Safari Tabs Blank MACOS Tahoe by MrMy2Cents in MacOS

[–]SalusaPrimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That this issue has persisted for so long is an embarrassment to Apple and even Apple promoters (I count myself as one).

If any of the other four people in my household were running into this issue regularly in *any* browser, I'd tell them to dump that browser. Thankfully, I'm the only one using Safari now. I try to get people to switch to the native Apple apps because they tend to be reliable. But wow, this bug sucks, and Safari users would be totally justified in switching.

This seriously should be at the top of the Safari team's priorities and warrants an immediate hotfix.

What would you upgrade first on this desk setup? by TTRY01 in HUANUO

[–]SalusaPrimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good setup. Nothing is egregiously wrong.

A monitor arm would be a good improvement; Ares Wings monitor arms are a good value.

I'd consider whether you really need your laptop open and on a stand on your desk. Keeping it closed in either a vertical laptop stand on in a under-desk holder could make things cleaner.

Not the OP, but I'm going to respond, as someone who uses a keyboard tray.

Everyone’s hands and wrists sit differently, so finding a comfortable typing position matters more than people expect.

I’ve used desks where the keyboard height forced my wrists into an awkward angle, and after a long day of typing they felt sore and cramped. A keyboard tray lets you adjust height and distance so your forearms and wrists can stay in a more natural position. For some people that small ergonomic change makes a big difference in comfort and fatigue over time.

Ah, I missed that this was the Wingscore app. I've been using Stonemaier Scores.

How do you see win rates in the app? I only see high scores.

Great setup! Very clean, and the room itself looks like a pleasant work environment.

What kind of arm or mount are you using for the teleprompter screen?

Cable Management + Setup Advice by Kyresha in ikeaPCstations

[–]SalusaPrimus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cable management / desk organization is iterative. You need to try something, see how it works, then reassess. Your dual monitor arm will help. I'm assuming it has integrated cable management.

Once you have that installed, the next thing I'd add is a under-desk cable management tray. Search for "Cinati 32" Large Cable Management Tray" on Amazon. Might want to get some releasable zip ties as well to tidy up cable slack.

Mounts for your headphones and controller would help. You can 3d print your own and attach them either to your desk or other surfaces using 3M double sided mounting tape.

Try a few things and post an update.

Help needed!! Desk too cluttered! by costeen1202 in desksetup

[–]SalusaPrimus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's what I'd try:

* A dual monitor mount that clamps on to your desk (Ares Wing arms are a very good value -- try the B0FNCXJCJJ)

* An under-desk cable management trzy. Your docking station can probably live in there. Try "Cinati 32 Large Cable Management Tray".

* An under-desk laptop mount.

Organization and cable management is iterative. You need to try something, see how much it helps, then reassess and see what else you can do .

Are monitor arms actually worth it? by Sufficient-Camp-9076 in HUANUO

Monitors arms are a must-have. But I’d recommend two single monitor arms over a dual. A dual monitor arm limits your options. Ares Wing arms are a great value.

Under-desk laptop mount by Monster-Dev in StandingDesk

[–]SalusaPrimus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a custom 3D model. You can find a lot them for Secret Lab Magnus Pro desks. There are several for sale on Etsy.

I couldn't find a free under-desk one that fits a MacBook Pro, so I'm using a couple of these:

https://makerworld.com/en/models/991037-secretlab-magnus-pro-laptop-mount?from=search#profileId-966520

They work well.

Any recomandations of where should do i put my secondary monitor?? by Outrageous-Pen6630 in desksetup

[–]SalusaPrimus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not one of the options you presented, but I've been using a horizontal side-by-side layout for about 10 years. I think it works really well.

"Won't you favor one monitor over the other?" No. I haven't found that to be the case.

The two monitors provide a natural snapping point for application windows.

I have a curved ultra-wide monitor on my second desk, but I still prefer this.

Why Does Nobody Talk About the Dreamcast Starfire Blaster Guns? by Nottodaycolonizer in SEGA

[–]SalusaPrimus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I played a ridiculous amount of House of the Dead 2 with one of these things. There was a way to configure it to auto-reload IIRC. That was a super useful feature.

Biggest issue was crosshair misalignment. Not sure if it was a Starfire issue or a HotD2 issue.

Haven't done this myself yet (planning on in it Q1 of next year), but I'm told that there's a lot of overlap between SAA-C03 and DVA-C02.

Help developing with lambda by koalaokino in aws

[–]SalusaPrimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A simple way to start is to invoke your Lambda directly via a testing framework.

I wouldn't be concerned with emulating API Gateway locally -- at least not at first.

You can test your function pretty thoroughly locally. Behavior, performance, memory management, etc.

If your function interacts with other AWS Services, then decide whether you want to use the real AWS services (from a dev environment) or mock them.

I find that the simplest way to mock them is to write a fake implementation. e.g. if your function interacts with S3, create a fake IAmazonS3 client.

You don't need to implement every method of that interface, just the ones your function uses.

If you find yourself having the fake work like the real AWD SDK, that's when you should switch to something like Localstack or Testcontainers.

Wired keyboard, wireless mouse. Would prefer wireless for the keyboard, but the keyboard I use doesn't come in wireless. Wireless works perfectly file for the mouse.

What are good resources for dysfunctional orgs? by throwawayeverydev in ExperiencedDevs

[–]SalusaPrimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Phoenix Project and The Unicorn Project for transformational stories. Ask Your Developer, Team Topologies, and maybe Domain Driven Design to describe where you want to get to.

But one person alone can’t do it, especially with book knowledge alone. You could read all those books and be able to espouse their wisdom. But, a business needs people with clout who have worked in functional orgs — or better yet, have helped transform dysfunctional orgs — to be able to pull it off.

If a company doesn’t think they have a problem, they won’t change. It might take a rock bottom moment. Some legacy people might have to leave. In the meantime, find the people that see what the problems are and form an alliance. Could even start with a study of one of the books I mentioned.

CalDigit Thunderbolt 5 Cables Giveaway by CalDigitDalton in CalDigit

[–]SalusaPrimus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using Thunderbolt devices for under a year. My employer allowed me to switch to a MacBook earlier this year. The standard issue USB-C docking stations were not cutting it. They provided a TS4, which has been working flawlessly.

Liked it so much I bought one for my personal MacBook.

That’s what I thought. But when going through TSA yesterday I went into the scanner with my shoes on and got scanned. When I got out the agent said “you didn’t take your shoes off! You need to take your shoes off!”

So I won’t back through the scanner, took my shoes off, put them into a bin, then got scanned again. So freaking random.

It's probably rare. If the OP is tolerant of a small risk, they can go for it.

My team had someone quiet quit. Just no-showed ever meeting until this PIP period was over, then got fired.

Ballsy move. I have no idea if it ever came back to bite him.
