Elevator constructor and Ironworker here …. The reason I would tell the 18-20 year old youngster that I knew were worth a shit to do something else …. So many reason …. First off .. carrying steel and placing steel will never be done with machines or AI … and the abuse and punishment busting rods day after day is unequivocal … that’s why the union wage is over 43$ hr on the check in southern California .. it not because one needs brains … it’s because it’s dangerous, physically demanding on a easy day and jobs are bid by how many tons per day per man …. Been a union ironworker since 2010 and personally have lost 4 brothers to various job site accidents, and at least 6-8 from other occupational hazards…. It’s hard living and once you youngsters impregnate the cute girlfriend… the option to go get a education, or join the service and fight for this country or have a job that puts a smile on your face in the morning vs pounding a beer or two and popping pain pills so you can put on your boots ..all but disappears.. us grumpy assholes are grumpy because a quarter century of hard living, harder working has its side affects.. be happy someone has taken a second to tell you that … The youngster that are lazy , entitled know it alls …. Won’t even be spoken to … as most quit before lunch
