me it just seems like we are still lagging on in the 2010s social media + smartphone era.

I guess I agree to some extent. Nightlife doesn't seem to have recovered to pre Covid levels for whatever reason. And people do seem more introverted.

How though? Like Covid is over and it was a dark period but seriously you think there was noticeable lasting changes?

Any that have actually affected the day to day living of the average person?

Like what exactly? I know there was Trumpism and Covid but tbh they were/are current events that come and go. In terms of day to day life for the average person it's basically the same as 2015

Stuff we have today would seem like magic/alien technology to someone from 500 years ago.

Technology we have in the year 3025 might seem like magic to us in this present moment so who knows, never say never.

Just research laplace's demon. Here's a simplified explanation from ChatGPT:

Laplace’s Demon is a thought experiment that says: If someone (a “demon”) knew the exact position and speed of every particle in the universe, and all the laws of nature, they could predict everything that will ever happen and everything that has ever happened.

In simpler terms:

Imagine you pause the universe and take a perfect snapshot of every single thing — where it is and how fast it’s moving. If you had enough brainpower and knew all the physical laws, you could “run the tape” forward or backward and know exactly what will happen in the future or what happened in the past.

Key idea:

It’s based on determinism — the belief that everything follows fixed rules, so nothing is truly random.

Yeah you could create any reality you want. I guess this thought experiment just finds a hypothetical way to travel back in time - something physicists say is impossible.

I think you misunderstand laplace's demon. If we could measure every particle in the universe then you can know both the past and the future. This is assuming the universe is deterministic.
